Cardagao, Angelica De veyra, Roselle Juanitez and Christine Khaye Tismo with the Guidance
of their research instructor, Dr. Jett C. Quebec.
This study determines the reason of the students’ tardiness using Qualitative Research
Design and the data was analyzed using thematic analysis; hence it was, suitable for encoding
Qualitative Information. Fifteen (15) students from Burauen Community College chosen as
participants of the study on the following criteria: (1) must be men and women; (2) must be
students in BCC; and (3) must be first year criminology students. The data were gathered
through in depth-interview only. The study endeavor to gain a deeper understanding of their
reasons, and challenges they encountered and the effect of tardiness they would like to
express.
We developed (9) theme and divided into (3) roman numerals. I. Reason for being late
attendance on their 7 AM classes: (a.) Transportation; (b.) Difficulties in managing their time;
(c.) Illness; II. Effect of tardiness to the first year BCC criminology students: (a.) Poor
learning process; (b.) Low academic performance; (c.) Self-disappointment; III. Coping
strategies of tardiness; (a.) Moving the 7 AM class to 8 AM; (b.) Be a responsible student; (c.)
The school should conduct an orientation.
Moreover, upon findings of the responses of the participants, the researchers,
contribute the effect of tardiness to the first-year BCC criminology students and provide a
viii
foundation for future research and strategies to cope up with tardiness to solve the problem
among the first-year BCC criminology students.
