Portfolio for Boas Chiteza

My artistic expression is a fusion of poetry, prose, soundscapes, and linguistic

exploration. Through the written and spoken word, I strive to create immersive
experiences that transport audiences to new realms of thought and emotion.
As you peruse this portfolio, you will witness a collection of marked events and
performances where I have shared my spoken word poetry with diverse
audiences across various venues and platforms.
Please find attached links to visual representations of these moments, each
capturing the essence and energy of my performances, and serving as a
testament to the power of spoken word poetry. These visuals offer glimpses into
the vibrant atmospheres, the raw emotions, and the nuanced storytelling that
form the foundation of my work.
As a poet, I believe in the transformative nature of language. I aim to craft
verses that intertwine rhythm, metaphor, and imagery to evoke a myriad of
emotions, challenge perspectives, and ignite conversations. Through my
poetry, I delve into personal and societal narratives, exploring themes of
identity, social justice, love, and the human experience. I seek to create a space
where words become a catalyst for change, a source of solace, and a
celebration of the beauty and complexity of life. To my poetic endeavors, I
have also ventured into the realm of writing, crafting prose that delves into the
intricacies of human relationships, the wonders of nature, and the exploration
of diverse cultures. Through my writing, I strive to connect with readers on a
profound level, weaving tales that resonate with universal truths and inspire
introspection.
As a soundscaper, I meld the world of words with the realm of sound. I explore
the marriage of spoken word poetry with ambient sounds, creating immersive
auditory experiences that transport listeners to new dimensions. With carefully
crafted soundscapes, I aim to enhance the emotional impact of my spoken
word performances, creating a sensory journey that transcends the boundaries
of traditional storytelling. My passion for linguistics drives me to explore the
intricacies of language itself. I am fascinated by the diversity of languages and
the unique ways in which they shape our perceptions and experiences. This
love for linguistics manifests in my creative work, where I experiment with
wordplay, explore the nuances of different languages, and dive into the beauty
of translation.
1. Harvest exhibition 1

Frustration

I participated as a performer and writer. This was a spoken word piece

called frustration which was mainly a piece that speaks to the stages of
pain that an average Zimbabwean goes through to make a living in
Zimbabwe. The performances will be attached at the end of the
document.
2. Harvest exhibition 2
This was a follow up of the series, I also performed representing the idea
of frustration when the seeds sowed do not germinate and produce. The
theme for my performance was titled barren. This was an expression of
how the youth in Zimbabwe in this day and age are constantly
cultivating to see the fruits of their labor but the odds are never in their
favor.
3. Pleasant ways

Hosted at REPS Theatre in Harare by Creative corner, the

show used music, poetry, dance, and performance art to delve into the
plights of being a black male in the modern era. Topics such as stigma
around mental health, economic pressure, increase in stress and suicide
rates were discussed and explored during the various performances.
demand. I played Henry, the beacon of hope. The spoken word piece and
the music I performed played around the idea that despair births hope.
4. Black History month
Mhere- the performance was a spoken word piece with a rap (musical)
energy to it, mainly reiterating the fact that oppression still is a real thing
in our societies and it has shapeshifted into different elements over the
years. Mhere also spoke to the monsters that wear suits and ties and
pretend they are for us when they are just parasites living off our blood.
5. Phenomenal lights Festival
Life is hard and pain is real was the titled of the first piece, followed by
Marwadzo which are social commentaries of on abuse and frustration in
the youth respectively. The visuals are attached in a separate document.
