REFLECTION LOG
1. What areas did I focus on this first term? How did that go?

This first term, I focused on student engagement. I’ve been

thinking about different skills and techniques to engage students and
create more enthusiastic discussions in class. As a first-year student, I
have to admit that this has been a challenge for me because I’m not
naturally the most creative or full of ideas. However, this is the path I’ve
chosen, so I know I need to keep pushing myself and improving in order
to become a better future educator.

2. What were my strengths and weaknesses this term? What

did I do well?

One of my weaknesses this term has been my shyness. I often

feel nervous every time the professor holds the index card because I’m
scared I might be called on and answer the question wrong. It’s a
challenge for me to speak up in class, and this nervousness makes it
hard for me to engage fully. However, my strength is that I’ve been
actively fighting my fears of speaking in front of everyone. Although I
still struggle with speaking up, I’m slowly overcoming my anxiety and
becoming more confident. I’m proud that I’ve been pushing myself to
participate more, even if it’s difficult. It’s a step in the right direction,
and I know I’ll improve with practice. This term, I’ve learned that it’s
okay to make mistakes, and that’s part of the process of growing and
learning as an educator.

3. What is the most important thing I learned throughout this

first term?

One of the most important things I learned in my first term in

Facilitating Learner-Centered Teaching, is the difference between
teacher-centered and learner-centered approaches. As a future
educator, I now understand that students have different ways of
learning, so it’s important to use various strategies to keep them
engaged. Instead of just being the center of attention, teachers should
create an environment where students actively participate and think
critically. Learning isn’t just about memorizing facts it’s about
understanding and applying knowledge in real life. By using creative and
interactive teaching methods, teachers can make lessons more
meaningful, helping students develop independence and a love for
learning.
