Powertrain & Koenigsegg Direct Drive — A New Era of Propulsion
At the heart of the Koenigsegg Regera lies a truly revolutionary hybrid powertrain.
It's not just about blending gasoline and electricity; it's about reimagining how power
is transferred to the road.
Internal Combustion Engine (ICE):
A 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, designed and built entirely in-house.
Delivers around 1,100 horsepower on its own.
Constructed from lightweight aluminum and carbon fiber-reinforced
components.
Utilizes Koenigsegg’s patented freevalve technology in some applications,
which replaces the traditional camshaft system with electronically actuated
valves for ultimate efficiency and control.
Electric Motor System:
Three electric motors: one attached to the crankshaft and one for each rear
wheel.
Combined output from electric motors alone is around 700 horsepower.
Powered by an 800V, 4.5 kWh liquid-cooled battery pack developed with
Rimac.
Offers instant torque, silent acceleration, and regenerative braking.
Koenigsegg Direct Drive (KDD):
This is perhaps the Regera’s most defining innovation. Instead of using a traditional
multi-speed gearbox, the KDD system uses a single-speed, fixed-gear transmission.
At low speeds, the car operates in full electric mode.
As speed builds, the ICE gradually engages, delivering power directly to the
rear wheels.
Eliminates the need for gear changes—no clutches, no gear hunting, just pure
and immediate thrust.
Performance Specs:
0–100 km/h (62 mph): 2.8 seconds
0–200 km/h (124 mph): 6.6 seconds
0–300 km/h (186 mph): 10.9 seconds
0–400 km/h (249 mph): under 20 seconds
Few cars on Earth can claim such staggering figures—and none deliver it in such a
smooth, gearbox-free fashion.
