TECHNOLOGY
-Phone and and its importance
-Can you live a life without your smart phone?
A: Hi there! How are you today? I was thinking, there's a topic
that's been on my mind lately and I wanted to get your
thoughts on it
B: I'm doing well, thanks. I'm glad to hear your question
A: Have you ever thought about how important our phones are
to us?
B: Absolutely. I mean, we use them for everything these days -
from communication to entertainment, and even for managing
our daily schedules.
A: Exactly. It's hard to imagine a life without it now. How about
you?
B: Yeah, it's become an integral part of our lives. I mean, we
even rely on it for navigation, taking photos, and staying
informed about the world around us.
A: And have you ever thought about living a life without your
smart phone?
B: What do you mean? I can't imagine my life without it. It's my
main source of communication and entertainment.
A: I know, but sometimes I feel like our phones control us more
than we control them. It would be interesting to see what life is
like without them.
B: I don't know, I feel like I would be lost without it. How would I
keep in touch with my friends and family?
A: We could still use other means of communication like email,
texting or even calling on a regular phone.
B: But what about all the apps and games? I use my phone to
keep myself entertained.
A: You could find other ways to entertain yourself, like reading
a book, going for a walk or trying a new hobby.
B: I don't know, it seems like a big change. Maybe I'll try to use
my phone less and see how it goes.
A: That's a good start. It's all about finding a balance and not
letting our phones take over our lives.
B: I agree with your point
A: I know what you mean. But at the same time, our phones
have also brought a lot of convenience into our lives. We can
stay connected with people no matter where we are, and have
instant access to information
B: That's true. I just hope we can find a balance between the
benefits and drawbacks of technology. We don't want to
become too dependent on our phones to the point where we
forget how to interact with the world around us
A: Agreed. Our phones are important, but we shouldn't let them
control our lives. We should learn to use them wisely and in
moderation
B: Nice chat, but i'm a bit busy right now, see you next time to
talk more
A:Okay, see u soon bye ….
2. HOBBIES
-Is it important to have a hobby?
-What is your hobby?
A: Hi there! How are you today? I was thinking, there's a topic
that's been on my mind lately and I wanted to get your
thoughts on it
B: I'm doing well, thanks. I'm glad to hear your question
A: Do you think that people need to have a hobby
B: Of course. Hobbies are an essential part of our lives. They
help us relieve stress, find joy, and sometimes even develop
new skills. How about you?
A: That's a good point. For me, hobbies are also very
important. I always try to find time to do things I enjoy, and it
helps me balance my life. That's a good point. What's your
hobby?
B: I like photography. I started learning how to take pictures
when I was in college. I was fascinated by the power of a
photograph to capture a moment in time and tell a story. I
wanted to learn how to take beautiful and meaningful
photographs that would evoke emotions and convey a
message. Photography has also allowed me to explore my
creativity and see the world in a different way.How abou u?
A: That's awesome. I like playing the guitar. I started playing
the guitar when I was 15 years old. I found the sound of the
guitar to be so beautiful and wanted to learn how to create that
sound myself. Playing the guitar has also been a great stress
reliever for me and a way to express my emotions through
music.
B: sounds good to hear you say. I should try playing music too
A: Yeah, I've heard that before. It's great that you find a
musical instrument you love
B:Definitely. What about you? What hobby do you like to try in
the future?
A: I like hiking and camping. Being out in nature is so peaceful
and rejuvenating.
B: That's great! There are so many beautiful hiking trails and
campsites out there to explore.
A: Yeah, I can't wait to plan my next trip.
B: Me too! It's always fun to discover new hobbies and
activities. How about you?
A: Well, I've always been interested in learning how to play the
guitar.
B: That's cool! I see you love everything about music
A: for sure music is my passion and i love everything about it
B: that's great to hear from you
A: It's almost time for piano lessons, I'll prepare to learn it. We'll
talk after I finish my piano lessons
B:okay, study well!!
A:Tks, Have a nice day see u soon
B see u
3. IMPORTANT PEOPLE
Who is the most important person in your life?
Why? What is the most memorable moment that you
remember about him/her?
What is his/her personality?
