Table 1. Revision history

Revision Date Description of change
March 2025 Rev 1.0 initial revision for 3.8.1.4.

Product description
This section provides a high-level overview of the ECS Appliance and ECS Software products. For additional ECS
documentation resources, see Dell Support.

About ECS
ECS provides a complete software-defined cloud storage platform that supports the storage, manipulation, and analysis of
unstructured data on a massive scale on commodity hardware. You can deploy ECS as a turnkey storage appliance or as a
software product that is installed on qualified commodity servers and disks.

New features
No new features were introduced in ECS 3.8.1.4.

1
Changed features
No features were changed in ECS 3.8.1.4.

Resolved issues
The section lists issues that are resolved in this release:

Table 2. Resolved issues

Issue Description of issues fixed in ECS 3.8.1.4
OBSDEF-61102 This fix resolves an issue where the ECS storage manager service would create too many logs.
OBSDEF-62875 This fix resolves an issue where the communicator latency from dataheadsvc to blobsvc is too
high.
OBSDEF-64666 This fix resolves an issue where a backlog of invalid metadata cleanup tasks that cannot be removed
delays garbage collection .
STORAGE-36283 This fix resolves an issue where deleting a file system bucket from the user interface with the option
to automatically delete the contents would fail if the group or user does not have write permissions.

Known issues
The section lists the known issues for this release of ECS.

Installation and Upgrade Considerations
ECS Appliance and Software installations and upgrades must be performed by Dell personnel. For more information about how
to schedule an installation or upgrade, contact Dell Support.
When installing or upgrading, the preferred method of connecting to ECS is remotely through Secure Remote Services. Remote
upgrades can be performed using WebEx sessions. For sites with no outside connection, upgrades must be scheduled with Dell
Support to come onsite.
For more information about the upgrade process, see the ObjectScale/ECS Upgrade Guide.
