Theme Of The Minister s Black Veil
Analysis of Symbolism in The Minister s Black Veil
Each individual has to make the choice to either dwell on their sin, or let go of their sins. Some
people can let it go and move on, but some try to hide from their sin. Some even hide from the sins
of others. In his short story The Minister s Black Veil, Nathaniel Hawthorne creates an eerie tale
about the veiled minister of Milford Village. The main character, Mr. Hooper starts wearing a veil
to his sermons. The whole town is skeptical of the meaning of the veil. The minister eventually
becomes isolated from the rest of the world, and then he dies while still wearing the veil. The
meaning of the veil is never revealed throughout the story. Hawthorne portrays the theme of moral ...

The setting of the story plays an important role in the theme because, in this case, the setting has
parallels with the plot.
The conflicts of a story will reveal how the theme is involved in the main characters problems
throughout the story. Hawthorne takes the theme of moral corruption and sin and uses conflicts
to allow it to be seen by the reader. Mr. Hooper has conflicts with the town, Elizabeth, and himself.
The narrator says, Each member of the congregation ... felt as if the preacher had crept upon
them, behind his awful veil, and discovered their hoarded iniquity of deed or thought, ( The
Minister s Black Veil 301). This shows how the minister conflicted the town by making them feel
as if he could see their sins. When talking about Elizabeth, the narrator said, She withdrew her arm
from his grasp, and slowly departed, pausing at the door, to give one long, shuddering gaze, that
seemed almost to penetrate the mystery of the black veil, ( The Minister s Black Veil 305). Mr.
Hooper s conflict with Elizabeth was a very powerful scene. This shows how Mr. Hooper could
be morally corrupt because he just lost his fiance. He is possibly going through a mourning process
and that may interrupt his day to day life. If he becomes depressed about the break up, his
depression will corrupt his thoughts. Mr. Hooper also has conflicts with himself. An expert from

whether he is defeated or wins the war it has no any significance to his people or the place and he

he knows he will die as he is forced to fight although he is not on either side. This means, he joined

This study investigates the effects of high hydrostatic pressure processing (HPP) treatments (200
600 MPa) of eight different lamb cuts on lipid oxidation, fatty acid and free amino acid content. In
general, the eye of loin, flat, heel and tenderloin cuts treated between 400 and 600MPa had higher
oxidation values exceeding 0.5 mg MDA/kg. Saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids content were
lower in HPP treatment of almost all cuts (except rump and heel cuts) at all pressures.
Polyunsaturated fatty acids content was lower in HPP treated inside, knuckle, and tenderloin cuts at
600 MPa compared to control. Nine essential and 8 non essential amino acids were identified in the
lamb cuts. HPP increased the total free amino acids composition significantly (P
Employee Rights Protected From Employer Discrimination
According to Walsh (2013) it is acknowledged that, employee rights protected from employer
discrimination in Section 7 of the NLRA included the right to form or join a union, bargain
collectively, or engage in other concerted activity for mutual aid and protection. Furthermore, the
U.S. Constitution permits Congress whose operations have the capability to vitally affect interstate
commerce. Therefore, since Drake and Keeler s employer meets the criterion for coverage under the
LMRA by engaging in interstate commerce, thus, the particular employee right protected by section
7 of the LMRA is that they have been wrongfully discharged because of their protected, concerted
activities.

As stated by the National Labor Relations Board (n.d.) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essentially, Drake and Keeler both had openly stated that it was way too cold and the air was
quite drafty at their workstations near the open overhead door however, the supervisor refused and
was not willing to close the overhead door because the majority of the other employees wanted to
leave it open. Therefore, Drake and Keeler discussed their problem and acted in a concerted manner
and walked off the job for the remainder of the day to contend the cold temperature at their
workstations. This action fully discussed with their supervisor in hopes some action would have
been taken to remedy the situation in regards to their working conditions and is thereby protected by
Section 7.

Furthermore, Sec. 8. [§ 158.] (a) acknowledges that, It is an unfair labor practice for an employer to
interfere with, restrain, or coerce employees in the exercise of the rights guaranteed in section 7
[section 157]. All the more this section of the LMRA precisely prohibits the discharge,
constructive discharge, suspension, layoff, fail to recall from layoff, demote, discipline, or take
any adverse action against the employee because of their protected concerted activities. Since the
action of Drake and Keeler is a protected concerted activity, it is protected under Section 7 and the
action of the employer is prohibited under Section 8. Section 7 of NLRA assures the employees the
rights and Section 8 makes the

to explore his surroundings, a group of savages attack him. These savages appear to be human,
however they behave like wild animals. Gulliver is rescued by a couple of horses. The horses are

to these humanlike creatures as Yahoos and treat them as wild animals incapable of reasoning.
Gulliver is very surprised how the Houyhnhnms speak to each other, while the Houyhnhnms are
equally surprised at the appearance and behavior of Gulliver. The horses lead Gulliver back to their

Gulliver points out flaws in the justice system. Gulliver fails to point out the necessity of laws in
human society and dwells on abuses of the legal system. Gulliver describes many problems in
humanity. His master gives examples of how the Yahoos of his land acted similar to the humans.
Gulliver shows how immoral humanity is.

