CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
In the realm of education, the K-12 curriculum serves as a fundamental
framework that shapes the academic journey of students, particularly those in
grade XI. This research delves into the exploration of the advantages inherent in
the K-12 education curriculum from the unique perspective of grade XI students.
By delving into their experiences and perceptions, this study aims to uncover
valuable insights into how the K-12 system impacts their academic development,
career preparedness, and overall educational experience. Drawing upon the
perspectives of grade XI students, this research seeks to contribute to the
ongoing discourse on K-12 education and its significance in shaping the
educational landscape.
Furthermore, according to the perspective of grade XI students globally,
the K–12 school curriculum offers a number of advantages that affect students'
academic development and future opportunities. The K–12 system is intended to
improve education quality by giving pupils an extensive education and the
knowledge and abilities they need to succeed in both the workforce and higher
education (Joan F. 2014). It has been shown that implementing the K–12
curriculum increases students' competitiveness in the workforce marketplace,
aligns them with global standards, and prepares them for college and future work
opportunities (Barodis, 2019). Also, the longer education period enables a more
in-depth discussion of difficulties, guaranteeing a greater understanding of topics
and greater preparedness for challenges in the actual world (Patricia F. 2020). In
spite of improving students' academic preparedness, this moves toward a more
comprehensive approach to education gives them the real-world experience and
capabilities they will need for their futures as professionals and global citizens
(Marilyn, et al. 2019).
In addition, students in grade XI in the Philippines have benefited greatly
from the implementation of the K–12 curriculum, which has addressed a number
of problems with the current educational system. Enough time for instruction is a
major advantage as it helps pupils become more prepared for all subjects and
boosts their overall performance in school. Also, the K–12 curriculum's focus on
learners encourages students to participate more actively in their education,
which improves engagement and information gain. Plus, K–12 students are seen
as more capable and skilled, with job-related abilities that make them marketable
even without having completed college, adding to the workforce and production
of the country. Furthermore, by conforming to international education standards,
making recognition overseas easier and removing the need for additional
curriculum to meet standards internationally, the K–12 system counts Filipino
graduates as professionals and global citizens (Arnikan A. 2023).
The purpose of the research study is to look into the major advantages
that the K–12 education curriculum offers in terms of improving students'
academic growth, skill development, and future preparation. The study will focus
on the advantages of the curriculum from the perspective of grade XI students.
The K–12 system seeks to promote independence and mastery of basics like
reading and writing while also building a solid foundation in important topics and
abilities including math, science, language, and social sciences. The K–12
curriculum also addresses practical, financial, and health-related challenges to
school so that every student can have access to a high-quality education. In
addition, the system gives students the tools they need to succeed in a
competitive international job market, helps them become knowledgeable about
technology for the modern workforce, and helps them develop social skills
through interaction and teamwork (Antara H. 2023).
Research Objectives
This research aims to explore and analyze the advantages of k-12
education curriculum from the perspective of Grade XI students. This study
seeks to identify, understand, and evaluate the specific benefits that Grade 11
students perceive in the K-12 system, exploring how this educational framework
impacts their academic growth, career readiness, and overall educational
experience.
1.Assess the impact of the K-12 education curriculum on Grade 11 students'
academic performance and educational experiences, focusing on enhancing
basic skills such as reading, writing, and math proficiency.
2.Investigate the role of the K-12 curriculum in promoting a learner-centered
approach and enhancing student engagement in the learning process among
Grade 11 students.
Statement of the Problem
In this research endeavor, I am driven to delve into the realm of K-12
education curriculum through the eyes of grade 11 students. The primary
objective is to unravel the advantages inherent in the K-12 system as perceived
by students at this pivotal stage of their educational journey. By focusing on the
unique perspective of grade 11 students, this study aims to illuminate the impact
of the K-12
1.What are the advantages of K12 Schooling?
2. What are the perspective of Grade XI Students towards K-12?
3.What impact does K12 Curriculum has on the Academic life of Grade XI
Students?
