WASHING AGENTS VALIDATED BY CEDRE FOR IN SITU USE ON CASUAL OIL SPILL
PRODUCTS
Products tested for emulsifying power, cleaning power, toxicity and biodegradability
according the NF T 90-348, NF T 90-364, NF T 90-349, NF T 90-346 norms.
The cleaning products to use on oil pollutions are selected according to their philosophy of use; the discharge recovery or not after the cleaning
operation.
There are 2 types of cleaning products:
non emulsifying cleaning products which only contribute to unstick pollutant from its support without dispersing it afterwards to
recover it easily (by using a skimming process with sorbent added),
emulsifying cleaning products which, beyond the cleaning operation itself, contribute to disperse pollutant in the water column at
the bottom of the rock or the place to clean, with a view to facilitate its elimination or degradation by the environment (for ecological
reasons, each use of that kind of product must take into account the impact of dispersed hydrocarbons in the considered
environment).

Assessment of the product’s biodegradability is performed only concerning emulsifying products
This procedure of approval is carried out without prejudice to the procedures prescribed under the French law n°77-771 of 12 July
1977, as amended by French Law n°82-905 of 21 October 1982 relating to the control of chemicals and its implementary provision.
If the data provided by Cedre, valid for a three year period, is not updated by the manufacturer or retailer, Cedre cannot guarantee
that the product is still available for purchase or that it still presents the same characteristics as the sample tested.
