Reno V ACLU Case Study
Reno v ACLU: The Importance of Detail In the 1990s technological advances began to skyrocket at
unpredicted rates. In 90s household computer ownership more than doubled, and computer usage in
the average household increased over 300%. Due to the rapid growth in technology and its
associated internet hardware, there was massive ambiguity on the legalities in telecommunications.
Such an example would include the 1997 supreme court case Reno v ACLU. In Reno v ACLU the
supreme court had to decide on whether or not the Communications Decency Act of 1996 (CDA)
violated first amendment rights. The CDA was a ban on the transmission of patently offensive
material to minors. Although it was pleasant sounding prima facie, the CDA was heavily criticized
for being overly broad, and attempting to prohibit formerly protected speech. Despite the controversy
relating to the CDA, the supreme court managed to come to a unanimous decision to find the ban
unconstitutional. The supreme court s decision to overrule the Communications Decency Act was
an effective means of upholding the American Constitution because the ban violated the first
amendment rights of U.S. citizens. In the technological boom of the 1990s internet usage became
became exponentially popular. This unprecedented development in technology led to people
questioning the permissibility of online conduct. In particular, people panicked over the easy
accessibility of adult content on the internet. Many parents and families were quick to worry about
the possibility that their young children could view pornographic material with just a few clicks
on a on the computer. As government officials became aware of families concerns, the legislative
branch was quick to action. Finally in 1996, Congress passed the Communications Decency Act in
efforts to protect minors for obtaining pornography online. However, distressed parents were not
able to celebrate for long. The same day that Congress passed the CDA, the American Civil
Liberties Union (ACLU) challenged the ban by taking it to court. The ACLU believed that the the
CDA was far too broad and violated the first and fifth amendments by criminalizing wide ranging
elements of internet speech. On March 19th, 1997 the case was
Masculinity In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
The people in Chronicle of a Death Foretold surround themselves with honor whist they hide behind
their masculinity. This concept of conserving their honor above all else is the source of the society
s problem, they all mask themselves from the truth because they are frightened by it. This is
demonstrated by Angela s mother, Purisima del Carmen, when she beats Angela for supposedly not
being a virgin, she was holding me by the hair with one hand and beating me with the other with
such rage that I thought she was going to kill me (Márquez 46). By suppressing themselves, the
women of the society give into the expectation set by Machismo. When Purísima beats Angela
instead of consoling her, she is depicting the impact Machismo has on the women.
My Vision For America Essay
The first English settlers arrived in the New World around the early 1600 s and established
colonies. About a year and a half later, our amazing and beautiful country took place. America has
been alive and ever blossoming for 239 years. Our goal subsists to keeping that number high. My
visions for America so we can keep blossoming remain as follows: a strong military force, a
healthy society, and a faithful unity of people. Developing and sustaining a powerful military
force takes the place as the first of my visions for America. On the day, September 29, 1789, our
country s first official military force came about. That day meant that, from this time forward we
will do our absolute best to defend our country. So far we have kept our word; aside from only a
few losses. After reading that, we can t lose hope; we can t let down now, we must push forward in
this goal! In the beginning process of our military addition we had the early equipment and thinking.
Now, our military has developed and produced more sufficient equipment and more thoughtful and
strategic thinking. According to world... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sustaining a healthy society means that there lives more people employed rather than unemployed
and to have as little national debt as possible. Comparing America to my Vison for America, there
exists approximately 315 million people in America and about 156 million of them stand employed
and 8.6 million unemployed. Shown those statistics, the approximate unemployment rate happens
as 5.3%. Given these statements, we can infer that there are far more people employed rather than
unemployed in America. Nevertheless, 2.35 trillion occurs as America s average yearly imports
and the average yearly amount we export remains 1.65 trillion, putting us in debt. By and large,
America stands about half way there in my second vision for America, but every year we get closer
and closer yet at pursuing our
Examples Of Wisdom In A Midsummer s Night Dream
Modern Old Wisdom

With the way modern life is now, it s rare for anything to be timeless. What is modern is forever
changing as what is modern right now can become totally obsolete in less than a year. This is
largely because development of things, particularly technology, are very quick and new
improvements are being made insanely fast. This makes it so most of the time words that are not said
in the last year or so are left in the dust. This makes it very hard for these words or to remain
relevant for an extended period of time in this fast paced world. This makes it very special that
something that was made so long ago has quotations that are still so relatable and relevant in this
ever changing world in A Midsummer s Night Dream by William Shakespeare. Lysander has the
memorable quotes and is the one that will be analyzed. A case will be made for why he has the
most wisdom, memorability, and timelessness of anyone in the play. ... Show more content on

Compared to his lead rival Demetrius, he is a lot more nice and and just overall a better character.