The Houyhnhnms are different from humans in several important ways. The horses seem to lack
passions specifically love and compassion. The horses make up for their lack of emotions with
industry and temperance. They try to encourage the cultivation of reason. There are a few
similarities in the order of societies between the horses and Gulliver s people. An example of this is
the general assembly where the horses meet. It is a representative council which takes place every
four years. This council was created to keep balance in the Houyhnhnms society. This council is very
similar to the British parliament which was created for the same purpose, however parliament rarely
has unanimous consent on any matter unlike the Houyhnhnms council. The Houyhnhnms have no
written language. Therefore their knowledge is passed down orally.

The Houyhnhnms are virtuous, united and governed by reason. They have almost no emotions.
They don t express sorrow when one of them dies. After spending a long time with the Houyhnhnms,
Gulliver grows very fond of their culture and lifestyle. He becomes more virtuous and wise during
his visit. Gulliver
The Effects Of Traffic Congestion
Traffic congestion in the United States is becoming increasingly salient to citizens, private
companies, and government actors. Traffic congestion, particularly on major highways and
interstates, increases with economic development and production. First, as the economy develops,
workers income rises. Public transportation is an inferior good in that a person s demand for it
decreases as their income rises. Thus, as workers in a growing economy gain income, they begin to
purchase vehicles, which leads to more drivers on the roads (Road Congestion). A second way in
which economic growth affects traffic congestionis through business and other urban development.
As a city s borders expand with new businesses and residential areas, the amount of people increases
quickly, while new infrastructure to sustain them follows slowly behind in a dragging effect. To
worsen the problem, these new businesses have new employees who travel on the same roads at the
same time of day, which further leads to congestion during peak hours (Winaisathaporn).
It is important to understand that traffic congestions are more than an annoyance to the daily
commuter, but a huge negative externality on society. A negative externality is a cost imposed on a
person due to the productivity or actions of another person. As established, congestion is directly
caused by economic development by the government and private firms. But what does traffic
congestion cost us? An article summarizing results from the
Assistive Technology In Special Education
This article focuses on the many forms of technology in relation to special education. The article
discusses the high and low forms of technology that is available for students with special needs to
help bypass or compensate for their disabilities. The article goes on to survey the current status of
assistive technologyfor the special educationpopulation. In the end, the article uncovers that the use
of assistive technology for the special educationpopulation is promising though uncertain. Assistive
technology has proven to be beneficial for students with learning disabilities, as it would
empower them to work beyond their normal capabilities (Lewis, 1998). An assistive technology
device can be an item, software system, or piece of equipment used to increase, improve, or
maintain the functional capabilities of a student with disabilities. It can help a person with a
disability complete tasks they need to perform on a daily basis. Assistive technology services
serve to directly assist students with disabilities in the selection or use of an assistive technology
device. For some students with disabilities, assistive technology is important because they would
not be able to benefit form their educational program. Assistive technology is a part of the
Individualized Education Plan for each student. The educational team for the student must ask if
there is a device that will improve their functional capabilities. If the educational team discovers
that the child could benefit from a device that fits that description, the school district is required to
provide the service along with training to use the device (Lewis, 1998). The author of this article
is a professor in the Department of Special Education at San Diego University. In addition to his
participation in the Department of Special Education at the University, Rena B. Lewis, PhD is a
member of the faculty of the San Diego State University Claremont Graduate University doctoral
program. She focuses much of her research on the application of technology for individuals with
learning disabilities. Her qualifications alone would make me feel confident in her writing and
findings. The article was published in the Journal of Learning Disabilities in
John Bunyan Research Paper
John Bunyan a man who was and is important to Christianity, but who was he? John Bunyan was
born on 11/30/1628 and died on 8/31/1688. John Bunyan was also the author of The Pilgrim s
Progress and Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners two very important pieces of Christian
Literature for the time. He also preached to the people of England near the town of Bedford.
Bunyan served as a Protestant leader, and was faithful to God. Bunyan s life will be analyzed from
an aspect of his life, split into two topics of early life and adult life, his worldview, and his
accomplishments in his lifetime. John Bunyans early life did not make him look like a servant for
the Lord. His childhood was not well recorded; however, it was known that he was being taught to
be a tinkerer by his father. In the year 1644 during the spring both his mother and sister passed
away. Later, in the same year but during the fall he was enrolled in the Parliamentary army during
the English Civil war. In the year 1647 after three years of service in the army he went home to
resume being a tinkerer. Soon Bunyan s life would change in a completely different way. John
Bunyan s early life was leading him to become a tinkerer, however during his adult life his path
changed. During the years of 1647 and 1649 he met his first wife and... Show more content on

