Operation Sindoor- Redefining India's Policy Against Terrorism
"When terror tries to shake our spirit, India rises not in fear, but in unity — with courage
in every heart and strength in every step."
India is a country of diversity, harmony, and togetherness. Yet, at times there
are threats that shake our peace, such as terrorism, which instills fear and injury in the lives
of innocent people. On 22 April 2025, there was a horrific terror attack in Baisaran
Valley, close to Pahalgam in Jammu &
Kashmir, in which five terrorists, armed with guns, fired at tourists and murdered 26
civilians, 25 tourists, and one pony‐ride operator who was a local.
This assault broke the peace and stunned the country.
From Tragedy to Action
While the world stood in shock, India did not remain silent. The government moved swiftly by
suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, shutting down the Attari–Wagah border, cancelling visas
for Pakistani citizens, and ejecting diplomats—
firm actions that demonstrated India's determination
. Operation Sindoor, a targeted military action against Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir
(PoK) terrorist infrastructure, was launched by India on May 7, 2025. Nine terror launch
pads belonging to organizations such as Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba were hit by
missile strikes, but no military or civilian establishments were targeted
Why It Matters
Operation Sindoor is a significant departure from India's policy
on counter-terrorism. Rather than waiting or coming late, India made a decision to
act promptly and decisively. These are the highlights of the achievements:
1. Precision attacks employing indigenously produced missiles such as BrahMos and Akash—
emphasizing India's increasing self-reliance
2. A calibrated, no escalatory response, targeting only terror infrastructure—
not military or civilian targets.
3. A commitment that terrorism will not be accepted, indicating India
will act strongly whenever its citizens or territory are assaulted.
A Symbol of Resilience and Unity
Operation Sindoor unified the whole country. Soldiers, intelligence personnel,
government officials, and ordinary citizens marched as one. Right from foot soldiers on
the battlefield to school students hoisting the tricolor, the message was loud and clear:
India unites—irrespective of religion, region, or language—against terror acts.
It reasserted Indian resilience: the country's potency comes not from division, but unity.