Person A: Hey, do you mind if I ask you a personal question?
Person B: Sure, what's up?
Person 1: "Have you ever thought about what is the most
important thing in your life?"
Person 2: "Hmm, that's a tough question. I guess it depends on
what stage of life you're in."
Person 1: "Sure, but if you had to pick one thing, what would it
be?"
Person 2: "Well, I think the most important thing in my life is
my family. They've always been there for me, through thick and
thin. They give me love and support, and I know I can always
count on them."
Person 1: "That's a great answer. But what about your career,
or your hobbies? Don't they bring you joy and fulfillment too?"
Person 2: "Of course, they do. But I feel like my family is the
foundation of my life. Without them, I wouldn't have the
courage to pursue my dreams or the resilience to bounce back
from setbacks.How about u?"
Person 1: "I see what you mean. Family is definitely important,
but for me, I think it's personal growth. I believe that we're here
to learn and evolve as human beings, and that requires us to
constantly challenge ourselves and push beyond our comfort
zones."
Person 2: "That's an interesting perspective. But don't you think
that personal growth is something that you can achieve
through your relationships and experiences too?"
Person A: Absolutely Who is the most important person in your
life?
Person B: That's a tough question. I would say my mother is the
most important person in my life.
Person A: Why is that?
Person B: She has always been there for me, no matter what.
She's my biggest supporter and my best friend. I don't know
where I'd be without her. How about you?
A: it's my dad. He's been there for me through thick and thin.
B: Why is that?
A: He's always been a great role model and mentor to me. He's
taught me everything I know about hard work, integrity, and
perseverance.
Person B: That's amazing. What is the most memorable
moment that you remember about him?
Person A There are so many, but one that sticks out is when I
was younger and we went on a camping trip together. It was
just the two of us, and we spent the whole weekend exploring
the wilderness, fishing, and telling stories around the
campfire. It was such a bonding experience, and I'll never
forget it. How about U?
Person B: There are so many, but one that comes to mind is
when I was in high school and I was struggling with some
personal issues. I didn't want to talk to anyone about it, but my
mom somehow knew something was wrong. She took me out
for a walk and we talked for hours. It was the first time I had
really opened up to anyone, and it made me feel so much
better.
Person A: Your mother sounds amazing. What is her personality
like?
Person B: She's kind, compassionate, and strong-willed. She
always puts others before herself and will do anything to help
someone in need. She's also really funny and has a great sense
of humor. I'm really lucky to have her in my life. How about u?
Person A: He's incredibly patient, wise, and compassionate. He
always puts others before himself and will go out of his way to
help someone in need. He's also really funny and has a great
sense of humor. I feel so lucky to have him as my dad.
A: to be honest I have a lot of important people like my dad and
relatives in my family. I love them very much and feel very
happy to live with my family
B Me too, so I hope you and I can study well and often help our
family in our ability to make them less difficult.
A: I agree with you, now I have to clean the house and prepare
the meal, we will have a chance to talk again.
B: I also went to the market for my mother, see you soon, have
a nice day
A: okay bye
4. BIRTH ORDER
- Do you think birth order affect our personalities?
- Are you the oldest/middle/ only child? What are your
personalities?
A: Hi there! How are you today? I was thinking, there's a topic
that's been on my mind lately and I wanted to get your
thoughts on it
B: I'm doing well, thanks. I'm glad to hear your question
Person A: Have you ever thought about how birth order affects
our personalities?
Person B: Yeah, I've heard that it can have an impact on our
traits and behaviors. What do you think?
Person A: I think there might be some truth to it. For example,
oldest children are often responsible and organized because
they had to take care of younger siblings. - Are you the
oldest/middle/ only child?
Person B: That's interesting. I'm actually a middle child, and
I've heard that we're known for being peacemakers and having
good social skills.
Người B: Thật thú vị. Tôi là con trung, và tôi đã nghe nói rằng
chúng ta nổi tiếng là những người hoà giải và có kỹ năng xã hội
tốt.
Person A: Yeah, I've heard that too. Middle children often have
to navigate between older and younger siblings, so they learn
how to compromise and communicate effectively. What about
you? What are your personalities?
