Empowerment through Mental Health Awareness
By: Karl John F. Del Carmen (Teacher I)
Attending the "Gabihan High School Teachers Empowerment through
Mental Health Awareness" program has been a timely and meaningful
experience for me. As an educator, I carry the responsibility not only of
teaching but also of mentoring and guiding students through their academic
and personal challenges. However, in the process of helping others, I often
neglect to take care of myself. This event reminded me of the importance of
mental health—something I had been unintentionally setting aside.
One of the main struggles I currently face is managing my time
effectively. With lesson planning, grading, school activities, and other
personal responsibilities, I often feel overwhelmed. It becomes even more
difficult when unexpected tasks or changes in schedule occur. This lack of
balance between work and personal time has been a major source of stress
for me.
Another challenge I encounter is the pressure that comes with our
profession. There is a constant demand to perform well, meet expectations,
and deliver results. While I take pride in my work, the pressure sometimes
becomes too much to bear, leading to burnout and self-doubt.
Through the seminar, I gained valuable insights and coping strategies
that I believe will help me moving forward. I was reminded that taking care
of my mental health is not a sign of weakness but a form of strength. I
learned the importance of setting boundaries, prioritizing tasks, and allowing
myself to rest. More importantly, I was reassured that I am not alone—many
of my colleagues are going through similar experiences, and it is okay to ask
for help and support.
The empowerment program was not just informative but also inspiring.
It gave me hope and reminded me of my worth—not only as a teacher but as
a person. I am grateful for the opportunity to reflect, connect, and reset.
Moving forward, I will strive to be kinder to myself, to manage my time with
more intention, and to face challenges with a healthier mindset.
