Executive Summary

Mathematics is a critical subject taught in elementary education that


provides learners with fundamental knowledge and skills to organize their lives
(Ariyanti & Santoso, 2020). Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has worsened
the current education crisis and widened the learning gap in mathematics among
young learners (Sooknanan & Seemungal, 2023). As a result, no one at Umpucan
Elementary School achieves the required minimum proficiency level in
Mathematics 5 in the Regional Diagnostic Assessment, with only a 26.32 mean
percentage score (MPS).

In the same vein, according to the results of the Mathematics


Contextualized Project All Numerates (MCPAN) for the school year 2023-22024,
69% or 27 out of 39 Grade 5 Camia learners did not get the correct answer while
multiplying numbers up to 3-digits by numbers up to 2-digits without or with
regrouping. It is concerning that more than half of the learners’ face difficulty. In
fact, after administering another test on multiplication of numbers, 69% or 27
out of 39 pupils, found themselves having difficulty multiplying numbers.

In this connection, the proposers find it alarming and want to immediately


attend to this concern. This is the reason why the proposers and the school head
pushed to develop the Project D’NUMERO (Develop Numerates Learners through
Utilizing Multiplication Exercises: Reboot Operation), which eventually serves as
a great tool in improving the skills in multiplication of Grade 5 learners in
Umpucan Elementary School.

Project D’NUMERO is an educational intervention that makes use of


different interactive math activities. This project used the objective-based
approach of teaching complex skills leads to fragmentation. Learners start with
the simplest tasks and end with tasks at the level of complexity. As a result,
learners overcome their fear of math and feel included in classrooms where they
felt lost for too long, which can increase learner engagement and success rates.

Furthermore, Project D'NUMERO will be an 8-week intervention program


that includes three treatments in which learners will work alone (Multiplication
Maze), in pairs (Practice Board Game), and in groups (Ladder Board Games). The
activities in this project will motivate the pupils simply because as they play,
their brains also work. It will be an interactive activity method which pupils really
enjoy.

After the said implementation, all data are gathered and statistically
analyzed. Such presentation of result is statistically presented and supported

with evidence, cited theoretical and conceptual references and other significant
findings and result of different literary studies as proof of its significant impact to
the mathematical skills of 39 UES Grade 5 learners in this project.

Finally, Project D'NUMERO aims to provide a solid academic foundation as


well as practical learning opportunities. It aims to boost long-term learning by
allowing learners to pace and track their own development. The proposers
facilitate and provide fundamental information about multiplication so that the
learners can most likely learn from the materials and activities, but the outcome
is based on the learners' own efforts.

General Objective
 The general goal is to improve the numeracy skills of Grade 5 Camia
learners in Umpucan Elementary School by addressing learners’
mastery in multiplying numbers up to 3-digit numbers by up to 2-digit
numbers without or with regrouping.

Specific Objective
These are the specific SMART objectives that must be achieved within the
project timeframe presented.
 Seventy-five percent or 23 out of 30 learners of Grade 5 Camia master
the skills in multiplying numbers up to 3-digit numbers by up to 2-digit
numbers without or with regrouping.
 To engage learners and develop their interest in multiplication through
individual, pair and group activities.
 To boost their confidence in facing mathematical problems involving
multiplication.

Description of the Innovation


Project D’NUMERO (Develop Numerates Learners through Utilizing
Multiplication Exercises: Reboot Operation) is an educational intervention that
makes use of different interactive math activities.

In this project, spiral progression was used, in which learners revisited


previous lessons and complexity level increased as the interventions are
explored more. Learners start with the simplest tasks and end with tasks at the
level of complexity. As a result, learners overcome their fear of math and feel
included in classrooms where they felt lost for too long, which can increase
learner engagement and success rates.

Moreover, this project shall be an 8-week intervention program. The


activities in this study will motivate the pupils simply because as they play, their
brains also work. It will be an interactive activity method which pupils really
enjoy.

The innovation project has three (3) proposed interventions:


 Multiplication Maze

These multiplication mazes give the learners fun and differentiate activity
while allowing for quick and painless grading. Learners must find a path in
this multiplication maze. Start at the entrance and solve the multiplication
problem then go to the path of the correct answer and so on. If you do this
correctly, you will finish the activity.

 Multiplication Practice Board Game

This game is great for at-home learning, homework, math stations and
centers, or even indoor recess. It gives learners the chance to practice their
multiplication facts in a fun way. But best of all, it doesn't take a teacher's
guidance or help to play. The learners play in pairs, where they roll dice and
work out the multiplication they land on. The winner is the first to finish.

 Ladder Board Game

This intervention is a board game/activity in which learners play in group and


use dice. The dice will be thrown and the number of dice that come out will
be the number of steps that they will solve and jump until they reach the
finish end word. It is adapted from Snake and Ladder Board Games. It is also
a manipulative game/activity that will arouse their interest to learn and
participate. Recreation is important to children, the reason why the Innovate
Team decides to create a game related to Board Games in Grade 5 may enjoy
and may learn at the same time.

Table 1 shows the individual performance of learners in weekly


activities. The data show that the learner's scores improve from pretest to
posttest after receiving the interventions. As a result, Project D' Numero can be
characterized as a successful innovation.

Table 2 shows the result of pretest and posttest. According to the data
presented, 12 learners or 31% of Grade 5 passed the pretest, which increased to
33 learners or 85% in the posttest, with a mean percentage score (mps) of
85.26. Project D' Numero can be described as a successful innovation.

The interest level of learners in maze, practice board game, and Ladder
Board Game is displayed in this graph. The data shown indicates that of the
three teaching strategies utilized in Project D’NUMERO, ladder board game had
the highest mean (2.87), followed by practice board game (2.77), and maze
(2.46). This also indicates that Grade 5 learners had a high level of interest in the
three teaching strategies used in this project.

board game, and ladder board game. According to the data presented,
satisfaction levels for all three teaching strategies are high. Ladder board game
had the highest mean (2.90), followed by practice board game (2.85), and maze
(2.44). The data demonstrates the efficacy of the intervention used in this
project.

boost their confidence. On the other hand, only 3 learners need assistance in
multiplying numbers. This evidence shows that Project D’ NUMERO has a
favorable effect on learners’ confidence.