Person B: I think I do have good social skills, and I'm pretty
easygoing. I don't like conflict and I try to keep everyone
happy.How abut u?
Person A: That makes sense. I'm actually the youngest child,
and I've heard that we're often seen as more outgoing and
creative.
B: Yeah, I can see that. Youngest children don't have as many
responsibilities, so they can be more carefree and
adventurous. What do you think about birth order and
careers? Do you think certain jobs are better suited for certain
birth orders?
A: Hmm, that's an interesting question. I think oldest children
might be well-suited for leadership positions because they're
used to taking charge and being responsible. But I also think
that birth order is just one factor among many that can
influence our career paths. How about you?
B: Yeah, I agree. It's not a hard and fast rule, but it's definitely
something to consider. Thanks for chatting with me about this!
Person A: It's hard to say for sure, but I think it might have
played a role. Of course, there are other factors that can shape
our personalities too, like our genetics and life experiences. But
it's interesting to think about how our family dynamics might
have influenced who we are today. Thanks for sharing with me
B: Don’t worry but I'm so sorry, I had a dinner date with my
family, see you later
A: Wish you enjoy your meal, see u
5. YOUR CHILDHOOD
- A vacation you went in the past.
-A TV program you used to like watching in the past.
A: Hi, is that nguyen thi kieu vy? It's been so long since we last
spoke!
B: Oh my gosh, hi! How have you been?
A: I've been good, thanks. How about you?
B: I've been doing well too, thanks for asking. It's so great to
hear from you after all these years.
A: Yeah, it really has been a while. So what have you been up
to lately?
B: Well, I finished university a few years ago and started
working in marketing. How about you?
A: I actually just got a promotion at my job. I'm now managing
a team in the finance department.
B: Wow, that's great news! Congrats on the promotion.
A: Do you remember any vacations we took in the past?
B: Yes, I remember when we went to Japan a few years ago. It
was such an amazing trip.
A: Oh wow, I remember that too! What was your favorite part of
the vacation?
B: Definitely visiting Tokyo Disneyland. It was so much fun and
there were so many rides and attractions.
A: Yes, I remember how excited we were to go there. And what
about the food? Do you remember trying any new dishes?
B: Oh yes, I loved the sushi and ramen we had. And we even
got to try some traditional Japanese sweets too.
A: That's awesome. Speaking of childhood memories, do you
remember the cartoon show Doraemon that we used to watch?
B: Of course I do! I loved watching that show after school. It
was always so fun and adventurous. How about u?
A: Yes, I remember always being amazed by all the futuristic
gadgets that Doraemon had. Which was your favorite?
B: Hmm, that's a tough one. I think I really liked the Anywhere
Door, because it was so cool to be able to travel anywhere
instantly.
A: Yeah, that was definitely one of my favorites too. It's funny
how even as adults, we still remember and talk about the
things we enjoyed during our childhood.
B: Definitely. Those memories will always be special to us.
A: Haha, yeah, those were some interesting times. But it's
always great to reminisce about the past and catch up with old
friends.
B: Absolutely, I couldn't agree more. Let's make sure we don't
lose touch again this time.
A: My company is having an urgent meeting, are you free this
weekend, if possible, let's have a coffee
B: no problem, see you at the weekend
6. Future plans for a vacation.
A: Hi. Long time no see. How’s it going?
B: Oh hi! I’m doing well. It’s been a while.
A: Yah. We haven’t met since I moved to HCM City. I miss our
time together.
B: So do I. What about going for a vacation next weekend?
A: Just us? I think it will be fun if we go with our friends. Do you
have any plans for it?
B: Yeh. Let’s go to Vung Tau beach. I really wanna taste some
seafood like crabs, lobsters, sea urchins…
A: Sounds interesting. I’d like to collect shells on the seaside.
B: And build a wonderful sand castle?
A: That’s great. Guess what? I’m in my office volleyball team.
So can we play beach volleyball there? I really wanna try to
play volleyball on the beach.
B: Sure. The sunset is very stunning in this season.
A: We will sit on the beach and watch the sunset. But how will
we get there?