Conceptual Framework
The conceptual framework is a group of related ideas, statement or
concepts. It can be used in different fields of work and is most commonly used to
visually explain the key concepts or variables and the relationships between
them that need to be studied. The term conceptual model is often used to inter
change able with conceptual framework and sometimes with grand theories that
articulate a broad range of the significant relationship among the concepts of a
discipline (Barbara, 2018).
The diagram illustrated in Figure 1 that shows the variable of the study.
Specifically, it includes the advantages of k-12 education curriculum on the
perspective of grade XI students in Nicolas B. Barreras National High School.

Figure 1. Conceptual Framework
Theoritical Framework
This study is supported by the theory of Dewey's Progressivism (1938) in K-12
education is a student-centered approach that emphasizes experiential learning
and real-world problem-solving. However, according to the theory of John Dewey
(1916), an American philosopher, psychologist, and educational reformer,
believed that education should be a process of growth and development, where
students actively construct knowledge through hands-on experiences and
experimentation. He advocated for the integration of subjects and the use of
practical activities to engage students in learning, rather than relying solely on
traditional lecture-based methods. This approach encourages students to take an
active role in their own learning and fosters critical thinking, creativity, and
collaboration.
Significance of the Study
This study was beneficial to the following:
The students. It helped them to discover a lot of things and become more
knowledgeable.
The teachers. The teachers improved their teaching effectiveness by providing
insights and strategies for K-12 instruction, leading to greater student success.
The parents. This research helped parents make informed decisions about their
children's education.
The future researchers. This research can be a guide to the future researchers.
The school administration. It helped school administration improve educational
practices and decision-making within the K-12 framework.
Scope and Delimitation
This study will be conducted to Ten (10) Grade XI Students enrolled in Nicolas B.
Barreras National High School during the year 2023-2024.
Definition of Terms
Defining important terms is essential to ensure a common understanding
of key concepts and terminology to be shared between the thesis author and the
audience, particularly if the term is unusual or not widely known. Hence, for the
sake of clarity and better understanding, the following terms will be conceptually.
Advantages conceptually, refers to the benefits of K-12 education curriculum
system implementation such as improved academic performance, student
engagement, and better, preparation for higher education or the workforce
(Mariel U. 2023).
Curriculum conceptually, refers to the lessons and academic content taught in a
school or in a specific course or program. Operationally, refers to the Grade XI
curriculum program (John D. et al. 1902)
Educational Quality conceptually, refers to the overall effectiveness and
comprehensiveness of the K-12 education curriculum system, which includes
curriculum design, teaching methods, infrastructure, and student outcomes
(UNICEF, 2000).
CHAPTER II
REVIEW ON RELATED LITERATURE
This study reviews related literature on the advantages of k-12 schooling
and provides essential background for the study.
Learners' basis for mental, social, emotional, and physical development is
built by their K–12 education. Access to excellent schools, mental growth, social
and emotional maturity, and physical well-being are all supported by a
comprehensive system. Based on Dr. Abdullah Kammani (2023) K–12 education
guarantees that students graduate as well-rounded persons with the abilities
needed to achieve success in higher education, careers, and life in general by
supporting these numerous areas of development.
However, recognizing all of the advantages of K-12 schooling provides the
students in the 21st century is the goal of academic research on this topic. And
besides enhancing students' foundation in basic subjects and abilities, K–12
education develops social skills, relevant knowledge, and prepares them for a
competitive international job search (Nitin Sharma, 2023). According to Rebecca
S. & David S. (2018) by exploring the benefits of K–12 schooling, scholars want
to attract attention to the ways in which this system gives kids the technological,
collaborative, and critical thinking abilities needed to achieve success in a range
of areas of life, including academics, careers, and personal well-being.
Historical Overview of K-12 Education
Numerous improvements have resulted from the schooling system's
progress, such as giving every kid access to a high-quality education,
encouraging social skills, and preparing them to enter a highly competitive
international workforce (Nitin Sharma, 2023). Based on Michael W. Kirst, (2010)
the educational system has seen increases in the use of technology, enhanced
learning opportunities, and stronger connections between academics and real-
world applications. According to Brajesh P. et al. (2022) the K–12 system has
also become more welcoming by solving issues like learning inequality and
economic status difficulties. In general, the K–12 system keeps adjusting to meet
the changing needs of society and students.
