Topic: Food and Farming grade 4
📚 Notes for Students
1. What is Farming?
Farming is the way people grow crops and raise animals for food.
There are two main types of farming:
Crop farming – Growing fruits, vegetables, grains (like rice, maize, and
wheat).
Animal farming – Raising animals like cows, chickens, sheep, and goats for
meat, milk, and eggs.
2. Where Does Our Food Come From?
Some food is grown locally (near your town or country).
Other food is imported (brought from other countries).
Different climates grow different crops (bananas grow in hot areas; apples
grow in cooler ones).
3. Why is Farming Important?
It gives us food to eat.
It provides jobs for people.
It supports the economy (selling food in markets and shops).
4. Farming Around the World
Farmers in Africa often grow maize, cassava, and groundnuts.
In Asia, farmers grow rice and tea.
In Europe, farmers grow wheat, potatoes, and grapes.
Technology helps modern farms: tractors, irrigation, and machines.
5. Problems in Farming
Drought (no rain)
Pests (insects that eat crops)
Floods
Too much use of chemicals