B: It’s about 100 kilometers from HCM City to Vung Tau
City. We can get there by my car and then rent a
motorbike to go to the beach.
A: I think we should rent a homestay. We can cook ourselves
and have a great time there.
B: Good idea. Let’s check our schedules and invite our friends
to join us. I can’t wait. It’s been a long time I haven’t gone on a
vacation. I had a hard time living in a big city like HCM City.
A: The sea is a good way to cool off. I’m pretty sure all your
stress will be relieved after this trip. I had read some comments
about Vung Tau beach before, most of these are good with high
ratings.
B: Hope so.
A: Perfect. I’m so excited. I have an appointment so I have to
go now.
B: Ok see you. Let’s discuss it clearly when we’re home.
A: Sure. Good bye. See you.
B: Byeeeee.
6. Future plans for a career
A: Hello B, how are you ?
B: I’m doing good. And how about you ?
A: Fine. We are in intermediate class. So we must choose our
career now.
B: You are quite right. Success in life depends on the right
choice of career.
A: We must choose our career properly. May I know your choice
of career?
B: Yes, of course. I have decided to become a doctor. Do you
like this profession?
A: Yes I do. It is a good profession. Could you tell me why you
have chosen this profession?
B: I want to serve the people. I want to help them recover and
improve their well-being. It can’t be denied that I will have a
good salary too.
A: Are you willing to go to the villagers if necessary?
B: Yes, of course. There is a shortage of good doctors in our
country. The people who live in the villages cannot consult a
good doctor. And my dad will be proud of me. Could you tell me
about your choice of career?
A: Of course. I wanna be a teacher.
B: Nice.
A: I will get myself admitted into an Educational University. I
will go back to my hometown and work there. I wanna live near
my parents to take care of them.
B: It’s a noble profession too.
A: Other than parents, teachers have arguably the biggest
influence on a child's life. I’ll teach my students with the newest
teaching methods and inspire the next generation. I think that
teaching will also give me opportunities to be a lifelong learner.
B: I appreciate your plan.
A: Choosing career is not enough. We must work hard to fulfill
our plan.
B: Of course .Thank you . It was really nice talking to you.
A: You’re welcome. Good bye. See you again.
B: Bye.
7.Living in country/city
A: Hi. Long time no see. How’s it going?
B: Oh hi! I’m doing well. It’s been a while.
A: Yah. We haven’t met since you moved to HCM City. How do
you like living in a big city?
B: I like it so much more than living in the country. There are
many things that make it better.
A: Oh, really? Can you give me some examples?
B: Well, it certainly is more interesting out in the city than it is
in the country. There is so much more to do and see! You don’t
need to look for any kinds of entertainment because they are
everywhere. Only thing you need to do is make choices.
A: Yes, but the city is more dangerous than the country.
B: That's true. People in the city aren't as open and friendly as
those in the countryside, and the streets aren't as safe. Traffic
in the city is renowned for how nightmarish it can be.
A: I'm sure that the country is more relaxed, too! The
atmosphere is very fresh since there are lots of trees. You will
have better access to nature.
B: Yes, the city is busier than the country. That’s why the city
provides us better job opportunities. The city’s transportation
system makes our life so convenient.
A: How about the cost of living? Is the country cheaper than the
city?
B: Oh, yes. Living in the city is more expensive than in the
country.
A: I think so. Less populated areas tend to have lower costs of
living.
B: Yeh but I still like living in the city.
A: I think you are crazy for moving to the city.
B: Well, I'm young now. Maybe when I'm married and have
children I'll move back to the country.
A: If you’re tired of living with the frustrations of city life, you
may consider country living as a solution. Living in the country
gives you more space from people and often a greater sense of
peace.
8.Good luck and bad luck
A: Hi. Are you OK? You look so upset.
B: Oh hi. I had such a really bad day.
A: What happened?
B: Today I had an English exam. I woke up very early in the
morning and prepared all the things to go to school. But guess
what? When I was on the way to school, my bike was suddenly
broken.
A: Oh no! But when did the exam start?
B: The exam started at 7:30 but it was 7:20 now. I was so
panicked.
A: So how did you handle this situation?