Furthermore, the historical background that has influenced K–12
education in various areas is a reflection of a complicated evolution influenced by
political, social, and economic factors. Even though more people have access to
K–12 education worldwide, issues still exist, such as the millions of kids who are
not attending school, especially in areas of poverty. The transition from the
industrial revolution to the knowledge economy has presented the K–12 industry
with additional issues, highlighting the importance of content relevance and the
requirement for educators to move through an increasing body of knowledge
inside inflexible frameworks (Michael W. Kirst, 2010). As time passed, K–12
education has evolved, bringing with it new education, teaching strategies, and
curriculum design improvements. But there have been obstacles along the way,
including overloaded curriculum and, in some cases, poor learning outcomes.
External factors have contributed to the evolution of K–12 education, resulting in
curricular changes and a focus on enhancing learning outcomes through
investment in buildings, skilled labor, and supportive familial environments
(Brajesh P. et al. (2022).
Benefits of K-12 Education for Student Development
As stated by Abdullah Kammani, (2023) through providing age-appropriate
learning experiences, promoting multiple aspects of an individual's growth, and
supporting students' development across many different areas, K–12 education
promotes students' mental, social, and emotional growth. To be more specific, As
mentioned by Nitin Sharma, (2023) K–12 education promotes mental and social
growth by providing opportunities for students to connect with teachers and
peers, which improves networking, communication, and critical thinking abilities.
Also, K–12 education encourages emotional growth by establishing a secure and
welcoming learning environment that develops emotional intelligence, self-
awareness, and resilience. This gives students the emotional tools they need to
overcome difficulties, form enduring relationships, and maintain a positive sense
of self (Patricia F. 2020).
Also, K–12 education gives kids a strong foundation in important topics,
promotes social and emotional development, and introduces them to a variety of
career directions, all of which help them prepare for higher education and future
employment opportunities (Abdullah Kammani, 2023). In along with teaching
students to a wide range of subjects and courses to meet their unique interests
and professional goals, the K–12 system helps them develop critical thinking,
problem-solving, and analytical abilities. Also, K–12 education provides kids with
the necessary life skills to succeed in the real world, such as financial literacy,
career planning, and effective communication (Laura J. 2020).
Role of Technology in Enhancing K-12 Education
As indicated by Rebecca T. (2023) technology integration improves
academic performance and student engagement in K–12 schools by ensuring
that all students have fair access to learning opportunities and preparing them for
success in both school and the workplace. Effective technology integration
improves student choice, improves student-to-student connection, and expands
the range of options available to students. Using digital tools to increase student-
to-student connection, letting students select their preferred learning style, and
using digital tools to track student engagement are a few examples of effective
technology integration. Also, the use of technology promotes active learning
through engaging activities and individualized instruction, which meets each
student's specific needs. In the end, introducing technology into K–12 classrooms
creates a more exciting and effective learning environment that is helpful to
students as well as teachers (Sarah S. K. et al. 2023).
In addition, personalized learning possibilities, enhanced collaboration and
communication, higher educational quality, and engaging lessons that engage
students' curiosity are just a few advantages of adding technology into the K–12
curriculum (Rebecca T. 2023). On the authority of Daniel F. (2020) technology
integration speeds up learning, increases student engagement, makes goods
simple to find, and creates enjoyable practice opportunities. It gives students the
chance to learn about new topics, comprehend difficult ideas better, and learn
vital 21st-century skills that will be useful in their future careers. Still, there are
disadvantages to technological integration, such as longer screen times, possible
harm to students' health, financial strain on schools, and the requirement for
professional development for ensuring successful implementation of technology
in the classroom. Despite these difficulties, using technology in K–12 schools has
more positive effects than negative ones because it increases student
engagement, enhances learning outcomes, and gets kids ready for a world
where technology is everywhere (Jennifer L. H. et al. 2021).
