Disease Meningitis
Description inflammation of meninges
Symptoms constant h/a, stiff neck, extension of extemities with flexion of neck brain shift, h/a, fever, focal defects fever, h/a, focal symptoms, altered LOC fatigue, pain, dipolpia, vision problems, vertigo, ataxia, hearing problems exacerbation/remission: muscle weakness, respiratory dysfunction, fatigue, swallowing prob weakness, paralysis, has recovery period
Nursing care droplet precaution, rest, Drugs:antibiotics, anticonvulsant (Dilanton) MRI, CT show increased ICP MRI, CT ID size/location, control ICP, Drugs: antiseizure (pehnyotin) meds depend on type. acyclovir used for viral type monitor speech/vision/hearing, Drugs: immunosuppresant (Imuran), Corticosteroid (Prednisone) maintain patent airway, assess swallowing, sit client upright, anticholinesterase agents, Prostigmin inhibits breakdown of AcH WBC elevation, lumbar puncture shows increase in ICP, monitor resp, BP, skin breakdown. Drugs: neurotonin for pain avoidance of behaviors that cause pain. Drugs: antiseizure (Tegretol) protect eye, corticosteriod therapy (Prednisone) no cure, Dopamine blockers (Navane, Haldol)
Brain Abscess
infectious material within brain acute inflammation of brain tissue plaque development in white matter autoimmune, antibodies interfere with transmission of AcH acute destruction of myelin sheath
Encephalitis
Multiple Sclerosis
Myasthenia gravis
Guillain-Barre Syndrome
Trigeminal neuralgia
condition of 5th cranial nerve, unilateral shooting pain condition of 7th cranial nerve, paralysis of face hereditary, premature death of cells of basal ganglia loss of motor neurons in anterior horn overstimulation of AcH
pain, facial twitching
Bells palsy
unilateral paralysis, spontaneous recovery involuntary choreiform (abnormal involuntary movements) fatigue, cramps, incoordination, over reactive reflexes tremor, muscle regidity, bradykinesia, postural instability
Huntingtons
ALS
maintatain patent airway, Gluatmate antagonist (Rilutek), slows deterioration of motor neurons Dopaminergics, Dopamine agonists, Anticholinergics
Parkinsons
