Notes on the data tables

UCAS cycles run from 1 September in one year to 30 September in the following year so, for example, the
2023 cycle ran from 1 September 2022 to 30 September 2023 with applicants being considered either for
immediate entry in September 2023 or deferred entry in 2024.

The figures do not include PGDE applicants applying via UCAS; Master of Social Work (MSW) applicants
applying via UCAS, visiting undergraduates, or the very small number of direct entrants, e.g. to Clinical
Medicine.

Please note that all figures refer to applications, not applicants, as one applicant may make more than one
application to the same institution.

Numbers are shown as <5 where disclosing these low numbers could enable individuals to be identified.
This would breach the data protection principles set out in the Data Protection Act 1998. Where these low
numbers link to calculation of the offer rate, the offer rate is not shown.

Notes on specific selection areas

*Art includes the BA (Hons) Fine Art. The MA (Hons) Fine Art applications appear under Fine Art.

**Each year a small number of unsuccessful applicants for Medicine are offered the chance to apply for
Biomedical Sciences instead. These applications appear under Biomedical Sciences instead of Medicine.

***These figures included cover undergraduate applications submitted through UCAS and applications for
Veterinary Medicine that are received via VMCAS (Veterinary Medical College Application Service) and
other Partnerships.
