Week 1 Science 9

This document is a detailed lesson plan for a Science 9 class at Cagdiano National High School, focusing on the topic of Projectile Motion. The objectives include describing and comparing horizontal and vertical motions of projectiles, as well as recording the time for a ball to reach the ground. The lesson plan outlines activities, evaluations, and assignments to engage students in understanding the principles of projectile motion.

yourself comfortable. (Students will sit in their chairs.)

B. Recall
Before we start our new lesson, let’s have a quick
review from our previous lesson, Constellation at
Different Times of the Year. Are you guys ready?
Yes, Ma’am

So, this is the first one What do you mean of

constellations.? Ma’am, the word constellation from the Latin
word “con” means Group and “stella” means
stars.

Very good. Why do stars appear to move to move in

the sky? Ma’am, because Earth rotates on its axis,
thus the stars appear to move across the
night sky from east to west, and the sun
seems to rise in the east and set in the west.

Very good. What are the northern circumpolar Ma’am, the northern circumpolar
constellations? constellations are Ursa Major, Ursa Minor,
Cassiopeia, and Draco.

Very good. Did you understand our last topic class? Yes ma’am.

Any questions? Clarifications? No ma’am.

Okay. Let’s proceed to our new topic.

C. Motivation

Begin by asking students the key concepts from

specifically related to Projectile Motion,

At the instant a horizontally pointed cannon ball is

fired, a cannonball held at the cannon’s side is
released and drops to the ground. Which cannonball
strikes the ground first, the one fired from the cannon
or the one dropped?

D. Development of the Lesson

In your own understanding what is a Projectile?

Ma’am, any object that continues in motion
by its own inertia and is influenced only by
the downward force of gravity (and air
resistance).
Very good, also an object dropped from rest is a
projectile, an object thrown straight upward is a
projectile and an object thrown upward at an angle to
the horizontal

The path that the projectile follows is a parabola and

the path is called its trajectory.

In horizontal motion If there is no force acting on an

object, then it will continue moving at a constant
speed in the same direction and there will be no
change in its velocity and distance will increase the
same amount with each second.

Ma’am, an object in free fall is only acted on

understanding Kiesha what it is?

Very good, Acceleration due to gravity is 9.8 m/s2

distance covered increases with each second

Projectile Motion Combines Vertical Motion and

Horizontal Motion

 The vertical motion of a projectile is not

affected by its horizontal motion
-meaning: The vertical motion of a projectile is
identical to an object in free fall

 The horizontal motion of a projectile is not

affected by its vertical motion
- meaning the projectile will travel the same
horizontal distance as it would if it were simply rolling
on a flat surface in the absence of friction

Very good.

Projectiles follow a parabolic trajectory

 Horizontal component along trajectory
remains unchanged.
 Acceleration only occurs in the vertical
component

E. Evaluation
Tell whether the following projectile in motion has
either horizontal or vertical motion, or both horizontal
and vertical motion. Answer yes if there is either
horizontal or vertical motion and no if there is no
either horizontal or vertical motion.
Projectile in Motion Horizontal Vertical
Motion Motion
1.The ball was kick
horizontally
2. The player losses the
ball upward
3. The basketball player
shoots his three points
shoot.
4. The ball is placed at
rest on the top of the
table.
5. The egg rolls and
drop at the edge of the
table.
6.The egg is in the nest
on the top of the tree
7. The volleyball player
pitches the ball 30
above the head
8. The coins were flick
on the top of the table
9. Ball thrown 45° at the
edge of the 15-meter
height.
10. The ball was drop on
10 meter high building.

F. Assignment:
Direction: Draw a rough parabola by sketching
vertical and horizontal lines of the Manila paper and
throw the ball similar to these.

Guide Questions:
1. How will you describe the ball’s path and motion?
2. How will you compare or contrast the horizontal
and vertical spacing?
3. Based on the activity, it is possible that the ball will
end at a higher elevation than its starting level?
