Davidic Covenant
Scene 1 *film
Narrator: On a Sunday morning, Deby is busy with house chores while her son, David, is on his
mobile phone.
Deby: David, why don’t you come and help me here?
David: I’m busy mom. I can’t help you.
Deby: But you aren’t doing anything. Why don’t you get ready to go to the church with me. It’s
been awhile since you attended your last mass.
David: No, mom, I don’t want to. Can’t you see I’m busy?
Narrator: Deby didn’t answer nor scold her son. She just sighed and silently prepared to attend
the mass. After a few minutes.
Deby: You know son, you were named after a great king that loved God so much. I named you
after him hoping that you will also be close to our creator.
David: I don’t care mom. I don’t even know if he is really real, I mean who believes in someone
they haven’t seen?
Deby: Suit yourself then.
Scene 2
Narrator: Later that night, David had a dream—a dream that would change his views about the
Almighty Father.
David: Where am I? Why am I here? Why am I surrounded by sheeps?
Person: There he is! David! Your father has sent for you as Samuel is waiting for you. He has
invited your family to join him in making a special sacrifice.
David: Wait, who’s Samuel?
Person: Hurry up will you? They are waiting. All of your brothers are there.
Narrator: David had no choice but to go with the person.
Scene 3
Samuel: I have come here to offer a sacrifice to God. But before that may I know who your sons
are?
Jesse: Well, this is my eldest son, Eliab.
Samuel (voice over): Oh, I think he would make a good king.
God: This is not the one I want to be king. He is handsome and tall but the Lord does not look at
the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.
Jesse: This is Abinadab
Samuel: No, the Lord didn’t choose him too.
Jesse: These are all my seven sons, Seer.
Samuel: Do you have any more sons?
Jesse: I do. There is still the youngest, but he is out taking care of the sheep.
Samuel: Tell him to come here. We won’t offer the sacrifice until he comes.
Narrator: Jesse sent for him, and after a few minutes, David has arrived.
God: This is the one— anoint him!
Narrator: With God’s command, Samuel took the olive oil and anointed David in front of his
brothers. Immediately the Lord’s spirit took control of David and left Saul’s side.
Scene 4
Servant: We know that an evil spirit sent by God is tormenting you. So give us the order, sir, and
we will look for a man who knows how to play the harp. Then when the evil spirit comes on you,
the man can play his harp, and you will be alright again.
Saul: Find me a man who plays well and bring him to me.
Servant: Jesse of the town of Bethlehem has a son who is a good musician. He is also a brave
and handsome man, a good soldier, and an able speaker. The Lord is with him.
Scene 5
Narrator: In hopes of getting rid of the evil spirit that is tormenting him, he sent messengers to
Jesse.
Messenger: Send me your son David, the one who takes care of the sheep.
Narrator: So, Jesse sent his son David, along with a goat, a donkey loaded with bread, and a
leather bag full of wine. Saul liked David and told Jesse to make David stay in his service. Since
then, whenever the evil spirit came, Saul would make David play the harp and he would be okay
again.
Scene 6
Narrator: Time passed, and David became a soldier of Saul. He defeated Philistine’s giant. Saul
grew jealous of him and because of this Saul has totally lost God’s favor. While David was at
Hebron, the tribe leaders of Israel visited him. *film
Tribe leaders: We are your own flesh and blood. In the past, even when Saul was still our king,
you led the people of Israel in battle, and the Lord promised you that you would lead his people
and be their ruler.
Narrator: David then made a sacred alliance with all of the tribe leaders of Israel. They anointed
him and he became King of Israel.
Scene 7
Narrator: Under David’s leadership, they had taken over Jerusalem and the Philistines. The Lord
was always with him during battles. Never did the Lord leave his side. And then time comes
where David has decided to build the Lord a temple after he has retrieved the covenant box that
was once lost under Saul’s reign. *film
David: Here I am living in a house built of cedar, but God's Covenant Box is kept in a tent!
Nathan: Do whatever you have in mind, because the Lord is with you.
Scene 8
Narrator: Later that night, the Lord spoke with prophet Nathan and told him to deliver his
message to David.
Nathan: The Lord said to tell you that you are not the one to build a temple for me to live in.
From the time I rescued the people of Israel from Egypt until now, I have never lived in a
temple; I have traveled around living in a tent. In all my traveling with the people of Israel I
never asked any of the leaders that I appointed why they had not built me a temple made of
cedar. So, tell my servant David that I, the Lord Almighty, say to him, 'I took you from looking
after sheep in the fields and made you the ruler of my people Israel. I have been with you
wherever you have gone, and I have defeated all your enemies as you advanced. I will make you
as famous as the greatest leaders in the world. I have chosen a place for my people Israel and
have settled them there, where they will live without being oppressed any more. Ever since they
entered this land, they have been attacked by violent people, but this will not happen again. I
promise to keep you safe from all your enemies and to give you descendants. When you die and
are buried with your ancestors, I will make one of your sons kings and will keep his kingdom
strong. He will be the one to build a temple for me, and I will make sure that his dynasty
continues forever. I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish
him as a father punishes his son. But I will not withdraw my support from him as I did from
Saul, whom I removed so that you could be king. You will always have descendants, and I will
make your kingdom last forever. Your dynasty will never end. *voice over
Scene 9 *film
Narrator: David was happy to receive the message of the Lord. He then went to the Lord’s tent,
sat down and prayed to him.
David: Sovereign Lord, I am not worthy of what you have already done for me, nor is my family.
Yet now you are doing even more, Sovereign Lord; you have made promises about my
descendants in the years to come. And you let a man see this, Sovereign Lord! What more can I
say to you! You know me, your servant. It was your will and purpose to do this; you have done
all these great things in order to instruct me. How great you are, Sovereign Lord! There is none
like you; we have always known that you alone are God. There is no other nation on earth like
Israel, whom you rescued from slavery to make them your own people. The great and wonderful
things you did for them have spread your fame to her nations and world. You drove out other
nations and their gods as your people advanced, the people whom you set free from Egypt to be
your own. You have made Israel you have become their God own people forever, and you, Lord.
And now, Lord God, fulfill for all time the promise you made about me and my descendants, and
do what you said you would. Your fame will be great, and people will forever say, "The Lord
Almighty is God over Israel' And you will preserve my dynasty for all time. Lord Almighty, God
of Israel! I have the courage to pray this prayer to you, because you have revealed all this you,
because you have revealed all this to me, your servant, and have told me that you will make my
descendants kings. And now, Sovereign Lord, you are God; you always keep your promises, and
you have made this wonderful promise to me. I ask you to bless my descendants so that they will
continue to enjoy your favor. You, Sovereign Lord, have promised this, and your blessing will
rest on my descendants forever. *Voice over
Scene 10
Narrator: David woke up from his sleep while catching his breath. He could not believe what he
had just gone through. Everything he had dreamed about felt surreal.
David: What was that? Is he really real?
Deby: Who is real, son?
David: God, Abba. I had a dream where I was king of Israel and God was with me throughout
my battles.
Deby: He is real, son, God is real. I have been telling you that you were named after a great King
and one that loves God. When you have problems, you can always talk to the Lord because he is
always listening. It is not yet too late to come back to him, all you need to do is pray, follow his
commandments and lay yourself to Him. As with Him, everything is possible.
