Police Brutality On The American Public
Abdarahmane Toure English II Dr. Hollins Ph.D Solution Problem Thesis Police Brutality It is
never a bad time to discuss matters of police brutality since at any given time some American gets
pulled over or chased down the streets. When the police get hold of him, they probably will use
excessive force in getting him to the ground and cuffing him, they might beat him a little bit in
the process, just at the scene or maybe later at the station, or they just might kill him. This is the
brutal truth of the reality in the American streets. One can never understand clearly the brutality
of the police through mere reading of statistics. A search in the YouTube and the videos uploaded
would make you want to treat the police differently. The past few months has seen the police in
the news for all the wrong reasons. It is for this reason that this paper sets out to explore the
subject of police brutality on the American public. Two decades ago, riots broke out in Los
Angeles riots made news across the whole nation bringing the issue of excessive use of force by
the police to the court of the public. Since then the issue has remained issue of discussion although
little has changed. The police continue to beat up suspects, they continue to knock them off in
public for a mere show of might, people have even been killed, but very little has been done. The
year 2014 was a dark year to human rights activists. Police killed and

A River Runs Through It Essay
A River Runs Through It

Fly fishing is not what this story is all about, although it might seem so at first. Neither is it about
religion, even though the father s first line is: quot;In our family, there was no clear line between
religion and fly fishing. quot; Yes, these two things are themes that run through the story and add to
its power. But there is so much more. It depicts a place of beauty, history, myth, and mystery, it is a
triangle of earth in Montana where the writer grew up. And it captures a space of time in the not so
distant past with a sensitivity that is both witty and poetic. Robert Redford loved this story and
turned it into a handsome movie. Read it yourself or watch the movie, and you ... Show more content

The story traces the relationship between two brothers growing up in an emotionally constricted
household headed by a Presbyterian minister. The scholarly Norman follows in the footsteps of his
stern, stoic father, going to college, marrying and settling down. His older brother Paul, daring,
handsome and athletic, chooses the more glamourous career of newspaper journalist. These two very
different brothers are brought together through the years by a mutual love of fly fishing instilled in
them by their unyielding father. As Norman watches his brother s seemingly charmed life dissolve
under the influences of gambling and alcohol, the art of fly fishing becomes a touching metaphor for
the love their father was unable to express in any other way.
The events of this story are simple enough; the narrator, and his younger brother, Paul, have
learned from their father the art of fly fishing. The narrator s wife and mother in law ask both
brothers to take a never do well brother in law fishing, as if fishing might somehow cure the
brother in law of fool headedness and personal failure. But the fishing trip gets all mixed up with
too much drinking and a loose woman, and ends up with the narrator in trouble with his wife and
mother in law, for not having taken finer charge of the brother in law. They should have saved him
from his own proclivities for drinking, and cheating on his
It s Every Girl for Herself in Bernice Bobs Her Hair Essay
It s Every Girl for Herself in Bernice Bobs Her Hair

Picture a fragile glass merry go round, a menagerie, if you will, of adolescent social classes and
structure. The animals revolve, always mindlessly following the one in front, each measuring his
own height compared to his neighbors. If you fall short or fall behind, never fear, just throw a
jagged rock and shatter Mr. Popularity in front, take his place, and the merry go round revolves still.
There is no world outside, nothing matters more than this brittle status seeking ambition and the
taboos, requirements, and rewards that come with it. Every action is fair game, whatever it takes to
achieve your supremacy is allowed and accepted. Fitzgerald s Bernice Bobs Her Hair , ... Show more

Marjorie first displays this in her fickle attitude towards men. Regarding Warren, once the object
of her affections, sometimes she seemed to reciprocate his feeling with a faint gratitude, but she
had tried him by her infallible test and informed him gravely that she did not love him. (27);
Warren had singularly been devoted to Marjorie for years, but he failed the test , and, like the
pathetic boys at the dance, she pushed him to the sidelines. The test , interestingly enough, was that
when she was away from him she forgot him and had affairs with other boys. (27). Warren just
couldn t measure up to the competition, and Marjorie, exercising necessary social judgement,
casually is willing to inform him gravely as such. She has no reason not to throw that rock and
shatter his affections, because, after all, she has great heaps of mail... addressed to her in various
masculine handwritings. (27) to fall back on.

Bernice, Marjorie s sorta dopeless (27) cousin enters the scene. Boys reluctantly dance with her,
until finally, what choice do they have but to break out the two by four and await her return, as the
poor girl unsuspectingly occupies the ladies room. Warren strolls up, next in line for the death
sentence named Bernice, and, when asking about the wooden beam, receives The two by four? Oh,
this? This is a club. When she comes out I ll hit her on the head and knock her in again. (28). They
certainly are a sweet bunch. Warren
How Did Pierre Trudeau Change Canada
Just watch me . One of the most popular quotes in all of Canadian history and was said by
Canadian Prime Minister, Pierre Elliott Trudeau. His legacy, attitude, and work transformed Canada
and still continues to do so. Trudeau was the Prime Minister of Canada, from 1968 to 1979 and
from 1980 to 1984. Pierre Trudeauchanged Canadas social political ideology. Canada is now known
to be a diverse, multicultural, bilingual and inclusive nation largely as result of his work. Pierre
Elliott Trudeau also believed in an equal Canada for all, he is primarily the one to introduce rights
and freedoms to the citizens of Canada. While some view Pierre Trudeau as impulsive, for enforcing
the War Measures Act, Trudeau enacted this for protection of Canadian... Show more content on

