Background information
Advancement in technology has led to emergence of various digital devices such as tablets that
offer entertainments, education and other important activities. However, uncontrolled use of
this digital devices may cause health risks such as lack of sleep that in turn lowers the
productivity of the users due to fatigue. Most people spend more than enough time staring at
their devices which may lead to eye strains and other medical issues. It is for reasons such as
these that we decided to develop an application that can help users manage their time and
avoid getting visual and mental defect as a result of too much time spent on their devices. A
research conducted by : Theda Radtke (University of Wuppertal, Germany), Theresa Apel
(Witten/Herdecke University, Germany), Konstantin Schenkel (University of Zurich,
Switzerland), Jan Keller (Freie Universität Berlin, Germany), and Eike von Lindern (Dialog N –
Research and Communication for People, Environment and Nature, Switzerland) in 2021 [Ref1]
analyzed the effectiveness of digital detox interventions in improving health, well-being, social
relationships, self-control, and performance. It highlighted mixed results, with some
interventions showing positive effects while others had no impact or even negative
consequences. Another study conducted by Fabian Stangl and collaborators [Ref2] in 2021
explored the methodologies used in digital detox studies and their implications. It emphasized
the growing interest in digital detox as a means to address issues like screen addiction and its
impact on mental health.
