Grammar Rules – Past Simple


We use the Past Simple to talk about actions that happened in the past (yesterday, last week,
in 2020, etc.).

Regular Verbs: Add **-ed** to the base form of the verb.


Example: play → played / cook → cooked

Irregular Verbs: They have a different past form.


Example: go → went / eat → ate

Affirmative: Subject + past verb


→ She watched a movie.
→ They went to the park.

Negative: Subject + did not (didn't) + base verb


→ She didn't watch a movie.
→ They didn't go to the park.

Interrogative: Did + subject + base verb?


→ Did she watch a movie?
→ Did they go to the park?
