Discrimination, a big problem

to solve
Discrimination in our society is nothing new, always having a target for the minority, whether it
is for their sexuality, gender, race, or even ethnicity. These constant discriminations and racism
cause conflicts and fear in our society. In this essay, I have the purpose of raising awareness
about this problem our world has been suffering from throughout its history.

One of the most extreme cases of racism and superiority against a different race or skin color
was back in the 20th century, in the United States. When the white supremacist group, Ku Klux
Klan, was originally created with a single-minded purpose, to promote hate against African
Afro-Americans in their country. One of the many causes for this hate was the fear of
Americans of a radical change in their country. Additionally, they didn’t support inclusion,
rejecting the idea of having ‘unworthy’ people in public or political positions.

Approaching more to a more contemporary time, the discrimination against different people
doesn’t reach that same level of hate, but it is still a matter and a major problem society still
suffers, and it has to be solved.

The most common cases happen at school or at work, where people of different races, origins,
and ethnicities have to coexist more directly. It is then in these moments when these groups
can suffer from harassment and exclusion, either by peers or even by the same teachers or
bosses. This is caused by stereotypes and pre-judgments, when in reality, just a very small
group of people act that way.

As we know, this is not only a problem that happens just in a country or two; discrimination
and racism a worldwide problem, in which many of us are accomplices or bystanders, choosing
to stay silent and only spectate when we see a case.

That is the reason why I have a solution to reduce, raise consciousness, and avoid this issue. It
consists of giving speeches about racism and discrimination to show what these acts cause to
the victims, physically and psychologically. Additionally, there will be created a special phone
number exclusively to give help and support to the victims, and report when we are being a
victim or spectator of this problem, anonymously.
By giving these resources, I look to promote awareness about the consequences this problem
has on people, and at the same time, provide help to the victims while keeping them safe
anonymously.
