Purpose Statement For Diabetes
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

According to International Diabetes Federation, approximately 592 million people worldwide

would be suffering from diabetes by 2035 and this would be a major economic burden to the
society globally. Detail knowledge of normal physiological processes at cellular and molecular
level will give me a better understanding in dealing with pathological conditions in human body.
Insight of the structure and function of organelles, chemical composition of enzymes, hormones,
their interaction and expression in structural and functional unit of life can significantly help in
bringing down morbidity and mortality associated with metabolic disorders like diabetes and
various other diseases. Grown up in a family of medical professionals, the curiosity to explore
various life processes was not only acquired but also inherent. I want to take a leap forward of what
my parents and grandparents practice and Cell and Molecular Physiology or Immunology as major
will surely make me accomplish in achieving my aim of life.
As a small child, I had seen the agony of patients and limitations of medical profession in dealing
with various illnesses. I had innumerable queries which were beyond my capability to understand ...

Importance Of Reinforcement And Conditioning In The...
Something is learned by the piecing experiences together and creating a behavior change as a result
of the new learning (King, 2016). Connections or associations of events assist in the associative
learning process and serve as a form of conditioning (King, 2016). Conditioning is accomplished by
two methods or approaches. Conditioning using the operant method involves learning by
consequences and conditioning using the classical method involves learning by association (King,
2016). Using punishment and reinforcement, conditioning can be achieved using the instrumental
or operant method, while the classical method utilizes stimuli and responses to a condition. By
definition, the term positive refers to qualities or features being present as opposed to them being
absent and with negative referring to qualities or features being absent as opposed to them being
present (Dictionary, 2017). The term positive involved with operant learning works as a result of
the process and means that after conditioning the result will be more likely present or repeated
again. With negative being the exact opposite by definition and in operant learning, the result is that
after conditioning the result will be less likely present or repeated again. Reinforcement involves
the methods that increase the chances of a behavior being repeated and occur after the behavior that
you want to be repeated occurs (King, 2016). Punishment involves decreasing a behavior as a result
of a consequence
The Self Esteem Of Children During The Primary Grades Of...
The objective my project was to positively influence the self esteem of children in the primary
grades of two areas of Panama City. As a future early childhood teacher, I have learned it is
important to find classroom activities that build the self images of students, while creating a respect
for individual differences and future goals (Lawrence, 2006, p. 101). High self esteemcorrelates
positivity with the academic achievements of students (Kaniuka, 2010, p. 184). Community partners
indicated the need to help children build positive self images while promoting the academic goals of
primary gradestudents. Our community partners have indicated that they believe such an initiative
will serve to lower the drop out rates in schools within impoverished areas of Panama City. In
addition, the Biblioteca of Mananitas, and Centro Educativo Marie Poussepin ( CEMP ) of
Curundu has supported initiatives to increase home reading as a means to increase academic
success. Lastly, community partners have expressed a desire to introduction children to English
words at an early age to increase future employability across various economic sectors in Panama.
In furtherance of all of these objectives, I developed a lesson plan that encouraged children to create
an All About Me bookin both English and Spanish for the early primary grades of students in
Mananitas and Curundu.

Essay on James Joyce s quot;The Dead quot;
James Joyce s short story The Dead deals with the meaning of life. This title is significant and
enhances several aspects of the story. First of all, it reveals that the characters are unable to be
emotional. They are physically living but emotionally dead. Second of all, it contributes to the main
subject of the story, Gabriel s epiphany. The title contributes to these aspects of the story by adding
meaning and acting as a reminder of the overall theme of the story.

The title, The Dead , reveals the difference between how the people appear to be and who they
really are. All the people at the party appear lively, but inside, these people are dead. Dead in this
context implies that they are emotionally dead, but also that they ... Show more content on

Another example where the characters are dead occurs where they talk about an order of monks
who sleep in their coffins. These monks actually act as a metaphor for the characters. While
discussing why the monks do this, the reason is given that it was the rule; that was all (Joyce 871).
This statement shows the ability to accept something because it is a rule without even
understanding the real purpose and parallels the acceptance of social rituals by the characters. They
each act the way they do because it is the rule. The characters also call the monks very good men
(Joyce 871). This represents that the characters see the blind acceptance of these social rituals as a
good thing. This metaphor illustrates the characters as empty and meaningless. It is also noted that
the monks do not speak to each other. This is also true about the characters. They do not really
interact with each other out of this ritual. The only difference between the characters and the monks
is that the monks have a greater purpose for their actions. This emphasizes how self involved the
characters are.

