DESALINATION AND POTASH
FUELLING SALT’S ABUNDANCE
With the advancement of desalination technology, seawater is increasingly
being converted into fresh water, leaving behind salt as a byproduct. Similarly,
the mining of potash, a critical resource for agriculture, generates significant
quantities of salt. While salt formation is actively managed in construction
materials to avoid damage, its abundance opens up exciting potential for
product design and temporary structures. These processes not only ensure
salt’s availability but also position it as a sustainable and versatile resource
for innovation, reinforcing its role in design and beyond. DRIVING SUSTAINABILITY As industries and societies shift towards eco-friendly practices,
WITH A NATURAL RESOURCE materials that are abundant, natural, and low-impact in design
and application are in high demand. Salt, with its carbon-
neutrality and versatility, aligns perfectly with emerging
global sustainability goals. Its potential for use in sustainable
construction, antibacterial solutions, and renewable energy
makes it a cornerstone material in a greener future.
