FOURTH GRADING PERIOD
I. LESSON OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson pupils are expected to:
- Identify Recyclable Waste Materials.
- Explain importance of 3 R’s (Reduce,reuse,recycling).
- Recycle identified products/ waste materials into functional item.

II. SUBJECT MATTER: RECYCLING WASTE MATERIALS INTO FUNCTIONAL ITEMS
Materials: Pictures, charts, manila papers, cartolina, meta cards, laptop, speaker, cans, glue, art materials,
plastic bottles, scratch papers.

III.PROCEDURE
1. DRILL : “How to Recycle Song”
2. Setting of standards
3. REVIEW: Materials and tools needed in making simple electric gadgets.
Show different pictures of tools and let the pupils identify/name each tool.
1. - screwdriver – used to drive and remove screws.
2. - Wire stripper- used to remove insulation of wires from gauge.
3. - Pliers- used to hold, bend , cut and twist objects and wires.
4. - Electrical tape- used to protect electric wiring from insulation.
5. -Plug – inserted in a socket to make an electrical connection.
6. Cables and wired – materials needed in making electrical connections.
4. MOTIVATION: Show pictures of trashes / waste materials/ garbage/ disposable plates, cups, spoons,
etc. Ask the pupils, “What will happen to these trashes after you throw them away ? “
A. TEACHING/ MODELLING
1. One of the best way to manage trash is to RECYCLE them.
RECYCLING is the conversion of old and used materials into new products. The key component
to proper waste management is recycling. Materials can be recycled are wood glass, metal,
paper, and plastic. Biodegradable waste such as food and garden waste can be recycled
through composting.

Recycling brings about so many benefits like:
1. Helping reduce pollution
2. Helping families save money by reducing expenses for buying new products.
3. Helping conserve and sustain the use of natural resources.

B. GUIDED PRACTICE
Divide the class into 3 groups.
Each group will have a differentiated activity : “Recycled projects.”
The following are examples of recycled projects wherein waste materials can be made into
functional items.
Group 1- Scrap Paper Note Pad
Group 2- Desk Organizer
Group 3- Tin Can Holder/ bamboo coin bank
C. INDEPENDENT PRACTICE
Each student will perform their assigned tasks about recycling different materials .
D. GENERALIZATION:
Why is recycling very important and beneficial to you and your community?