Foreign Studies
The K–12 educational landscape worldwide includes a wide variety of
systems and methodologies that are customized to the values, resources, and
objectives of individual countries. As demonstrated by Samandeep S. (2023) the
focus can shift from the sciences and math to the arts and humanities in different
countries, and there are considerable differences in class sizes, curriculum,
teaching styles, and assessment methods. Developed countries often place a
high value on K–12 education, emphasizing creative curriculum that emphasize
digital literacy, ability to solve problems, and critical thinking. Qualified educators
also play an essential part in this context. On the other hand, developing nations
often deal with concerns like limited access because of financial limitations, a
shortage of teachers and schools, and social and cultural variables like penury or
health problems that limit the advancement of education (Samandeep S. 2023).
The implementation of K–12 in different countries has had positive as well
as negative impacts on educational institutions. As stated by Patricia F. (2020)
the longer primary and secondary school years provided by the K–12 system
enable more in-depth topic discussions and subject coverage, which improves
educational quality. Nonetheless, difficulties have been identified, including the
first uncertainty that has recently established systems, changes to textbooks and
curriculum materials, and worries about higher school costs as a result of the
longer schooling term. Despite these difficulties, the K–12 system tries to better
prepare kids for higher education, the workforce, and adult responsibilities by
offering opportunities for unique learning paths and a more organized
educational progression (Dr. Patricia F. 2020).
However, K–12 international schools provide an extensive education with
a range of advantages, including cultural diversity, customized methods of
instruction, language skills enhancement, extracurricular activities, character
education, developing critical thinking abilities, preparing students for college and
careers, exposure to different educational environments worldwide, international
networking opportunities, community involvement, adaptability training, and the
development of global ability. According to Raymond J. (2023) these schools
prioritize fostering well-rounded, globally ready students through an educational
strategy that extends beyond school.
Local Studies
The Philippines' K–12 educational system was put into place to improve it
and bring it into line with international standards. The curriculum attempts to
produce more proficient students with the basic skills needed for both career and
lifetime study. Also, it encourages cooperation between Filipino professionals
and students abroad, ensuring that they have the abilities needed to fulfill the
needs of the international marketplace. Furthermore, There have been difficulties
in the Philippines' K–12 program's implementation, including the requirement that
educators get instruction, research on education, evaluation and measurement,
and classroom management education. Also, based on Marilyn, et al. (2019) the
government has not provided enough funding to help educators of junior and
senior high school, let alone implement the new curriculum.
However, most Filipino graduates, the K–12 program has proven helpful
despite these difficulties. It has given students enough time in class to complete
assignments linked to their subjects, which has improved their preparation over
the entire class. Also, as mentioned by Arnikan A., (2023) the program has
enabled students to focus in an area of interest, preparing them for certain job-
related abilities after graduation. In Addition, Numerous opinions have been
expressed by educators, parents, and students regarding the implementation of
the K-12 curriculum in the Philippines. While some have lauded the initiative for
its potential for improving educational standards, other expressed concerns
about the challenges it brings (Fernan Q. 2022)
Overall , the Philippines' K–12 educational system has made an important
contribution to raising educational standards and getting students ready for the
global marketplace. But it has also encountered difficulties that must be resolved
in order to ensure its success.
CHAPTER III
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This chapter discusses the research design, locale, respondents,
instruments, data collection, ethical consideration, and statistical analysis
methods used to investigate the problem.
Research Design
This study used the qualitative descriptive study research design to
accurately depict a population chosen for a specific characteristic and aimed to
gather information about the advantages of k-12 education curriculum.
Research Locale
The study was carried out at Nicolas B. Barreras National High School,
which has been serving the Municipality of Polomolok in the Province of South
Cotabato for 30 years. The school offers basic education at the junior high school
level, and at present, it is also providing senior high school education in
compliance with the K-12 basic education program of the Philippine government.
The study was specifically focused on the Senior High School program of the
Basic Education Department.

was avoided and sources were properly referenced. No conflicts of interest were
present in this research.
CHAPTER IV
PRESENTATION AND ANALYSIS OF DATA
In this chapter, researchers presented the data gathered from the conducted
interview among Grade XI students.
