3. INTRODUCTION
This Service Bulletin provides instructions to install a DK180 Low Frequency Underwater
Locator Device (LF-ULD), between FR56 and FR57 in the Aft Cargo Compartment, RH side,
of an A320 (Group 1-2 & 4) and between FR59 and FR60 in the Aft Cargo Compartment, RH
side, of an A319 (Group 3).

4. AIRWORTHINESS APPROVAL BASIS


This Service Bulletin has been approved under the Eirtech Design Change number
ERT/CNG/1292.

5. COMPLIANCE
Eirtech Aviation recommends that this Service Bulletin be completed at the operators’
discretion.

6. CONCURRENT REQUIREMENTS
None.

7. MANPOWER
The table below shows an estimate of the task hours necessary to do this change for a single
aircraft. This estimate is for direct labour only, done by an experienced crew. The estimate
does not include lost time. Examples of lost time include:
• Time to adjust the workplace.
• Time to schedule the work.
• Time to inspect the work.
• Time to cure the materials.

12. INSTRUCTIONS FOR CONTINUED AIRWORTHINESS


A Maintenance Planning Data Supplement MPDS/1292-001 (Group 1-2 & 4) or MPDS/1292-
001 (Group 3) is included which captures the future planning and inspection requirements of
this unit. Aircraft Manual (AIPC & AMM) Supplement AMS/1292-001 (Group 1-2 & 4) or
AMS/1292-002 (Group 3) is introduced to detail the parts installed by this change and the
associated maintenance practices. Refer to Dukane Technical Manual 03-TM-0064 for ICA
which details inspection/maintenance practices for the DK180.
A Master Minimum Equipment List Supplement MMELS/1292-001 (Group 1-2 & 4) or
MMELS/1292-002 (Group 3) is provided with this Change to permit operation with the LF-
ULD inoperative.

13. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS


Group ALL
Notes:
1. It is recommended that this SB be read entirely prior to accomplishment.
2. To accomplish this SB gain access to the affected areas of the aircraft by opening
or removing appropriate doors and panels.
3. Refer to associated Maintenance Manual Supplements as required.
4. Ensure all parts being installed have an appropriate Form 1 or equivalent, and an
applicable burn test Certificate.
5. Obey all warnings and cautions given in the specified manual sections.
6. The accomplishment instructions described in section 13 of this SB show the
recommended sequence of steps. The sequence of these steps can be changed.
7. For the identification of zones, refer to AMM 06-20-00.
8. For the Frame (FR) identification, refer to AMM 06-31-53.
9. For the identification of access panels, refer to AMM 06-41-53.
10. For the specification of Material application codes given in this Service Bulletin,
refer to the aircraft CML.
11. Remove and install fasteners in accordance with SRM 51-42-00.
12. Get fastener hole diameters and drill data in accordance with SRM 51-44-00.
13. Apply sealant in accordance with SRM 51-24-00.
14. Renew the protective finish in accordance with SRM 51-75-12.
15. For the electrical bonding components with rivets, refer to ESPM 20-51-20 and
AMM Task 20-28-00-912-802-A.

CAUTION:
Always obey the precautions that follow to keep electrical wiring in a satisfactory
condition (electrically and mechanically serviceable). When you do maintenance
work, repairs or modifications, always keep electrical wiring, components and the
work area as clean as possible. To do this:
• Put protection, such as plastic sheeting, cloths, etc., as necessary on wiring
and components
• Regularly remove all shavings, unwanted material and
Other contamination
These precautions will decrease the risk of contamination and damage to the
electrical wiring installation. If there is contamination, refer to ESPM 20-55-00.

13.1 Preparation – All Groups MECH INSP

13.1.1 Make sure that the aircraft is electrically grounded, refer


to AMM Task 12-34-24-869-002-A.

13.1.2 GROUP 1-2 & 4 ONLY


Remove the sidewall Panel 152HW from the aft cargo
compartment, between Frame 56 and Frame 58 (RH
side), refer to AMM Task 25-55-11-000-003-A.

13.1.3 GROUP 3 ONLY


Remove the sidewall Panel 162AW from the aft cargo
compartment, between Frame 59 and Frame 62 (RH
side), refer to AMM Task 25-55-12-000-003-A.

13.2 Work Instructions – Group 1 & 4 ONLY MECH INSP

13.2.1 With reference to Drawing ERT/1292-201, temporarily


put in position:
LF-ULD BRACKET #2, P/N ERT/1292-511-02.

13.2.2 Drill five holes on the STGR29RH to align with the


existing holes on the bracket, in accordance with the
dimensions given in Drawing ERT/1292-201.
Note: Deburr the holes and clean the work area.
Note: Apply Polysulfide Sealant General Purpose
(ref: Section 8.1.2) to the interface of the structure and
the new bracket.

13.2.3 IAW Drawing ERT/1292-201, attach the bracket (P/N


ERT/1292-511-02) to the STGR29RH with the specified
rivets.
Note: Apply Polysulfide Sealant Low Density Multi-
Purpose (ref: Section 8.1.2) around the edges of the
bracket, and the rivets.
Note: Refer to SRM 51-24-00, SRM 51-42-00, SRM 51-
44-00 and SRM 51-75-12 if required.

