Volkswagen rolls out big family car

KATHMANDU, FEB 20 -

Theres good news for those looking for a big family car. Pooja International, the sole authorised distributor of Volkswagen of Germany, has introduced Touran, a multi-utility vehicle (MUV) in the Nepali market. The company has rolled out the entry level variant of the popular machine, the VW Touran Trendline. However, the cars formal unveiling is yet to be announced.

According to the company, the VW Touran Trendline produces a lot of power for the size of its engine and also delivers excellent fuel consumption. The newly introduced vehicle is equipped with a 1.4 l TSI, four-cylinder petrol engine which has a maximum power output of 103 kW at 140 bhp.

This is amazing performance. Once cannot find a similar power output in cars of the same engine displacement in other brands,

said Neeraj Shrestha, deputy sales manager at Pooja International. In fact, this is the only petrol car equipped with a TSI engine available in the Nepali market. He added that the TSI engine had strengthened the overall performance of the car.

The vehicle, according to the company, is ideal for big families and for use in the hospitality sector and is expected to take over the Toyota Avenza and Kia Carens. As far as the price factor is concerned, there is no competitor for this vehicle in Nepal as its price is a little on the higher side, Shrestha said. However,

this new car boasts a number of superior features making it more suitable than other MUVs available in the domestic market.

The new car from VW will be imported from Germany and will be available in 12 colour options. The company is confident about the machines performance as the brand has become successful in making its mark in the Nepali market.

When VW was launched in Nepal in 2010, we were more focused on making people aware of the brand. People used to think that VW manufactures only Beetles (Bhyagute car), Shrestha said. But now, VW is one of the well-known names in the Nepali auto market. Likewise, the quality of VW machines has made it easier for us to market any model from VWs stable.

Also, the durability and robust built of VW machines, according to the company, has made them popular among domestic automobile aficionados and also added value for customers of automobiles from the premium category. More than 70 percent of the vehicles we have sold so far costs more than Rs 5 million each. And this is all because of the incredible features and superior performance, Shrestha said.

The new machine from VW is available in two seating optionsfive-seater and seven-seater. While the former variant has been priced at Rs 5.29 million, the latter will cost Rs 300,000 to Rs 400,000 more.
