Place of living

 candidate’s flat/house
 furnishings, pieces of furniture
 household chores and appliances
 living environments
 living in the city, living in the country (advantages and disadvantages)

I live in a nice house. We live in the mountains, so we have a nice view. We have a kitchen, a
dining room, two bathrooms, a living-room, 3 bedrooms , a balcony and a terrace.
We have a big garage and a garden with lots of flowers and fruit trees.
Every room is colourful and the furniture is modern in the house. There are pictures on the
walls and lots of plants everywhere.
In the kitchen there are lot of household appliances eg. scales, kettle, mixer, deep fryer, food
processor, toaster, microwave oven, fridge, dishwasher, freezer, mincer and bread slicer. The
plates, the cutlery, the cups, the glasses, the bowls, the pans and pots are in the cupboard. On
the other side of the sink there is a gas cooker.
House chores are very tiring and take a lot of time. Like doing the washing-up, cooking,
tidying the rooms, cleaning the rooms or washing must be done almost every day. Sharing the
housework, and using household appliences, household chores are quicker.
In my opinion, household appliances are very useful and important nowadays, especially if a
mother has a job or profession. The more labour saving devices you have, the more free time
you have.
In our dining room there is a dining table with four chairs. The dresser is opposite the dining
table. I am often in the kitchen. In the morning when I get up, I make tea and some toasts.
Fortunately we have all the electric devices and it makes cooking easier. I really hate washing
up so I don’t do it very often.
My bedroom is not too big, but I have everything I need. There is a bed, a desk, a chair and
some shelves here. Next to the door there is my bed, above the bed there is a lamp. Opposite
the bed there is a TV. On the shelves there are many books. I love reading, my favourites are
the science fiction books. Next to the bed there is a desk where I usually learn and my
computer is here, too.
Our living room is quiet, big and light. There are nice curtains on the windows and a big
carpet on the floor. The walls are yellow and the furniture is white. Besides there are plants
and pictures on the walls.
The living room is very cosy and we always have a good time there. We often watch TV, play
board games or just have a chat there. There is a comfortable sofa opposite the TV. When I
have time, I read magazines and books, use my laptop or surf on the internet here.
Our bathroom is green. We have a big tub and there is hot and cold running water, of course.
The washbasin is beside the tube and over the washbasin there is a mirror. The bathroom shelf
is next to the mirror. On the shelf we have toothbrushes, toothpaste, sprays, shampoo, body
lotion and things like that. The towels are on the rack next to the washbasin. We have our
automatic washing-machine here, too.
Our neighbourhood is nice and calm. We have got a green park near our house and I often go
there to meet my friends. The roads are not too busy and air is cleaner than in the other parts
of the city. When I go into the city centre I can feel the polluted air.
I like living in the city because I can find everything I need. There are all kinds of shops and
places. I like big shopping centres because there are shops, restaurants and cinemas in one
building so I don’t have to travel. Life is never boring there are a lot of things to do.
Sometimes I feel that there are too many people and cars and in the afternoon there is always
traffic jam. The only bad thing is the public transport. The buses are crowded and don’t run on
time.

Living in the city or in the country

In Hungary people live in towns or villages. Both of them have advantages and disadvantages.
In a city it’s easier to find a job and there are more possibilities for spending your free time.
There are more banks, post offices and all kinds of services. On the other hand, the air is
polluted, the streets are dirty and noisy, there is more crime, and life is too hectic.
I think the city has many advantages. eg. you can meet a lot of people. There are many shops,
restaurants, supermarkets, malls, cinemas, theatres, and other facilities. You are never bored,
you can always find some good programmes. There is a bigger variety of products.
In town centres there are blocks of flats, apartment houses, and on the outskirts there are big
housing estates. In the green belt you can find detached, semi-detached and terraced houses.
The traffic is a big problem. In bigger cities there are many cars and there are traffic jams in
the morning and in the afternoon. Because of the many cars, the air is polluted. I think the
prices are higher in the city, almost everything costs more.
In a village life is more peaceful, the air is clean, there are flowers and trees everywhere and
people know each other. People are friendlier, they always have the time for a chat and help
each other.
The disadvantages are that the infrastructure is not so developed, the number of services is
smaller, and you have to commute to work. If you need to contact the authorities, you have to
travel to the nearest city, and it can take a day. In a village, you can have less free time
activities, so you are often bored. There is usually one shop, so you cannot get everything you
need. On the other hand, you are close to nature, the air is not so polluted, the streets are not
crowded so your life is more peaceful.
In villages most people live in a family house, though there may be some blocks in the centre.
Travelling is a problem. There aren’t many buses, trams or subways, so you need to have a
car if you want to go somewhere.
Many people have a garden so they can plant vegetables, have fruit trees or flowers there.
You can keep pets and children can play in the garden. People can have a clean and calm
environment and they can walk in a forest if they want.
I live in a small town called Pásztó. It’s between two mountains, the Mátra and the Cserhát.
The countryside is beautiful. The people are friendly here. I like living here because there are
a lot of shops and there are some entertainment and sports facilities, too.
I would like to live in town which is not too big but there are many things to do. The ideal
size is similar to Eger. I like shops and supermarkets so there should be some of them in the
town. I would like to have a good job there .
