INDIAN NAVY (COMMAND STRUCTURE)

The Indian Navy is divided into three main Command Headquarters, each headed by a Flag
Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C) of the rank of Vice Admiral. These are:
1. Western Naval Command – Based in Mumbai, responsible for operations in the Arabian Sea.
2. Eastern Naval Command – Based in Visakhapatnam, manages operations in the Bay of
Bengal.
3. Southern Naval Command – Based in Kochi, primarily responsible for training and support.
This structure ensures strategic maritime control, operational readiness, and effective
management of naval resources across regions.

Commissioned Officers lead warships, submarines, and naval air squadrons.


They plan missions, manage operations, and ensure combat readiness at all levels.
They also handle administrative duties, training programs, and strategic planning.
JCOs are the experienced middle leaders of the force.
They act as the bridge between officers and sailors in technical and operational roles.
They supervise departments onboard ships, manage logistics, and uphold discipline.
NCOs are the core workforce of the Navy, trained in multiple specializations.
They perform duties like operating weapons, handling machinery, communications, and
navigation.
They also assist in firefighting, damage control, and emergency response on board.
Many lead small working groups and play a critical role during naval drills and patrols.
This structured hierarchy ensures discipline, operational excellence, and mission success at sea.