Table 1. Do you believe that the K-12 education system prepares students
for higher education and future careers?
INFORMANTS RESPONSES
1 Yes, I believe it can really help me especially when I am about
to go to college and I don't want to experience culture shock.
2 Yes, I agree. Senior high school has many subjects related to
college, so it can really help me in that way to prepare for
college.
I agree. K-12 is helpful because it allows students to receive
3
more advanced in-depth education, which can help prepare
them for college. There may be students who are not yet ready
for college level studies, but k to 12 can help them get there.
I agree that making decay to 12 curriculum mandatory in high
4
school can help prepare students for college and beyond. It
gives them an extra two years to get acquainted with college
level material and gain new skills, which can be valuable in the
long run.
Yes, I agree. The k to 12 curriculum is a great way to prepare
5
students for college by giving them a solid foundation in
academic subject and teaching them important skills for their
future careers.
6 k to 12 is designed to provide a comprehensive and integrated
education that includes a wide wide range of subjects, including
the basic essentials that are needed for college or higher
education. By preparing students with the necessary skills and
knowledged, k to 12 aims to provide smoother transition to
higher education and beyond.
7 Yes, k to 12 provides a comprehensive education that prepares
students for college and career success. It provides a
foundation in basic skills and subjects, as well as opportunities
to explore different areas of study and develop important skills
such as time management and critical thinking.
8 For me yes, the k to 12 curriculum provides students with a
solid foundation in academic subjects, as well as opportunities
to explore different areas of study and develop important skills
like critical thinking and problem solving. It also prepares
students for college and careers by helping them build the
knowledge and skills they need to success.
As seen in table 1, the majority of informants in grade XI believed on the K-
12 education curriculum. They said that K-12 education curriculum can provide to
them a higher education in the future. Also, Grade XI students think that K-12
education curricular may prepare them for the future because with the help of K-
12 education curriculum, they can be more knowledgeable, because K-12
education curricular provide a lot of knowledge to every students.
A number of studies (Book, 1989; Hunt et al., 2014; Rudick & Dannels,
2020; Wright, 2020) have advocated for the significance and assessment of
communication curriculum in K–12 for over 40 years. Recent trends indicate that
while communication educators in higher education have been successful in
promoting the value of communication instruction in grades K–12, there has not
been as much support for the development of training programs and
opportunities for teachers of K–12 to acquire the skills necessary to teach
communication effectively (Hunt n, 2014).
Table 2. What do you think is the role of extracurricular activities (e.g.,
sports, arts, clubs) play in the overall educational experience provided by
K-12 schools?
INFORMANTS RESPONSES
actually, it can help me develop my skills, especially if there are
1
sports that i know. It can help me develop my skills in this
sports.
It's good to showcase one's talents to prepare for college. It
2
helps to discover what one wants to do and what one strengths
are in order to pursue a particular field of study.
That's a great point! K to 12 can help students develop their
3
skills and talents so that they are better prepared for college
and their future careers. It can also help them discover what
they are interested in and what they are good at, so they know
what to focus on when it comes time to choose a college major
or career path.
Yes, curricular activities can help maintain physical fitness by
4
keeping students active and engaged. Being active can also
have positive effects on mental health, which can be particularly
important for students who are stressed or struggling with their
academics.
I agree. Curricular activities can help students develop a wide
5
range of skills that will be useful in college and beyond. They
can also provide opportunities for students to explore their
interests and passions in a safe and supportive environment.
6 Sports and other activities can help students build important
16
skills such as teamwork, leadership, and time management.
This skills can be transferable to other areas in life, including
academic and professionals pursuits. Additionally, participating
in sports can provide students with an outlet for physical activity
and help promote overall health and well-being.
7 Yes, extracurricular activities can provide a break from
academic studies and offer a chance to develop new skills and
passions. This can be beneficial for students who are feeling
overwhelmed or who need a different perspective and learning.
Yes, extracurricular activities like sports can help students
8
develop important skills like teamwork, leaderships, and time
management. This skills are transferable to other areas of life
and can help students succeed in academic and professional
pursuits. Participating in sports or other activities can help
provides students with an athlete for physical activity and help
them promote the overall health and well being.
