Rose Plant Final project
Throughout this semester, I’ve learned so much about different plants (Rosa acicularis)
and I have also learned about what they need to survive so that they
can live a healthy life.I knowhow to take better care of a plant, I
have a better understanding of what type of environment a plant needs
to thrive in, and I even know how to set up the soil so that the plant
will have the right amount of nutrients it needs to grow. For this assignment, I chose to write on
the rose plant, commonly known as Rosa acicularis; I'll discuss the care the plant needs like
nutrients it needs, the type of environment that will help it grow, the pests it can get, and the uses
of the plant.
This Plant is commonly known as the prickly wild rose.
This plant has a pink flower with lots of green vegetation. Some of the other names it has is the prickly
rose, the bristly rose, the wild rose or the Arctic rose because the plant can survive in cold climates. The
stems that the flowers grow on for this rose shrub are very prickly and the plant fruit (rose hip) is larger
compared to a basic home rose bush.
(Thorns) (Plant Fruit) (Young Flower)
The plant needs is partial - full sun to grow. Too much sun is not too bad for the plant but if it
goes over the recommended amount, the plant can die and dry out. If the environment for the
plant is too shady, this also can be a way for it to die. This would be because it doesn't get enough
sun to grow. This plant needs to be grown outdoors because it can grow pretty big
The prickly wild rose is a very pretty plant that can grow very vigorously but to keep it in a
healthy condition the grower must give the plant the right amount of nutrients, the right soil, and
the right amount of irrigation. This is to ensure the plant lives a long healthy life, and it is so the
plant doesn’t die out too quickly. One way of keeping the plant alive is to know what pests the
plant can get and to know the ways to prevent them.
Pests and diseases this plant can have are rose aphids, rose rust, two-spotted mites, cottony
cushion scale, leafcutting bees, root-knot nematode, flea beetle, and crown gall rot.
Height
-The plant can grow up to 1–3 m tall
-The leaves are pinnate
- The leaflets are ovate, with serrate (toothed) margins
Width
-4-6 ft. wide
Blooms
-This plant blooms in the late spring
Lifespan
-Rosa acicularis is a deciduous shrub
Symbolism
The hips that stay on the plant through winter have been shown to be high in vitamins A and C.
Native Americans made tea and salad from the leaves and used the inner bark to smoke tobacco.
Perfume has also been made from this plant.
This native rose species of the northern Great Plains is the provincial flower of Alberta.
Since 1987 Rosa acicularis has been pictured on licence plates in the Canadian province of
Alberta
