1. CABLE TRAY INSTALLATION WORK

1.1 PURPOSE
The scope includes the guidelines to be adopted for installation of cable tray at
Construction.

1.2 SCOPE
The scope of this method statement is to carryout Cable tray installation works with cable
tray of appropriate make in the entire scope of work as per Contract Specification.

1.4 MATERIALS / EQUIPMENTS


 Cable Tray (Approved make)
 Base Plate
 GI Angle
 Hand and Power tools

f) Bolts, nuts and washers

1.5 PROCEDURE
1.5.1 Storage
 Approved cable tray and accessories shall be stored in dry & covered area with proper stacking
arrangement.
 Approved cable tray and accessories shall be shifted and unloaded at work place from the store
manually as per requirement.
 Make sure the route taken while shifting the materials is free from obstacles.
 Approved cable tray and accessories shall not be stored under direct sunlight.

 Ensure adequate ventilation and lighting in the shaft to provide a safe working environment.
 Ensure that all required permits for confined space entry and work in restricted areas are
obtained and displayed at the work site.
 Make a note of all personnel entering the shaft and make sure everyone is safe timely.

1.5.2 Material shifting


 Ensure the work area is prepared and safe for the installation before transferring inspected
materials. The transfer of inspected materials should be carried out with adequate manpower.
All necessary safety measures should be implemented during the shifting of the cable tray,
supports.

1.5.3 Fabrication of supports


 Fabrication work for the support will be carried out as per the approved measurement.
 The base plates and the fabricated support will be welded together and fixed at the previously
marked support points.
 It will be ensured that the supports are properly aligned and securely fixed.

1.5.4 Installation of supports


 As per the approved drawings, mark all the cable tray support points using a line doori and blue
powder.
 As per the approved drawing and specification drilling to be done for cable tray supports.
 All cable trays shall be suspended but supported on MS frame work with supports at every 1.5
m distance (for Rod supports every 1.0m distance) including necessary anchor fasteners, insert
plates, slotted channels etc.

1.5.5 Installation of cable trays


 Cable trays shall be hot dip galvanized up to 300 (1.6mm thickness) & more than 300mm up to
750mm (2 mm thickness) more than or equal to 1000mm (2.5 thickness) with necessary painted
G.I structural supports in horizontal or vertical formation.
 If any cut or holes are made in the trays/Ladder/accessories, zinc spray need to be applied over
the surface. Zinc spray shall meet GI coating specifications.
 The metal edge has to be protected by edge protection sleeves to avoid cable damage. Edge of
the supports has to be protected with plastic END caps.
 Further the cable trays will be positioned on the installed supports and secured using nuts and
bolts.
 It will be ensured that the bolt and nuts are properly tightened and cable trays are leveled and
aligned.
 Inspect the installation to ensure it conforms to site specifications.
 Perforated & Ladder cable trays shall be Hot-dip galvanized as specified in the schedule of work
with 70 – 80 microns.

1.5.6 On shaft
 Follow permit-to-work systems for work in confined spaces.
 Clear the shaft area of obstructions.
 Ensure proper lighting and ventilation in the shaft.

 The work in the shaft will be carried out using MS scaffolding built by client. It will be ensured
that the scaffolding will be inspected and tagged by the site competent person.
 Ensure that the shaft structure is stable and secure before beginning work. Confirm that all
necessary shoring and bracing are in place.
 Cable tray support system which in turn supported from floor, ceiling, overhead structures,
trestles, Piperack’s, trenches or other building structures using mounting accessories.

1.5.7 Earthing
 Earth strip to be installed on surface or in recess or in existing laid cable trays with all required
connections, etc., with minimum lap 0f 75mm to 100mm for weld joints.
 Required necessary fixing accessories with required supports for surface/wall mounting.

1.5.8 Housekeeping
 Proper housekeeping will be maintained at all times and any type of waste generated will be
segregated and stored to be disposed off in a proper manner later.

1.6 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS


Shall ensure the following
1) Close supervision during execution of work.
2) Usage of mandatory & job specific PPEs by Site–Engineers, supervisors & workmen.
3) Strict implementation of HIRA.
