Writing a Strong Hook

A hook is the first sentence of your essay. It grabs the reader’s attention.
Good hooks make people want to keep reading!

Different kinds of Hooks

1. Ask a Question

How many people check their phones before getting out of bed?

2. Use an Interesting Fact

Type II diabetes is the fastest-growing disease in the world.

3. Write an Interesting Observation

European economists are not sleeping well these days.

4. Start with a Quote

“I have a dream.” — Martin Luther King Jr.

5. Use a Short Story or Scenario

Traveling at 100 miles per hour, he felt as if he was flying.
