Millennium Development Goals

In September 2000 representative from 189 countries at the Millennium Summit in


New Work to adopt the United States Millennium Declaration.

It aims to bring peace, security and development to all people. The MDG drawn
from the Millennium Declaration are a ground breaking international agenda for
the 21st Century to which all nations are committed. The MDG outlined major
development priorities to be achieved by 2015.

Numerical target were set for each goals to be monitored through 48 indicators.

There are 8 goals, 18 targets and 48 indicators. Out of these 3 goals (Goal 4, 5, 6) 8
targets and 18 indicators are directly health related.

1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger

2. Achieve universal primary education

3. Promote gender equality and empower women

4. Reduce child mortality

5. Improve maternal health

6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases

7. Ensure environmental sustainability

8. Develop a global partnership for development
