BOOK
+ an Open-Ended Coloring Game
and Comprehension Worksheet
Assembly You will need: lamination, velcro, and something to
bind the book with (rings are recommended).
Assembly: Print pages 4-12 in color, one sided. Cut out book pages. The last page of the book has a symbol holder
attached, don’t cut his part off [slide 10]. Laminate all of the book pages. Cut out flaps [slides 11 & 12] and
laminate. Line up the flaps in the middle of the page (see photo) and staple on the top or side(white tab). You can
also use clear tape on both sids of the flap (I like using tape better). If the direction says “under” tape/stable on
the top. If the direction says “behind” tape/stable on the left side. Cut out the picture symbols [on slides 9] and
laminate. Cut out carrot nose on slide 10 and laminate. Attach scratchy velcro to the squares on the symbol holder
and the blank squares on the book pages. You will also put scratchy velcro on the middle of the page on slide 9
(page 10 of the actual book) and to Mr. Frost’s face on slide 10 (page 11 of the actual book). The student will take
the carrot nose off of page 10 and put in on Mr. Frost’s face at the end of the book. Attach soft velcro to the
back of the picture symbols and carrot nose. Store the picture symbols on the symbol holder page. Make sure you
put the carrot nose behind the ice skates flap before starting the book. Bind the book on the left side with rings
(see picture for placement).

How to Use
Read the book to the student. At the top of each page, the student is asked if Mr. Frost’s carrot nose is
under various objects. The student is then prompted to lift the flap and look. They will then answer yes/no
(verbally or by pointing to the symbol). The student then will match the picture symbols to the box in the
phrase and verbalize the phrase (“I found a _____”). Tapping the boxes as they say it (model when
appropriate) encourages verbalization!
Comprehension page: Use a bingo dotter, marker, or crayon to color the answers to the questions.
Color-A-Snowman Dice Game: Roll the dice and color the part of the picture by the number you rolled!
Keep rolling until the whole picture is colored.