13.2.4 Perform the electrical bonding of the bracket (P/N


ERT/1292-511-02), refer to ESPM 20-51-20 and AMM
Task 20-28-00-912-802-A.

13.2.5 If required, renew the protective finish with:


• Primer Epoxy Paint – TSA Anodizing Corrosion
Inhibiting Structure (ref: Section 8.1.2)
• Coating Flexible Structure (ref: Section 8.1.2)

13.2.6 With reference to Drawing ERT/1292-201, temporarily


put in position:
LF-ULD BRACKET #1, P/N ERT/1292-511-01

13.2.7 Drill five holes on the STGR31RH to align with the


existing holes on the bracket, in accordance with the
dimensions given in Drawing ERT/1292-201.
Note: Deburr the holes and clean the work area.
Note: Apply Polysulfide Sealant General Purpose
(ref: Section 8.1.2) to the interface of the structure and
the new bracket.
13.2.8 IAW Drawing ERT/1292-201, attach the bracket (P/N
ERT/1292-511-01) to the STGR31RH with the specified
rivets.
Note: Apply Polysulfide Sealant Low Density Multi-
Purpose (ref: Section 8.1.2) around the edges of the
bracket, and the rivets.
Note: Refer to SRM 51-24-00, SRM 51-42-00, SRM 51-
44-00 and SRM 51-75-12 if required.

13.2.9 If required, renew the protective finish with:


• Primer Epoxy Paint – TSA Anodizing Corrosion
Inhibiting Structure (ref: Section 8.1.2)
• Coating Flexible Structure (ref: Section 8.1.2)

mounting plate assembly (P/N ERT/1292-501-01),
between Frame 56 and Frame 57, using screws and
washers, per ERT/1292-201. Torque per 80-T-34-3050.

13.2.11 Insert LF-ULD into cradle IAW Dukane Technical


Manual 03-TM-0064.

13.2.12 Install LF-ULD & Cradle onto the ERT/1292-501-01


mounting plate using screws and washers, per
ERT/1292-201. Torque per 80-T-34-3050.
Note: Perform the electrical bonding of the LF-ULD.
Refer to ESPM 20-51-20 and AMM Task 20-28-00-912-
802-A.

13.2.13 Install grounding wire (P/N ERT/1292-512-05) IAW


ESPM Chapter 20 guidelines, with ref to ERT/1292-
201, to the LF-ULD mounting plate and bracket, with
screws and washers, per ERT/1292-201. Torque per
80-T-34-3050.
Note: Perform the electrical bonding of the grounding
wire (P/N ERT/1292-512-05), with screws, refer to
ESPM 20-51-20 and AMM Task 20-28-00-912-802-A.

13.2.14 Perform a conductivity check to ensure that the bonding


path resistance is below the permitted values IAW AMM
Task 20-28-00-869-002-A and the ESPM.

13.2.15 Ensure the placards (ERT/1201-511-01) are bonded to


the mounting plate, IAW Drawing ERT/1292-201.

13.2.16 If required, modify the insulation blanket between


Frame 56 and Frame 57 in the Aft Cargo Compartment,
RH side, IAW AMM Task 25-80-00-200-001-A.
Ensure adequate area is provided for above the LF-
ULD to allow unobstructed access for quick removal.
Note: For the general removal of the insulation
blankets, refer to AMM Task 25-80-00-000-001-A.
Note: For the general installation of the insulation
blankets, refer to AMM Task 25-80-00-400-001-A.
Note: For the re-identification of parts, refer to
PMS 01-06-12.
13.2.17 If required, carry out the following marking on the
insulation blanket with indelible ink, IAW PMS 01-06-12:
‘‘This part has been modified in accordance with Eirtech
Service Bulletin ERT-SB-1820’’

13.3 Work Instructions – Group 2 ONLY MECH INSP

13.3.1 With reference to Drawing ERT/1292-201, ensure that


Airbus Mod 159277 has been accomplished on the A/C.
Ensure that the installed bracketry is electrically bonded
to the aircraft frame IAW ESPM 20-51-20. Refer to
AMM Task 20-28-00-802-A if bonding is required.
If required, renew the protective finish of the installed
brackets with:
• Primer Epoxy Paint – TSA Anodizing Corrosion
Inhibiting Structure (ref: Section 8.1.2)
• Coating Flexible Structure (ref: Section 8.1.2)
13.3.2 IAW Drawing ERT/1292-201, install the LF-ULD
mounting plate assembly (P/N ERT/1292-501-01),
between Frame 56 and Frame 57, using screws and
washers, per ERT/1292-201. Torque per 80-T-34-3050.

13.3.3 Insert LF-ULD into cradle IAW Dukane Technical


Manual 03-TM-0064.

13.3.4 Install LF-ULD & Cradle onto the ERT/1292-501-01


mounting plate using screws and washers, per
ERT/1292-201. Torque per 80-T-34-3050.
Note: Perform the electrical bonding of the LF-ULD.
Refer to ESPM 20-51-20 and AMM Task 20-28-00-912-
802-A.