B: I left my bike in front of the store nearby and ran fast to
school. But I was still late. I have to retake the exam alone
tomorrow.
A: I’m pretty sure you can do it well. I was in the same situation
but unfortunately I got a 0 and no chance to retake. I was 30
minutes late, haha.
B: Great experience, right? Thank you for lending me an ear. I
feel better now. But do you believe that people can create their
own luck?
A: In my view, we all are lucky but it’s up to us, because “A
man always gets whatever he strives for”.
B: You mean we can get anything if we put effort into it?
A: Yeh. That’s what I think. And avoiding negative thoughts is a
kind of creating luck. Don’t let the negative words affect your
mindset. How do you think?
B: I read a research about how positive thinking can improve
our luck before. They don’t believe magic makes good things
happen. Instead, they believe it is an attribute or a
characteristic they have. In turn, this leads to positive thinking.
A: That’s why I don’t believe much about lucky things like
clovers, coins…
B: That’s true. So I need to study now to create my own luck
tomorrow.
A: Break a leg.
9.Money and happiness
A: Hi. Long time no see. How’s it going?
B: Oh hi! I’m doing well. It’s been a while.
A: Yah. We haven’t met since you moved to HCM City. What do
you do for a living?
B: I’m a nurse in a city private hospital now. And you?
A: I own a flower store in our village. But something happened
yesterday that made me really upset.
B: What happened?
A: My employee stole the money and ran away.
B: Did you call the police?
A: No. I didn’t. It’s not a lot of money but it made me lose my
faith. Is money really the root of all evil?
B: That’s terrible. Some people can do anything because of
money.
A: What a shame! I don’t think money can bring us all the
happiness in the world. So we shouldn’t get money at all cost.
Money is important but not the most important thing in life.
B: Since I worked in the hospital, I have realized that our lives
are much more important than money. You cannot ask money
to bring you happiness if you have a poor health.
A: I think so. That’s why I donate a part of my income to a
charitable organization every year. And also save a bit for
difficult times.
B: So do I. I haven’t spent much money on shopping since last
year and have saved a bit. Money can’t be there for you when
you’re upset or give you confidence when you’re feeling down,
it can only buy you things to distract you for a while. No matter
how much money you have, you can never replace the love you
get from friends and family.
A: Yeh. We’re still young but I think saving will help us and our
family afterwards. I also really want to go on a vacation with
my parents.
B: I see. It’s so nice talking to you today. Let’s keep in touch.
A: Sure.
10.Have you ever wasted money?
A: Hi. Are you OK? You look so upset.
B: I was scolded by my mom since I bought new shoes
yesterday. It’s just a pair of shoes, why did my mom have to be
so strict like that?
A: Oh. But you have tons of shoes at home right?
B: Uhh, yes.
A: Did you think money that you spent on your new shoes is a
waste?
B: Those shoes look absolutely fantastic!!!! I want to collect
every nice shoes I see.
A: I think those shoes look great too, but you shouldn’t buy this
much since you can’t even wear all of them.
B: Hmm…So have you ever wasted money?
A: Yes. I know a lot of people who have the same issue. I
bought a lot of junk food until I gained weight uncontrollable
last year.
B: What happened then? I can see that you have a good look
now.
A: At that time, I was very insecured about my appearance. I
realized that it was a waste buying so much junk food. So I was
determined to be on a diet. Guess what? My health was getting
better and better. I also saved a bit of money after that.
B: Sounds great. I’m so thrilled for you. I just thought those
shoes were nice and nothing else. I didn’t realize that it was a
waste. My mom is just an officer. Oh I feel so guilty. What
should I do now? I can’t return the shoes.
A: No worries. Just apologize to your mom and beg for her
pardon. She will understand and sympathize with you.
B: Thank you, I will do that. Thank you for sharing your
experience. I really appreciate that. I didn’t think I wasted this
much of money all of this time.
A: You’re welcome.
10.Have you ever cheated in class?
A: Hi. Long time no see. How’s it going?
B: Oh hi! I’m doing well. It’s been a while.
A: Yah. We haven’t met since you transferred to another
school. There were many things that happened in our old
school.