It is also relevant that each of the characters in the story seem to feel they are superior and able to
control their lives. The title The Dead is a reminder to the reader that these characters are wrong.
Anatomical Connections Between Hypothalamic OT Neurons And...
Overview: The proposed work is designed to unravel detailed anatomical connections between
hypothalamic OT neurons and distal brain neurons (Aim1 and 2) and their function in the CLA EPd
complex in order to begin understanding how this signaling system regulates social behavior (Aim3).
We plan to combine our novel brainmapping tools with genetic and viral tools to examine neural
connection of OT neurons, along with behavioral assays to begin learning how the OT signaling
system controls social behavior.
Specific Aim1. Determine topographical output projection from OT expressing neurons of the
hypothalamus.

3D distribution of OT neurons in the hypothalamus: We used knock in mice expressing Cre
recombinase under OT promoter (OT Cre, developed by Gloria Choi s lab at MIT)[29] crossed
with Cre dependent reporter mice (CAG LoxP Stop LoxP tdTomato, called Ai14 )[31]. Four
week old mice were perfused and imaged by serial two photon tomography (Figure 2). We
performed the imaging registration of the 3D reconstructed brain to the common reference brain
in order to display the precise 3D location of OT neurons (Figure 2A)[25]. and observed the strong
expression in PVH, SO, accessory nuclei (AN) and tuberal nucleus (TU) of hypothalamus (Figure

Corinna s Going A Maying Poem
Living in the moment is a sentiment that has been repeated throughout most of our lives; so
much so that most of us have long since come to view it as nothing more than an abstract concept.
This way of living is called into question in the poem Corinna s going a Maying , where author
Robert Herrick explores the concept of living in the moment. The poem is a riddle due to the
high amount of similes and metaphors throughout it, its purpose being to make the reader think
about the idea of how important it is to seize the day and make the most of life while you can. In
the first quatrain, the speaker says how our dayes run as fast away as do s the Sunne . Though
the simile seems obvious since the movements of the sun govern our lives, what the speaker is
suggesting is that despite the sun being such a powerful influence, we do not realize just how
much it is so and that once it sets, that is one less day we have to live out. The couplet following
restates that life is short using a simile comparing life to a raindrop And as a vapour, or a drop
ofraine / Once lost, can ne r be found againe , once again reiterating the point that life is short, for
when a drop of rain evaporates, it is gone forever. This simile also forces the reader to consider that
just like a raindrop which is here one moment and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The May Day isn t just a day for frivolity it is a metaphor for living life to the fullest. The
incremental repetition of the speaker s pleas to get to the celebrations ( let s goe a Maying ) has a
sense of urgency to it, as does the strong alliteration of come, my Corinna, come . The speaker s
urgent pleas reflect how quickly life can be taken away and that the listener needs to make the most
what they have while they can; to participate in pleasures and make memories in the here and now.
For once life ends, that is the end. There will be no fun beyond the
Analysis Of Michel Foucault s The Of The Docile Women
Though Bartkey s argument demonstrates logic and cohesive arguments, she fails to impress readers
with her solution to end the legacy of the docile women. Sandra Bartkey commences her argument
with an introduction to Michel Foucault. She explains how Foucault demonstrates the presence of
self policing in society through the usage of the Panopticon. The Panopticon is a prisonwhere there
stands one central guard tower and rows of prison cells surrounding the tower. Sunlight shines into
the cells creating a clear view for the guards that enables them to perceive everything that occurs in
these cells. Though the scarcity of guards limits the amount of prisoners that can be viewed at one
time, the prisoners feel watched at all times.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence, even though a liberatory note is sounded in Foucault s critique of power, his analysis, as a
whole reproduces that sexism which is endemic throughout Western political. (169). In summary,
women remain considerably further prone to self policing themselves to become the docile woman a
standard in society today.
The first way women police themselves happens through media, diet and exercise. Bartkey defines
the standard for women s figures today, by saying The current body of fashion is taunt, small
breasted, narrow hipped, and of a slimness bordering on emancipation; it is a silhouette that seems
more appropriate to an adolescent boy or a newly pubescent girl than to an adult woman. Since
ordinary women have normally quite different dimensions, they must of course diet (170). The
author states that due to many women not fitting this model like image, they are forced to diet and
exercise. The exercises that women partake in are designed to slim the body down in certain areas
the hips, thighs, etc. to ensure they fit this body standard, therefore policing themselves to fit society
s standards.
The second way women police themselves happens through body and facial constriction. Women sit
with their legs crossed, their arms in their lap and hunched over, while men are known to sit with
their legs widely spread out. The women s smaller posture only builds on the idea that they are
meant to be
Essay on Technology and Education
Technology and Education