Trudeau s approach to the situation provided Canadians security and safety. During Trudeau s time
in office, Quebec separatism was becoming an alarming issue. A terrorist organization, Front de
Liberation du Quebec (FLQ), was formed in an effort to separate Quebec from the rest of
Canada. The extremist brought havoc to Quebec and demanded separation from the Anglo
(English speaking). On October 5, 1970, the FLQ kidnapped British trade commissioner James
Cross. They demanded the release of FLQ members, the payment of $500,000, the publication of
the FLQ manifesto and an airplane ticket to either Cuba or Algeria. After, the FLQ went on to
kidnap Quebec Cabinet Minister of Labour and Immigration, Pierre Laporte, on October 10, 1970.
In retaliation and for the security of the people, Trudeau invoked the War Measures Act. The War
Measures Act, called in military personnel in Quebec to restore order, provide security and to help
bring an end to the FLQ. With these circumstance the War Measures Act was appropriate action
taken, as it brings security to the people of Quebec. Furthermore, it is key to remember the FLQ was
a terrorist organization and it was important that Trudeau eliminate the threat they posed to
Canadians. Ricci writes in his novel Pierre Elliott Trudeau, FLQ had been implicated in six deaths
and in more than two hundred bombings in Quebec, including
Coretta Scott King Research Paper
If you ladies are adamant about feminism, realize that Black women have our own movements, such
as Womanism(Alice Walker) Africana Womanism (Cleonora Hudson Weems). Even when it comes
to feminism, we were very active, as a matter fact we invented the feminist movement. Coretta Scott
King not only helped with the Civil Rights Movement she was also active in the feminist movement.
There is Black feminismthat addresses sexism, racism, class. Some great black feminist are bell
hooks, Angela Davis, Audre Lorde, Barbara Smith were among the few. There were organizations
like the Combahee River Collective and NBFO. However, I understand as Black women, we
always felt we must pick one over the other that is a struggle that the women faced during the Civil
Rights Movement and the Women s Right Movement. Many people always tend to avoid this, but
sexism was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some simply don t see it as important as racism not realizing that both intersect when it comes to
Black women. Daniel Ken Holtzclaw did what he did to those women because they were Black
and Women. Sexual abuse is another form of police bruality and it s the second highest after
excessive force. Why did he think he could get away with it ? Due to the Jezebel stereotype,
which revolves around the belief Black women could not be rape victims. Also, he felt entitled to
those women bodies he used his power to take advantage of and degraded those women. I am not
shaming anyone who choose to racism over sexism, because racism is a huge problem that we
need to fight together. Black women on a large scale realize racism that s why we have always and
continue to fight against it. But, we must acknowledge that sexism is also a problem and realize the
ways in which Black women experience it. This is including internalized sexism we must examine
ourselves and realize the ways we perpetrate
Essay about Understanding the Roots of the Word Ruthless
In the popular children s television show Phineas and Ferb, Dr. Doofenshmirtz, the primary
antagonist declares that he is ruthless. [He] has no ruths (19:40). His declaration articulates an
interesting linguistic idiosyncrasy; ruthless currently only operate in various forms of itself (i.e.
ruthlessness, ruthlessly). As many words do, this facet of the word ruthless illuminates various types
of change in the English language over time. To be completely understood, the word ruthless must be
looked at, and then it must be examined in its constituent parts ruth and less. I will also look at the
name Ruth as a variant on the root word ruth. This word demonstrates various aspects of
compounding and the movement of Christianity... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

variations which include minor vowel shifts and the dropping of an aspirated consonant.. As this
entry also suggests, the spellings/variations of rewen and hreow suggest a close relationship to the
word rue, which means Sorrow, distress; repentance; regret or Pity [and] compassion. Rue, and its
variants, first appears in texts with religious connotations (Aelfred s Preface to his translation of
Gregory s Pastoral Care) and Beowulf . Given the context of the first uses of the word ruth and rue,
another possible origin for the word ruth in the English language could stem from a biblical and
Hebrew word. According to Wilkinson, the Hebrew woman s name Ruth is a contraction of the word
reuth (qtd. Zondervan). The name Ruth is generally associated with companionship and
virtuousness. Although in meaning it seems somewhat removed from the sense of ruth meaning
Their Eyes Were Watching God Transformation
In the novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston, Janie has allowed the audience
to better understand the limitations, and emotional challenges that women had to deal with in a
male dominated society. Janie s relationship with her first husband, Logan Killicks, consisted of
tedious, daily routines. Her second husband, Joe Starks, brought her closer to others, than to herself.
In her third and final marriageto Tea Cake, she eventually learned how to live her life on her own.
Janie suffered through many difficult situations that changed her as a person, and her opinion on love.
As a young girl Janie had some romantic bones in her body. Her introduction to love watching a bee

Instead, she extends her energy toward keeping his memory alive. Janie doesn t despair; she picks
herself up, goes home, and passes on her story. Once she reconnects with her best friend, Phoeby, she
explains her new insight on what true love is. In the quote
Dey gointuh make miration cause mah love didn t work lak they love, if dey ever had any. Then
you must tell em dat love ain t somethin lak uh grindstone dat s de same thing everywhere and do
de same thing tuh everything it touch. Love is lak de sea. It s uh movin thing, but still and all, it
takes its shape from de shore it meets, and it s different with every shore (Hurston 191).
Janie lectures Pheoby that love is not the same for everyone who experiences it. Changing from
the beginning of the novel where she was willing to love the first man she comes in contact with.
Instead, it is as fluid and changing as the sea only shaped by the shores, or men it meets. Janie ends
up thanking Tea Cake for giving her the opportunity to experience love and for taking her far beyond