Table 2. there have a realization that we can achieve a very good grading
by our teachers not only with our educational activities, but also with the use our
talents in any extracurricular activities such as sports, school clubs and other
more. Also, grade XI students thinks that extracurricular activities can provide to
them a break from the academic studies. Also, it does help them to develop their
skills and passion. Additionally, based on the interview, someone said that
involving their selves on the extracurricular activities is not only because of the
additional plus points that may came from the teachers, instead they like to be
involved in extracurricular activities because of the socialization.
Everyone in the Philippines is attempting to adjust to the new curriculum
as K–12 is being implemented for the first time. It may be difficult for the pupils to
adjust to the new educational structure and participate in extracurricular activities
like athletics. The midterm results and a survey questionnaire from Grade XI
Senior High School students were used in this study to compare the academic
performance of athletes and non-athletes following the K–12 implementation
(Billonid et al. 2020).

and the workforce. The K-12 system not only focuses on academic development
but also on holistic growth, nurturing students to become confident individuals
capable of making informed decisions about their academic and career paths.
Students in grades K–12 faced significant difficulties while utilizing
modular distant learning because to the COVID-19 epidemic. The current study
constructs a theoretical framework to measure student satisfaction and uses
Bloom's Taxonomy Theory (BTT) to measure academic achievements in
accordance with Transactional Distance Theory (TDT), which is defined as
understanding the effects of distance learning in the cognitive domain (Jou
Saflor, et al. 2022).

mental health by providing students with essence of
accomplishment and the opportunity to world by participating in
this activities, students can also develop important skills, such
as time management, collaboration, and critical thinking.
It's understandable that there are many activities and projects to
5
manage, and it can be challenging to balance them all, it's
important to prioritize your time and use effective planning and
management techniques to ensure that your able to complete
all of your task on time.
Dealing with challenges and learning to manage stress is an
6
important part of growing and developing as a student as a
person. It's great to hear that you're taking on challenges and
trying your best. It's also important to take care of your physical
and mental health and seek support from others if needed.
7 When dealing with difficult and time consuming assignments, it
can be challenging to prioritize task and manage stress. It's
important for student to develop effective time management
skills and find ways to balance their workload with other
activities. Seeking support from teachers, friends or family
members can also be helpful when dealing with challenging
assignments.
Managing stress and workload is challenging, especially for
8
high school students who may be juggling multiple
responsibilities, it's important for students to develop effective
time management and study skills, and to seek support from
teachers friends or family members when needed. Taking
breaks and finding constructive ways to manage stress can also
be beneficial for students mental health and overall well-being.
Table 5 demonstrate that the grade XI students suffered a lot because of
the overload school works, that caused a stress to every grade XI students, it
also said that dealing with challenges and manage stress is part of our growth.
The resources highlight the challenges faced by students in managing mental
health issues, the increasing demand for mental health care on campuses, and
the evolving approaches taken by schools to address these concerns. The focus
on promoting social, emotional, and behavioral well-being among students
underscores the significance of creating supportive environments, enhancing
mental health literacy, and reducing stigma to ensure students' holistic
development and academic success. Additionally, the content emphasizes the
need for schools to adapt and provide comprehensive mental health services,
including stress management programs, counseling services, and initiatives to
foster a culture of well-being. Overall, the resources underscore the critical role of
schools in supporting students' mental health and well-being, highlighting the
importance of addressing academic pressure, promoting coping mechanisms,
and creating a nurturing educational environment conducive to students' growth
and success.
In learning through activities, especially in K–12 education, students
frequently run across learning challenges. One possible reason for these learning
challenges in game-based contexts is that learners' working memory is being
overloaded due to improper management of cognitive load. As a perfect
replacement for instructional design, learning experience design, or LX Design,
has been expanding to fulfill the demands of game-based learning in the twenty-
first century (Xu, 2016).
Table 6. How would you describe the workload associated with your Grade
XI courses? To what extent does the K-12 curriculum contribute to your
mental health?