B: Wow. So what happened?
A: Before I tell you, can I ask you a question?
B: Sure. Go ahead.
A: Have you ever cheated in class?
B: Hmm…So awkward but yes. I first cheated when I was in
grade four. This is an unforgettable memory.
A: How did it go?
B: This was an ordinary morning. But I had no idea about the
Maths exam I was about to take. I literally did nothing the night
before. I still remember how nervous I felt at that moment.
A: That’s terrible. How did you overcome that? Did you decide
to cheat?
B: Haha you’re right. I made a decision to take a risk. I didn’t
want to get any bad marks. My mom would kill me.
A: What did you do?
B: I wrote the Maths formulas in my leg and stole a glance
when the teacher wasn’t around. My heart beat so fast at that
moment but I did it. I got enough to pass that exam.
A: How funny haha.
B: How about you? Have you ever cheated in class?
A: That’s what I’m about to tell you. I have never cheated in
class but my best friend did. She did it in the same way as you
but unfortunately she got caught by the teacher and was
suspended for 2 weeks.
B: I feel so bad for her.
A: Yeh. But I don’t think cheating is a good idea for students.
Do you think so?
B: Sure. Cheating is never encouraged not only in education but
also in our life.
A: Yes. That’s really unfair.
B: You’re right. It’s very nice talking to you. Oh I have a
meeting so I have to go now. See you.
A: See you.
10. EXPERIENCE
-"Have you ever" questions:
+ Have you ever wasted money?
+Have your ever cheated in class?
+ Have you ever thought of living in another country?
-What is the most intersting movie you have watched?
A: Hi there! How are you today? I was thinking, there's a topic
that's been on my mind lately and I wanted to get your
thoughts on it
B: I'm doing well, thanks. I'm glad to hear your question
A: Have you ever wasted money?
B: Yeah, I have. I remember one time I bought this really
expensive jacket that I thought would look cool, but I ended up
never wearing it.
A: Oh wow, how much did you spend on it?
B: It was around $300. Looking back, it was definitely not worth
it.How about u?
A: Yeah, I have. I once bought an expensive piece of clothing
that I only wore once and then it just sat in my closet
collecting dust.
B: it's okay, you can sell it cheaply to those in need
A: oh, tks, I try do it. Have you ever cheated in class?
B: No, I haven't. I've always believed in working hard and
earning my grades honestly.
A: That's great to hear. Cheating can have serious
consequences and it's always best to do things the right way.
B: Yeah, I agree. What about you, have you ever cheated in
class?
A: I have to admit, I did cheat once on a math test back in
middle school. But I felt so guilty afterwards that I never did it
again.
B: That's understandable. It's important to learn from our
mistakes and make better choices in the future.
A: Definitely. Hey, have you ever thought of living in another
country?
B: Yeah, actually I have. I've always been interested in
immersing myself in different cultures and learning new
languages.
A: That's really cool. Do you have any countries in mind?
B: I've been thinking about maybe living in Japan or South
Korea for a while. How about you, have you ever considered
living abroad?
A: Yes, I have. I actually lived in Spain for a year after college
and it was an amazing experience. I would love to live abroad
again someday.
B: Wow, that sounds incredible. What did you like most about
living in Spain?
A: I loved the food, the culture, and the opportunity to learn
Spanish. It was also really cool to travel around Europe and see
all the different countries.
B: That sounds like an unforgettable experience. Thanks for
sharing with me.
A: Hey, have you watched any good movies lately?
B: Yeah, I watched the latest Detective Conan movie, "The
Scarlet Bullet". It was amazing!
A: Oh, I haven't watched any of the Detective Conan movies
yet. I'm more of a Doraemon fan myself. I recently watched the
movie "Stand by Me Doraemon 2".
B: Really? I've never watched any Doraemon movies. What's it
about?
A: It's about Nobita and Doraemon's friendship throughout the
years, and how their bond continues even when Nobita is all
grown up.
B: That sounds like a heartwarming story. I might have to check
it out sometime.
A: You definitely should. And you should also watch some of the
Detective Conan movies. They're full of action and mystery,
and Conan is such a cool character.
