BACKGROUND STORY

The Shroudborne are spectral echoes of those who have died within the
Shroud’s misty expanse, their souls cursed to roam eternally. In life, they
were warriors, hunters, rulers, and common folk. In death, the Shroud
has twisted them into vengeful apparitions bound to its will. To become a
Shroudborne is not merely to die—it is to be consumed by the Shroud
itself, your essence chained to its fragmented realms, forever wandering
in search of purpose that can never be fulfilled.

A Cursed Existence

When a soul perishes within the Shroud, it does not pass into the afterlife.
Instead, the mists claim it, chaining it to the spectral expanse. The
Shroudborne retain fragments of who they once were, but these
memories are distorted, reshaped into an unending torment. A warrior
might relive the horrors of their final battle, endlessly striking at
perceived foes, while a ruler might become a tyrant, forever enforcing
laws over a realm that no longer exists.

Their spectral forms are as varied as the lives they once led. Some appear
as flickering silhouettes, their edges dissolving into mist, while others are
twisted into monstrous shapes that reflect their torment. Chains often
bind their forms, a visible reminder of the Shroud’s grip on their essence.
These chains are not merely symbolic—they are extensions of the Shroud
itself, anchoring the Shroudborne to the mist and enforcing the will of
this malevolent realm.

Drawn to Magic

Shroudborne are irresistibly drawn to magic. The act of casting a spell or


wielding enchanted artifacts within the Shroud is like lighting a beacon in

SPECIAL RULES
Aura of Dread: Once per this model's activation,
before attacking, pick one enemy unit within 18".
That unit must take a morale test, and if failed it
takes 3 hits.
Aura of Ominous Power: Once per this unit's
activation, before attacking, pick 2 enemy units
within 12". Each unit must take a morale test, and
if failed they take 3 hits.
Chilling: Enemies get -1 to hit in melee when
attacking units where all models have this rule.
Duelist: This model's melee weapons get AP(+2)
against units where most models have Tough(3)
or higher.
Ethereal: Counts as having Stealth and Strider.
When taking a wound, roll one die, on a 6+ it is
ignored.
Frightful Gaze: Once per this unit's activation,
before attacking, pick one enemy unit within 12",
which gets -2 to its next morale test roll.
Reap: Enemies that roll to block hits from this
weapon take one extra wound for each
unmodified result of 1 that they roll.
Shroud Step: When this unit is activated, you
may place all models with this rule in it
anywhere within D3+1" of their position.
Spawn(X): Once per game, when this model is
activated, you may place a new unit of X fully
within 6" of it.
Spectral Chains: Once per this unit's activation,
before attacking, pick one enemy unit within 6".
Next time it moves, it moves -2” when using
Advance, and -4” when using Rush/Charge.
Spectral Touch: Once per activation, when this
model moves over enemy units, pick one of them
and roll one die. On a roll of 6+ it takes 1 hit.
Undead: Whenever a unit where most models
have this rule fails a morale test that causes it to
be Shaken or Routed, the test counts as passed
instead. Then, roll as many dice as the number
of wounds it would take to fully destroy it, and
for each result of 1-3 the unit takes one wound,
which can't be ignored.
