The study aims to assess the effectiveness of a structured teaching program on menstrual hygiene knowledge among adolescent girls in Daraganj, Prayagraj. It highlights the critical need for improved awareness due to prevailing myths and inadequate access to sanitary products, particularly in rural areas. The research employs a quasi-experimental design with a quantitative approach to evaluate knowledge changes pre- and post-intervention.

OBJECTIVES
1- To assess the pretest knowledge regarding
menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls.
2- To assess the post test knowledge of
adolescent girls after the structure teaching
program.
3- To compare the pre test and post test
knowledge score.
4- To find out the association between
knowledge score and selected demographic
variable.
NEED AND JUSTIFICATION OF STUDY
Menstrual hygiene is a critical component of
adolescents health yet it remains a neglected
subject in many parts of India due to
prevailing myths , taboos and lack of
awareness.
In Uttar Pradesh a significant portion of
adolescents girls are using sanitary napkins
with 64.5% using them,49.3% using clothes
and 15.2% using locally produced napkins.
The use of sanitary napkins has increased,
particularly among girls in urban areas.
However substantial disparities exist with
only 42% of adolescent girls in rural areas
using hygienic method exclusively.
Education , wealth and access to media
influence the choice of hygienic methods ,
with those who are more educated and from
richer households more likely use sanitary
pads.
Morever the UNICEF 2021 report states that
menstrual hygiene is directly linked to school
attendance.
About 23 % Indian girls drop out of school upon
reaching puberty due to shame and lack of
sanitary products and inadequate sanitation
facilities.

HYPOTHESIS
H0 ( Null Hypothesis)- There is no
significant change in the knowledge scores
regarding menstrual hygiene among
adolescents girls after the structured
teaching program.
H1 (Research hypothesis)- There is
significant change in the knowledge score
regarding menstrual hygiene among
adolescents girls after the structured
teaching program.

RESEARCH APPROACH
Quantitative Research( because the study
aims to measure the effectiveness of an
intervention (structured teaching program)
on knowledge levels , it fits well into a
quantitative framework where data can be
collected, measured and statistically
analyzed.
RESEARCH DESIGN
-Quasi -experimental