Education is one of the most important professions in the working world. Technology has done many
things for us in today s society especially for education and schools. Technology in the school system
has impacted the students and teachers in many positive ways, including virtual field trips, testing
tips, teacher resources, class web sites, and lesson plans. With computer use in our schools, we have
access to many different sources and various types of learning.

Virtual field trips are a good way for kids to learn and get involved with computers. Students can go

On the Internet teachers have set plans or guidelines for other teachers to look at and get ideas on
what to do for their classroom. I think this is a great idea for teachers to use especially for new and
young teachers to get some great ideas. By using this tool, teachers could hopefully get better and
new ideas on how to teach certain subjects or try new things with the students. Teachers can get hints
on how they can give tests, or how to help the students become better test takers on the Internet. The
web site http//www.schoolnotes.com showed many different ways teachers could help the students.
The site gives teachers ideas on the best ways to give oral test, true and false tests, by giving the
teacher instructions on how to successfully present the material. Class Webs are another way
teachers and students can get involved with the Internet and technology; students can help their
teachers create a web page for their class. Many teachers use the Internet to find Resources for the
classroom. They can find many things for the class to do on the Internet like games and projects.

I have talked to a couple of teachers when I worked for an elementary school in high school during
my Junior and Senior year. I asked the teachers whom I worked with what they thought of using the
computers in schools. They said it is a nice thing to have in school for the students. The teachers
liked the idea that they could get the students on programs to help
Gladwell and Gopnik
With America s history of people fighting for their rights, we have become accustomed to the idea
that activism needs to be extreme; to cause riots, have aggression, and for people to be put in jail
to make a point. We have created an image that there needs to be a fierce willingness to fight, in
order for activism to be effective. As Malcolm Gladwell describes in Why the Revolution Should
not be Tweeted , he reminds us of what real activism is and how other generations have risked their
lives to make a difference, in both their lives and the future of America. He does not think that
activists can be considered true activists if they are non violent when protesting for their rights.
However, Gladwell should consider that protesting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ravioli, the imaginary friend, was always on a run. She could observe from afar. In order for
activism to be strong, it needs more than one person and one idea. The more people or
acquaintance s that are reached, the stronger the support system is. In order to have an even
stronger system we need our supporters to understand and believe in the action that is being
protested. Social media is capable with not only getting in contact with other people but it allows
you to grab those people s attentions in many different ways. These followers need to be
convinced and taught about the different options that they can be given. Many people follow
trends, and with social media being a big part of the trend it makes it easier to have an audience.
It is easy for people to invite people to a group, or event on Facebook or even having a following
of tweeters on Twitter because people are able to add descriptions. In this descriptions majority of
people who are protesting are able to write who they are, what the problem is, give ideas of
solutions to the problem and overall a way to convince their readers to press Like , re tweet ,
Follow or Attend . With their explanation they can create a bandwagon of supporters and build a
strong willed support system. Gladwell used the example of the Bhatia needing a bone marrow
transplant. Even though people helped by signing up for a donor registry and sending in a

A Clean Well Lighted Place By Ernest Hemingway
How has your understanding of the concept of belonging been shaped by the representation of
relationships and events that you have encountered in the texts you have studied for the Area of
Study: Belonging?

Belonging requires an individual to build a connection with another person or group over time, these
connections are often developed through shared experience and understanding. Peter Skrzynecki s
poems; Feliks Skrzynecki (1975) and Migrant Hostel (1975) offer various perspectives and
representations on this concept. Ernest Hemingway s short story A clean well lighted place (1926)
and the picture Berlin Wall by unknown (1973) compliment these perspectives and representations
further.

