B. Concurrent Requirements
(1) Engines may be converted in isolation using this Service Bulletin
(Modification), but when installed into a propulsion system the following
Service Bulletins (Modifications) must be fitted concurrently:
Printed in Great Britain
78-F165 )
78-F167 )see 1.K., References.
71-F169 )
(2) Throughout this Service Bulletin, where reference is made to the
embodiment of a Service Bulletin (Modification), any concurrent
requirements within that Service Bulletin must be complied with.
C. Reason
(1) Problem and Evidence
There may be a requirement to convert an engine from one mark number to
another, in order to facilitate their use in propulsion systems, which are
configured at different ratings in the Trent 700 series. The requirement
may arise as a result of an operator need or the need to convert lease
engine equipment. Furthermore, equipment built to a common Bill of
Material (BOM) may need to be converted to suit installation into
different propulsion systems.
(2) Substantiation
The changes introduced by this Service Bulletin are concerned solely with
the change of rating, converting a propulsion system from one mark number
to another. All conversions are to existing certificated mark number
configurations.
(3) Objective
Incorporation of this Service Bulletin (Modification) is designed to
permit conversion of an existing propulsion system from one mark number to
another.

(e) Interchangeability
Affected (see 1.B., Concurrent Requirements and 1.M.,
Interchangeability of Parts)
D. Description
(1) This Service Bulletin details the changes necessary to effect conversion
of RB211 propulsion systems TRENT772B-60, TRENT772B-60/15 and
TRENT772B-60/16 to TRENT772C-60, TRENT772C-60/15 and TRENT772C-60/16
respectively.
Conversion is divided into four parts as detailed below; all parts must be
completed.
Part A
Establishes the basic engine configuration standard.
Part B
Establishes the customer option slash (/) number configuration standard.
Part C
Identifies any testing which may be required.
Part D
Changes the engine identification.
Part A1
The following Rolls-Royce RB211 Service Bulletins (Modifications) contain
essential minimum certification features of the RB211 TRENT772C-60,
TRENT772C-60/15 and TRENT772C-60/16 engines. A record of accomplishment is
required in the engine log book

Part A2
The following Rolls-Royce RB211 Service Bulletins (Modifications) are
essential minimum certificated features of RB211 TRENT772C-60,
TRENT772C-60/15 and TRENT772C-60/16 engines and must be embodied. When
engines are converted to TRENT772C-60, TRENT772C-60/15 and TRENT772C-60/16
rating, a record of accomplishment is not required in the engine log book
and the record can be removed if already present.
Modules 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 08 and the Core Engine incorporate these
Service Bulletins (Modifications) as basic features of RB211 TRENT772C-60,
TRENT772C-60/15 and TRENT772C-60/16 engines and new module mark numbers
are required in accordance with Service Bulletin 72-F038.
Module 01
There is no Service Bulletin for the following modification and a record
of accomplishment will not be present in the module/engine logbook;
however, current new engine build and overhaul procedures are in
accordance with modification 70-C319. Evidence of accomplishment is
determined by checking fan blade tip clearances are within limits in
accordance with Engine Manual, 72-31-11, Installation, Task

Part C
Following conversion of an engine from one rating to another in accordance
with this Service Bulletin, it is a mandatory requirement to establish
whether the engine has been test certificated to the proposed new rating.
Establish by reference to the engine data slip plate if the engine has
been test certificated to the new rating. If it has not, it is necessary
to certificate at this new rating to complete the conversion.
Part D1
Reprogramme the EEC data entry plug to the new engine rating; refer to 3.,
Accomplishment Instructions
A new, blank engine data entry slip plate to SB72-C662 standard (see 1.K.,
References) is required.
The engine data entry slip plate contains information on the current
engine configuration, and includes rows for 4 possible entries.
