Scope of Work (SOW)

Project Title: Local Microsoft Server Backup to Azure Backup

Prepared For: JAIN & Partners

Prepared By: Intertec Systems LLC

Date: 04th June 2025

1. Project Overview

The purpose of this project is to implement a secure, scalable, and reliable cloud backup
solution for on-premises Microsoft Windows Servers using Azure Backup services. This will
ensure business continuity and data protection by leveraging Microsoft Azure’s cloud
infrastructure.

2. Objectives

 Configure Azure Recovery Services Vault.

 Install and register Microsoft Azure Recovery Services (MARS) Agent on the local
server.

 Set up backup policies (frequency, retention, encryption).

 Verify data protection and perform test restores.

 Provide documentation and basic training to IT staff.

3. In-Scope Activities

3.1 Assessment and Planning

 Identify eligible Windows Servers for backup.

 Assess network bandwidth and storage requirements.

 Determine backup scope (file/folder, system state, etc.).

 Define backup and retention policies.

3.2 Azure Configuration

 Create/Use existing Recovery Services Vault.

 Configure storage redundancy (LRS or GRS).

 Set up access controls and roles (RBAC).

3.3 On-Premises Server Configuration

 Install MARS Agent on selected Windows Server(s).

Internal
 Register each server with the Azure Recovery Services Vault using vault credentials.

 Configure encryption passphrase and securely store it.

3.4 Backup Policy Setup

 Define backup schedules (daily/weekly).

 Apply retention rules for short-term and long-term backup.

 Configure notifications and alerts for backup jobs.

3.5 Testing

 Execute initial full backup.

 Perform a test restore of sample data.

 Validate integrity of backup and restore operations.

3.6 Documentation and Handover

 Provide documentation on:

o Backup schedules and settings.

o Recovery procedures.

o Encryption key/passphrase storage.

 Deliver user training for IT admin team (optional).

4. Out of Scope

 Backing up non-Windows or unsupported systems (Linux, Mac).

 Integration with Azure Site Recovery (DRaaS).

 Full VM image backups or bare-metal restore (unless using Azure Backup Server or
DPM).

 Monitoring or managing backups post-implementation (unless under a managed

services agreement).

5. Deliverables

 Azure Subscription

 Azure Recovery Services Vault configuration

 MARS Agent installation and registration

 Backup job reports and logs

 Documentation package

Internal
 Successful tests restore validation

6. Assumptions

 Adequate internet bandwidth is available for data transmission.

 Target servers are running supported Windows OS versions.

 Client will provide admin access on Windows Server.

7. Timeline

Phase Duration

Assessment &
1–2 days
Planning

1 day per
Configuration
server

Testing 1 day

Actual duration depends on number of servers and data volume.

8. Acceptance Criteria

 Successful backup of selected data to Azure.

 Ability to restore data from Azure to local server.

 Signed approval of the SOW and validation of test results by the client.

Manage Services Scope of Work:

1. Service Overview

This Managed Services agreement provides ongoing support, monitoring, maintenance, and
optimization for the Azure Backup solution deployed on the client's on-premises Microsoft
Windows Server(s). The goal is to ensure continuous protection, compliance with backup
policies, and reliable data recovery capabilities.

2. Objectives

 Maintain the health and performance of Azure Backup jobs.

Internal
 Monitor and report backup job success/failure.

 Manage alerts and resolve issues proactively.

 Provide scheduled restore tests for disaster recovery assurance.

 Offer ongoing support and optimization.

3. In-Scope Managed Services

3.1 Monitoring & Alert Management

 24/7 monitoring of backup job status using Azure Portal.

 Review of alert logs for:

o Failed or incomplete backups

o Agent connectivity issues

o Vault or storage capacity alerts

 Immediate action on critical errors and escalation procedures.

3.2 Backup Job Maintenance

 Regular verification of backup job status.

 Restart or reconfigure failed jobs.

 Modify backup policies upon request (e.g., new schedules, retention changes).

3.3 Restore

 Assist with on-demand restore requests (files, folders, or system state).

 Perform quarterly test restores to verify data recoverability.

 Maintain and test encryption passphrase and recovery documentation.

3.4 Reporting & Documentation

 Monthly backup performance reports, including:

o Job success/failure summary

o Capacity usage and growth trends

o Recommendations for improvements

3.5 Capacity & Cost Management

 Monitor Azure storage usage and costs.

 Provide alerts or reports on nearing capacity thresholds.

 Recommend optimization strategies (e.g., changing storage tiers, removing stale

backups).

Internal
3.6 Support & Advisory

 Email or ticket-based technical support (business hours or 8/5)

 Recommendations on improving backup efficiency.

 Advising on Azure updates, vault management, and compliance.

5. Out-of-Scope

 Backing up non-Windows or unsupported devices (unless specified).

 Data recovery from external, non-Azure storage.

 Full disaster recovery (DR) orchestration unless contracted.

 Management of non-Microsoft backup tools.