You can see this when Demetrius was mean to Helena when she followed him around. The way
he treated her was borderline sociopathic. He didn t give her the least bit of respect. Lysander s
character on the other hand is very nice. This was shown when he listened to Egeus s reasons for
why Hermia should marry Demetrius. He did not argue disrespectfully when the reasons where
listed, instead he was very nice and stated his side
Desire And Fear In The Great Gatsby Analysis
There are two things that are constant in human beings, desire, and fear. Everyone has something
that they desire; humans live their lives constantly wanting things. Humans spend their time
striving towards those goals or those wants. In F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, much of
the book centers around desire and fear within the characters. It follows a rich man named Gatsby
and his affair with his old, and now married, lover Daisy. Not only them, but the book follows a
series of people who have affairs in various stages of displeasure with their love life, whether it be
want for something else or fear of what they have. Without desire one will have no drive to live
and change, and without fear one will have nothing to keep them from doing things that risk their
life. When people allow these two things to cloud their judgement is when they become
desperate. Desperation occurs when people allow their emotions to override their rational
thinking process, allowing them to make decisions that they would not have if they were
thinking logically. One of the easiest ways to trigger desperation is being afraid, because most of
what people do is driven by fear. Fear is such a powerful emotion that it is quite hard for many to
override, meaning more often than not, people become desperate. A result of this is making
incredibly irrational decisions; for example, if one hears a strange noise in one s apartment, one
could walk around one s apartment scared out of one s wits with
Determining Mastery For Instructional Strategies
Determining Mastery for Instructional Strategies Determining mastery can be a complex
procedure even for the most experienced educators. It involves not only a designated percentage
on assessments, but also must take into account the cognitive complexity of the assessment as well
as the nature of the learning goal students are being asked to master. This further requires
consideration for the rigor of expectations set for students performance (Guskey, 2001). An
assessment can contain items or tasks that are so challenging that even students who receive a low
cutoff score can be deemed as having achieved mastery. For example, think about the Graduate
Records Examination (GRE). Though a student may only answer half of the test questions for the
GRE physics exam correctly, due to the complexity of the questions, they will have performed
better than over 70 percent of those who take the test. Another factor in determining mastery is
professional judgement. Like it or not, scores on assessments aren t always completely accurate
and some level of professional judgement is required to adjust scores for error, for example,
slightly lowering the score out of concern for false rejection or incorrectly classifying a master as a
non master (Guskey Andermann, 2014). This false rejection could be detrimental for borderline
students in that it would affect their confidence and their desire to continue pursuing mastery as well
as causing otherwise talented students not to pass a
Analysis Of Where Men Win Glory, By Jon Krakauer
Research Discussion: In Where Men Win Glory, Jon Krakauer primarily uses a lot of primary
sources to present the story of Pat Tillman. Using many books and first person encounters, Krakauer
relays the information that is necessary to understand the context around the Pat Tillman story. For
example, he uses Mary Tillman s Boots on the Ground by Dusk: My Tribute to Pat Tillmanwhich is
primary source. This source is very useful because it talks about Pat Tillman from a person who
knew him very well: his mother Mary. Knowing that Jon is getting his information about Pat from
such an important figure in his life, the reader knows that this book is reliable as well. I believe
that this type of research falls under pathos because it appeals to a