Rebel Without A Cause Pop Culture
Midterm paper: Pop Culture: Sex, Drugs, Rock Roll. Rebel Without a Cause led way to the first
on screen teenage bad boy. James Dean plays a disgruntled teenager (Jim) is unsatisfied with life
and the patriarchy of following the rules. He hates that his dad lets his mom run the household
and caters to her versus the traditional father makes all the rules stance. Rebel Without a Cause
allows for a deep consideration of what the stereotypical 1950s teenager felt. The movie looks at
teenage relationships with the older generation and exclaims the disdain both parties share for
one another during the tremulous coming of age time. Jim s parents are not sure how to raise
him the best way, and he loses respect for them judging on how they interact with him and each
other. The other main teenage characters within the film are Judy portrayed by Natalie Wood,
and John Plato Crawford portrayed by Sal Mineo. Natalie Wood s character is probably
reminiscent of what many young female teenagers went through at the time. She deals with
gender issues and must find her way as a developing young woman when her parents seem
clueless to her concerns and struggles. Her father does not know how to guide her through this
next stage of life and instead turns her away which causes her to feel bad about herself. Her
Mother has no real clue on how to help either of them as well. Plato is also a striking character
within the story that is utterly confused and has no real guidance in life. All three
The Symbolism in “The Hills Like White Elephants” by...
The Hills Like White Elephants is a short story that is about an American man and a girl called
Jig. They are sitting at a table outside a train station, waiting for a train to Madrid. While they wait
they order drinks and have a heated ongoing conversation over whether or not Jig will have an
operation that would be of great significance to their relationship. The HillsLike White Elephants by
Ernest Hemingwayhas two important symbols in the story, the hills and the drinks both of which
help to give us a better understanding of what is going on between the American and his girl. The
story begins with a vivid description of a trainstation surrounded by hills and fields. This scene tells

The girl remarks that she and the American man never do anything together except try new drinks.
This can represent that their relationship is boring and mundane which seems to bother the girl.
These feelings can reflect that girl may be ready for change and a chance to settle down, unlike
the man who doesn t seem interested in changing his carefree ways. She also asks the man
permission for a drink and has to rely on him to order the drinks because of her inability to speak
Spanish. She appears disappointed that she is so dependent on the man and no matter what her
decision may be, their relationship will no longer be the same. After trying the new drink she
replies that Everything tastes like licorice. Especially all the things you ve waited so long for like
absinthe (Hemingway 655). Another symbolism that Jig is now feeling bittersweet about the
decision because she may want to have the baby, but the man s decision is to have the abortion.
At the end of their conversation, both are drinking alone, the girl at the table and the man at the bar
which can imply that their relationship my end by them going their separate ways. The Hills Like
White Elephants by Ernest Hemingway has many symbolisms throughout the story. Two important
symbols, the hills and the drinks give the reader insight into the intentions and emotions the
American man and the girl are going through as they are faced with a major
The History Of 1960s Music In The 1960s
Music in 1960s
Music has been a part of the human race for as long as it has been existing. Its various forms and
genres categorizes and divides the music country wise, ranging from initially Folk music as the
base, moving on to Country music as a regions identity. The music gained enormous name and
fame because of its hypnotizing effect on the singer and the listener. From Rock n Roll, evolving
towards British invasion, music in 1960 s played a major role in evolution of UK.This evolution
was brought up by the introduction of rock and roll, collaborating different races and changing the
lifestyle thus transforming UK from a conservative country into the capital of the world.

Before rock and roll hit the Great Britain, blues and jazz were the genres of the era. Singers from
various nations like the US or Africa, started working solo or as bands and increased the impact
of music on people slive. Before the 50 s, various controversies arose regarding the style of Jazz
and Blues, and their effect on the local residents and The British Invasion also began around 1963
with the arrival of The Beatles on the music scene and the type of rabid fandom that followed them
would change the way people would view and interact with me and musicians forever. (The People
History). Although rock and roll began influencing Britain in the 1950s, it wasn t until the early
Sixties and the emergence of British Invasion groups like The Beatles, that music truly began its
revolutionary changes