Investigating The Absorption And Release Of Pah And Oc
In practice, one of the most widely used polymers is PDMS because it is a material that has good
partitioning properties such as low mass transfer resistance for hydrophobic and nonpolar
compounds (Mayer et al. 6148) and recently there has been many studies investigating PDMS
absorptive properties, however, only a few have focused on the ability of PDMS to release
absorbed chemicals into water. In general, experiments have proven that PDMS can be used to
calculate the equilibrium concentrations of many different compounds dissolved in water once the
concentrations of these analytes absorbed in the pellets are determined. Since PDMS is not affected
by the nature of the matrices or by exposure to hydrophilic chemicals, it can be used for... Show

Assuming that the process exhibit a labguimir equilibrium distribution, the thermodynamic behavior
of the partitioning process can be modeled by using a first order one compartment equation (Vrana
et al. 845).
C_PDMS (t)=C_w (k_1/k_(2 ) )(1 e^( tk_2 ))
C_w represents the concentration of analyte in water, C_s(t) the concentration of analyte at a given
time on the PDMS, and k1/k2 are the uptake and release rates constants in the kinetic process. The
exchange of solute into and out of a passive sampling system usually follows a predictable

Therefore, a mathematical equation that relates the concentration of analyte absorbed in the PDMS
pellets as a function of uptake or release rate constants k, equilibrium concentration of the
compounds in the polymer and the t95% can be used (Smith, Oostingh, and Mayer 55). T95% is the
time to reach 95% of the maximum measure concentration or steady state (Smith, Oostingh, and
Mayer 55), so at t95% the concentration of analyte at time t is 0.95 of the equilibrium concentration
(Ct = 0.95Ceq) (Brown and A. 4097).

Great Dungeon Malphas Essay
Great Dungeon Malphas was a nearly infinite dungeon. With one thousand floors it s depth s had
never been seen by the sentient races living on the surface. Many mighty heroes had attempted to
clear this dungeon, and many more had fallen victim to its traps and servants. The hero that had
delved the deepest and survived, refused to descend into it once more. He proceeded to spend the
money he gained and expended his influence to purchase a vast swath of land around the dungeon.

Nearly seventy years since and Heinrick the legendary dungeon crawler, the man who had nearly
conquered Malphas, was returning to the dungeon. He had with him an item he spent his remaining
wealth searching for and obtaining. It was rumored to be able to instantly teleport you to a
dungeons core, at the cost of all but ten days of your remaining lifespan. Most people would never
try to get their hands on an item like this, much less use one.

But Heinrick had a vendetta against this dungeon. What those who worshiped him didn t know, is
that this dungeon had cursed him. At his level he should have nearly eighty years left and still be
looking as if he were at the peak of his youth. Now he could feel himself growing weaker by the day
and his once handsome visage has melted to a horrid forgery.

PERSONAL MONEY MANAGEMENT

Mr. Nico Del Valle

I.Introduction: The idea of management implies that you have a goal or a set of goals in mind.
Therefore, the first and most important part of money management is to clarify your own goals,
commit to them and write them down. Why do you need money? What will you use your money
for? How much do you need? For what? For When? Be specific and realistic. Different people have
different needs and different wants. Prioritize your needs. Some wants and needs will have a higher
priority than others. Make your priorities clear and allocate sufficient funds ... Show more content on

This can be a significant boost to your total savings.
Finally, and most importantly, the numbers here are AVERAGES over the entire career of the
subject. That s why the numbers look so daunting. Most people get raises over time, which, in
theory, increase the amount they can save. Therefore, the more distant goals can be safely under
funded for longer periods of time than the more immediate goals. If you have a 30,000 php/year job
and get 3% raises every year for 20 years, you would finish with 54,183 php/year. Then, assuming
you hit a plateau for the next 9 years, you would average 44,931 php/year over the span of your
career.
So, if you can t imagine ever saving 2,800 php per month, don t worry too much. The other factors
mentioned above should lend a helping hand. However, those figures can be used as inspiration to
let you achieve your goals faster.
We rarely hear of people who complain because they became rich too early in life and found they
could safely retire much earlier than they had first planned.

Dealing with debt

OK, so now you are living cheaper and as a result have some extra money left over from your
immediate survival based monthly expenses. Time to slay the Debt Monster... or is it? One
important decision to make is where to allocate the extra 50 you made. Will it go to pay down debt
or will it go to savings? Money has momentum. This is why the rich get richer and the poor get
poorer. Money s momentum is exponential as a result of

Anzac Day Research Paper
Anzac day is celebrated on the 25th of April which marks the day when Anzac soldiers landed at
Gallipoli, ANZAC Cove in 1915. It is important to celebrate as it shows a sign of respect for the
people who put their lives at great risk to fight for freedom in our country. Anzac stands for
Australian New Zealand Army Corps. It is an important and relevant day in modern society as we
would not be living with the freedom we have now without the bravery of those Anzac soldiers
103 years ago. Therefore it is fair that we pay our respects on this date to celebrate the lives of the
soldiers who fought for our countries freedom in the war at Gallipoli.

As well as Anzac day being an important day to celebrate, there are reasons why it shouldn t be