INFORMANTS RESPONSES
We usually have many activities to do, especially with many
1
subject related activities. This activities can be overwhelming
and there are deadlines. It can be challenging and can be
stressful to do them all at once, but it's okay.
It's important to stay focus and to make the most of each
2
opportunity for learning and growth.
It's important to have strong support systems in place to help
3
students navigate these challenges and succeed.
As a young students, i believe that the curricular activities
4
provided by k to 12 can help me to achieve my academic goals
while also promoting my mental health. Having the opportunity
to participate in this activities can provide a sense of
accomplishment and fulfillment, which can positively impact my
mood and mental well-being.
Dealing with pressure and staying motivated can be
5
challenging, but developing self discipline and focusing on your
goals can help you overcome those challenges. It's important to
celebrate and recognize your achievements, even if there's
small, as this can help you stay motivated and confident in your
abilities.
6 Dealing with stress and staying motivated can be a challenge
for many students, especially during times of increased
workload or when facing difficult assignments. It's important to
find ways to manage stress and make time for self care.
Developing good habits, such as setting realistic goals, time
management, and prioritizing tasks, can help make the
workload more manageable. Additionally, finding a supportive
community or seeking support from a trusted adult can help
students work through challenges and stay motivated.
7 TVL is a vocational strand that focuses on developing practical
skills related to agriculture, fishery, and other areas. It's great
that tvl has been helpful for you and provide opportunities to
learn new skills and receive support from your teachers and
classmates. It's important for students to have access to skills
training and support that prepares them for careers for life
beyond school.
Academic and extracurricular activities can be overwhelming for
8
students, and it's important to prioritize mental health and well-
being. It's essential for students to find healthy coping
mechanism and seek support when needed. Taking breaks,
practicing self care, and finding activities that bring joy and
relaxation can help students manage stress and maintain their
mental and emotional balance.
In the Table 6, It said that a lot of school works affect the mental health of
every grade XI, but still, they manage it by their own, and stay motivated ever
though there’s have a lot of schoolwork. The resources emphasize the
challenges faced by students in managing mental health issues, the increasing
demand for mental health care on campuses, and the evolving approaches taken
by schools to address these concerns. The focus on promoting social, emotional,
and behavioral well-being among students underscores the significance of
creating supportive environments, enhancing mental health literacy, and reducing
stigma to ensure students' holistic development and academic success.
Additionally, the content emphasizes the need for schools to adapt and provide
comprehensive mental health services, including stress management programs,
counseling services, and initiatives to foster a culture of well-being. Overall, the
resources underscore the critical role of schools in supporting students' mental
health and well-being, highlighting the importance of addressing academic
pressure, promoting coping mechanisms, and creating a nurturing educational
environment conducive to students' growth and success.
The past 20 years have seen an increase in the prevalence of mental
health disorders. Schools have failed to give pupils the resources and assistance
they need to succeed in the classroom, despite the rise in mental health
illnesses. The aim of this research is to draw attention to the widespread
occurrences of mental health disorders and provide valuable perspectives on
tactics that the educational system might employ to enable every kid to achieve
success (keer, 2022).
CHAPTER V
SUMMARY, CONCLUSION, AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The “Exploring the Advantages of K-12 Education Curriculum on
perspective of grade XI Students” is a qualitative research that focuses on the
perspective of grade XI students toward K-12 education curriculum. This
research was conducted specifically to the Grade XI students of Nicolas B.
Barreras National High School.
This study aimed to know the perspective of grade XI students towards K-
12 education curriculum. Based on the data gathered, the researchers were able
to answer the following questions:
1. Do you believe that the K-12 education system prepares students for
higher education and future careers?
The majority of informants in grade XI believed in the K–12 school
curriculum, as seen in table 1. They said that they may receive a higher
education in the future from K–12 curricula. For more than 40 years, a number of
research (Book, 1989; Hunt et al., 2014; Rudick & Dannels, 2020; Wright, 2020)
have supported the importance and evaluation of communication curriculum in
K–12. Although communication educators in higher education have been
successful in highlighting the importance of communication instruction for
students in grades K–12, recent trends show that there hasn't been as much
support for the creation of training programs and chances for K–12 teachers to
gain the abilities required to teach communication effectively (Hunt n, 2014).
