My XU SHS Story
Just as I was told that I will be studying in Xavier University Senior High school, I knew my journey would be
interesting. I met new friends, excel more in my academics, and gained more confidence throughout my
journey. I were able to learn moral with their influences that inspire me to be MAGIS not just inside the
campus, but I could also use it in to the future as well.
Reflection Papers
Context
As part of our work immersion program, I was assigned to the Department of Social Welfare and
Development (DSWD). I was curious and excited about what I’d learn from working in a real office setting.
My partner and I were both looking forward to this experience, even though we didn’t know exactly what to
expect.
Experience
Day 1:
On our first day, we were guided to our assigned departments. My partner and I were eager to start. A worker
eventually came and showed us how to scan documents. We were assigned to scan paperwork—mostly case
files, biodata, and other client-related documents from 2015. At first, it didn’t seem that interesting, but as we
skimmed through some cases, we started to enjoy reading bits and pieces of each story. What surprised us was
the amount of paperwork—we thought there were only a few folders, but when I looked around the office, I
saw boxes and boxes labeled by date, stacked and waiting to be scanned. We also had to make sure that each
paper was clean, uncrumpled, and easy to read. By the end of the day, our arms felt sore from all the repetitive
movements—it really felt like an unexpected arm workout!
Day 2:
The second day followed the same routine—more scanning. We took short breaks with snacks, which helped
us push through the monotony. Something different happened that day though—some of the employees
started interacting with us. They made us feel welcomed and shared stories about their own work experiences.
That moment made me realize the importance of community and support in a workplace.
Day 3:
The last day of immersion came with a small twist. After finishing the final box of scanning tasks, we were
told to do something called "grooming," where we prepared documents by removing staples and anything
unnecessary. It was still repetitive, but it gave me a better idea of how organized and detail-oriented office work
needs to be. During lunch, we treated ourselves to Crumbcoat and went home full and happy.
Reflection
This immersion made me reflect on the reality of adult life and being an employee. It’s not just about doing the
job—it’s about managing time, pushing through tiredness, and staying focused. I wasn’t used to the limited
break time, and the long hours made me realize how tiring real work can be. Still, I learned a lot—not just from
the tasks, but also from talking to the workers who opened up about balancing personal life and work. Their
stories gave me valuable insight into what lies ahead in my own future.
Action
With everything I’ve learned, I know I’ll carry these lessons with me. I’ll start preparing myself mentally and
physically for the demands of the real world. I want to build better time management habits, improve my
patience, and adjust my expectations when it comes to working life. Most importantly, I’ll remember the
importance of hard work, resilience, and staying grounded no matter what task is given to me.
Evaluation
Overall, this experience was more than just a school requirement—it was a reality check. It helped me grow,
challenged my comfort zone, and gave me a glimpse into the responsibilities adults face every day. I’m thankful
for the experience, and I believe it has helped me become more mature and aware of the real world I’ll soon be
entering.