13.3.5 Install grounding wire (P/N ERT/1292-512-05) IAW


ESPM Chapter 20 guidelines, with ref to ERT/1292-
201, to the LF-ULD mounting plate and bracket, with
screws and washers, per ERT/1292-201. Torque per
80-T-34-3050.
Note: Perform the electrical bonding of the grounding
wire (P/N ERT/1292-512-05), with screws, refer to
ESPM 20-51-20 and AMM Task 20-28-00-912-802-A.

13.3.6 Perform a conductivity check to ensure that the bonding


path resistance is below the permitted values IAW AMM
Task 20-28-00-869-002-A and the ESPM.

13.3.7 Ensure the placards (ERT/1201-511-01) are bonded to


the mounting plate, IAW Drawing ERT/1292-201.

13.3.9 If required, carry out the following marking on the
insulation blanket with indelible ink, IAW PMS 01-06-12:
‘‘This part has been modified in accordance with Eirtech
Service Bulletin ERT-SB-1820’’

13.4 Work Instructions – Group 3 ONLY MECH INSP

13.4.1 With reference to Drawing ERT/1292-202, temporarily


put in position:
LF-ULD BRACKET #2, P/N ERT/1292-511-02.

13.4.2 Drill five holes on the STGR29RH to align with the


existing holes on the bracket, in accordance with the
dimensions given in Drawing ERT/1292-202.
Note: Deburr the holes and clean the work area.
Note: Apply Polysulfide Sealant General Purpose
(ref: Section 8.1.2) to the interface of the structure and
the new bracket.
13.4.3 IAW Drawing ERT/1292-202, attach the bracket (P/N
ERT/1292-511-02) to the STGR29RH with the specified
rivets.
Note: Apply Polysulfide Sealant Low Density Multi-
Purpose (ref: Section 8.1.2) around the edges of the
bracket, and the rivets.
Note: Refer to SRM 51-24-00, SRM 51-42-00, SRM 51-
44-00 and SRM 51-75-12 if required.

13.4.4 Perform the electrical bonding of the bracket (P/N


ERT/1292-511-02), refer to ESPM 20-51-20 and AMM
Task 20-28-00-912-802-A.

13.4.5 If required, renew the protective finish with:


• Primer Epoxy Paint – TSA Anodizing Corrosion
Inhibiting Structure (ref: Section 8.1.2)
• Coating Flexible Structure (ref: Section 8.1.2)
NOTE: Follow the appropriate AMM procedure if
applicable, standard practices, and refer to the
appropriate technical data sheet & material application
instructions.

13.4.6 With reference to Drawing ERT/1292-202, temporarily


put in position:
A319 LF-ULD BRACKET #1, P/N ERT/1292-513-01

13.4.7 Drill five holes on the STGR31RH to align with the


existing holes on the bracket, in accordance with the
dimensions given in Drawing ERT/1292-202.

Manual 03-TM-0064.

13.4.12 Install LF-ULD & Cradle onto the ERT/1292-501-01


mounting plate using screws and washers, per
ERT/1292-202. Torque per 80-T-34-3050.
Note: Perform the electrical bonding of the LF-ULD.
Refer to ESPM 20-51-20 and AMM Task 20-28-00-912-
802-A.

13.4.13 Install grounding wire (P/N ERT/1292-512-05) IAW


ESPM Chapter 20 guidelines, with ref to ERT/1292-
202, to the LF-ULD mounting plate and bracket, with
screws and washers, per ERT/1292-202. Torque per
80-T-34-3050.
Note: Perform the electrical bonding of the grounding
wire (P/N ERT/1292-512-05), with screws, refer to
ESPM 20-51-20 and AMM Task 20-28-00-912-802-A.

13.4.14 Perform a conductivity check to ensure that the bonding


path resistance is below the permitted values IAW AMM
Task 20-28-00-869-002-A and the ESPM.

13.4.15 Ensure the placards (ERT/1201-511-01) are bonded to


the mounting plate, IAW Drawing ERT/1292-202.

13.4.16 If required, modify the insulation blanket between


Frame 59 and Frame 60 in the Aft Cargo Compartment,
RH side, IAW AMM Task 25-80-00-200-001-A.
Ensure adequate area is provided for above the LF-
ULD to allow unobstructed access for quick removal.
Note: For the general removal of the insulation

13.5.1 Make sure that the work areas are clean and clear of
tools and other items of equipment.

13.5.2 GROUP 1-2 & 4 ONLY


Install the sidewall Panel 152HW in the aft cargo
compartment between Frame 56 and Frame 58 (RH
side), refer to AMM Task 25-55-11-400-003-A.

13.5.3 GROUP 3 ONLY


Install the sidewall Panel 162AW in the aft cargo
compartment between Frame 59 and Frame 62 (RH
side), refer to AMM Task 25-55-12-400-003-A.

13.5.4 Return the aircraft to serviceable condition.