1. What do you think is the role of extracurricular activities (e.g., sports,
arts, clubs) play in the overall educational experience provided by K-12
schools?
Understanding this, we may get excellent grades from our professors not
just by doing well in our coursework but also by using our skills in extracurricular
activities like athletics, school clubs, and other extracurricular pursuits. In the
Philippines, the K–12 curriculum is being adopted for the first time, and everyone
is making an effort to adapt. It could be challenging for the students to participate
in extracurricular activities like sports and get used to the new educational
system. This study compared the academic performance of athletes and non-
athletes after the K–12 implementation using the midterm results and a survey
questionnaire from Grade 12 Senior High School students (Billonid et al. 2020).
2. How satisfied are you with the current curriculum in K-12 education?
The responder expressed satisfaction with the K–12 program, stating that it
adequately prepares students for college and their future employment. The
COVID-19 pandemic presented substantial challenges for K–12 students using
modular distance learning. In line with Transactional Distance Theory (TDT),
which is defined as comprehending the effects of distance learning in the
cognitive domain, the current study builds a theoretical framework to measure
student satisfaction and employs Bloom's Taxonomy Theory (BTT) to measure
academic achievements (Jou Saflor, et al. 2022).
3. How would you describe the school environmental and the support you
receive from teachers and staff in terms of resources, teaching methods, or
student support services?
It was mentioned that the teachers are friendly and personable, and they
are able to educate all of the Grade XI pupils. The school climate is reportedly
decent. BACKGROUND The services and environment around school nutrition
have changed during the last 10 years due to changes in federal, state, and local
policies. METHODS: A systematic review was carried out, examining individual
research articles and government reports published between 2010 and 2021,
with the goal of enhancing the school nutrition environment and services as well
as increasing the availability, selection, and consumption of healthier foods and
beverages in K–12 schools in the United States.
4. Do you feel that the K-12 curriculum challenges you academically?
It demonstrate why the grade XI pupils suffered greatly from the
overabundance of schoolwork, which stressed out every kid in the grade. It also
stated that managing stress and overcoming obstacles is a necessary
component of personal development. When learning via activities, particularly in
K–12 education, children may encounter learning obstacles. These learning
difficulties in game-based environments may be caused, in part, by learners'
working memory becoming overloaded as a result of poor cognitive load
management. Learning experience design, or LX Design, has been growing to
meet the needs of game-based learning in the twenty-first century as an ideal
substitute for instructional design (Xu, 2016).
5. How would you describe the workload associated with your Grade XI
courses? To what extent does the K-12 curriculum contribute to your
mental health?
It was said that each grade XI student's mental health is negatively
impacted by their workload, yet despite this, they handle it on their own and
maintain their motivation. The prevalence of mental health illnesses has
increased within the last 20 years. Despite the growth in mental health disorders,
schools have not provided students with the tools and support they require to
excel in the classroom. The purpose of this study is to highlight the
pervasiveness of mental health issues and offer insightful viewpoints on
strategies that the educational system may implement to help every child
succeed (keer, 2022).
Conclusion
Based on the results gathered in this study, the researchers were able to
conclude the following:
1. Through the offer of advanced learning opportunities, the development of
students' skills and knowledge, and the preparation for higher education and
work, the K–12 curriculum assists students in being ready for their future career
pathways.
2. A student's academic career is built on their K–12 education, which equips
them with the fundamental information and abilities needed to succeed in both
college and the job.
3. When pursuing their schooling or joining the industry, students can take use of
the extra years in K–12 to explore their interests and develop new skills.
Recommendation
For the progress of this study, we researchers based in the conclusion of the
total result of all the process. Here are the following recommendation in this
study:
STUDENTS – Students should know how to manage their time and avoid
cramming.
TEACHERS – To lessen school works for their students and be more
responsible to their students.
SCHOOL – To conduct a specific rest day every week for students just to
process on their overload schoolwork's.
