General Information
Introduction
The purpose of this section is to provide you with an easy way to identify the various screens in the Windows®
terminal programs supplied by Hiab. Without these programs it is not possible to communicate with the electronic
control systems now tted to the HIAB cranes. Users of the DOS based programs and terminals must refer to the
earlier documentation supplied by Hiab on these subjects.

It must always be remembered that these programs are not intelligent. This means that if incorrect information is
entered such as a wrong parameter value, the program will make the changes to the SPACE program, as long as
the value is within parameter limits setting values. Always refer to the relevant information to ensure the correct
information is entered to avoid confusion.

As the terminal programs have been developed by Hiab many of the parameters that in the past had to be
individually set can be automatically adjusted now just by lling the required information in one screen menu.
Lists of the parameters adjusted in this way are shown with the menu illustration.

Always ensure you are using the latest terminal programs available, changes to the terminal program are often
made to meet the demands of new software in the SPACE boxes. Older version terminal programs may not
even be able to communicate with a system depending on the type of changes, so always update. New terminal
programs are distributed by the Service department in Hudiksvall to the service responsible for each country as
soon as they become available.

Control systems in Hudiksvall continue to support all versions of the currently available terminal programs, it
should however be noted, that the Windows® based programs produced by Hiab, will no longer function on
computers using the Windows 95 operating systems. Users of this system must either upgrade their operating
system to Windows 98 or higher or use the DOS version terminal program.

Hiab recommends the use of laptop computers, as the programs grow in size and the need to save les from
SPACE boxes increases the storage capacity of the handheld computers can be prohibitive.

The following Windows® based programs are available from Hiab:

SPACE Win For use with both standard SPACE and SPACE 5000 systems
TPW594 Win Must be used when a temporary password is required to access
SPACE boxes with the program version 5.94
VType Win Use for setting parameters in the RadioDrive box only

All of the above programs are also available in CE format for the Windows CE based handheld computers
approved for use by Hiab.

Terminal Interface Units

Hiab supplies two types of interface units for connecting computer terminals to SPACE systems.

Part no.365 0766

This unit can connect to both handheld Jornada and Desk/laptop computers. The cable kit supplied has both the
serial connection plug and the special plug for connection to the Jornada handheld. Please note that although
similar in external appearance the connector for Jornada computers will not connect to USB ports. Any attempt to
force the plug into a USB connection will result in damage to the plug or socket in the computer. Owners of later
model laptops may nd that there is no serial plug connection on their computers. In such cases a serial to USB
adaptor is required, these are not supplied by Hiab but can be purchased at most computer hardware stores and
must be sourced locally.

A full set of terminal program software is included with this interface.

Part no. 370 9214

This interface is for use with the RadioDrive system where it necessary to connect directly to the RadioDrive
box.

This interface must always be used with:

• OS versions.
• BOSS systems with RadioDrive.

May need to be used if problems connecting are experienced:

• When a PSBI box with a serial number between 0000 and 1035 is used.
• When the SPACE program version is lower than 6.32

Users of Win VType 1.03 and VType CE 1.14 programs will not have to use this interface for these problems as
these programs can recognize RadioDrive under these conditions.

Software is not supplied with this interface because it is connected to interface 365 0766 when in use so you will
already have the appropriate program.

Terminal Program Information

Installation
DOS
Just copy the les to your program card ( Hp95/200 users) or to a folder on your PC. If you are going to use DOS
programs on a PC you must start the programs using the included shortcut ”Hiab terminal”.

PC Windows
In the folder ”Hiab Terminal Programs\PC\Windows”, a le named ”Installation Instructions.doc” will give you
instructions on how to install the Windows programs.

Handheld PC
In the folder ”Hiab Terminal Programs\Handheld PC”, a le named ”Installation Instructions.doc” will give you
instructions on how to install the Windows programs.
Please do also read the le ”Using HPC.doc”. This document will tell you how to overcome some problems with
the programs and also how to use battery power, which is very important.

Installation Of Hiab Windows Terminal Programs

What Is Needed?
· A PC with Windows 98 or later, with CD ROM drive.
· Note; Windows 95 is no longer supported, The SPACE and VType programs will not install or run under Windows
95
· Before installing the new PC programs, the old version should be uninstalled rst.
· The installation procedure listed below is generic for all programs.
· The program ”S3000 Win” must be installed rst, as this program also loads several shared les that have to be
in place before loading the other programs.

Uninstalling
You will need uninstall the ve programs: ”Mini Win”, ”S3000 Win”, ”Space Win”, ”Tpw954 Win” and ”VType
Win”

Select Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add & Remove Programs. Select each program in turn and uninstall.

For Installation to a PC
This instruction assumes that the program to install is Space Win. Use the same procedure for the other terminal
programs.

1. Insert the CD labeled ”Terminal Programs” into your PC.

2. Select folder ”PC” on the CD.
3. Select folder ”Windows” on the CD.
4. Then select folder ”Space Win”.
5. Double click on the le named Space Win Installer.msi. Follow the instructions on the screen.
6. Don’t change the default installation directory. This will make it easier to update the program.
7. Space Win is now installed on your PC.
8. Repeat steps 1 to 8 for the next program to install.

Installing In The Handheld PC

A PC with Windows 95 or later is needed to put the terminal programs in the Handheld PC (H/PC). Establish
contact between the PC and the H/PC, refer to the H/PC manufacturers instructions, then follow the instructions
regarding the installation of the HIAB terminal programs (BL2275a).

Battery Power
The Handheld PC does not get any power whatsoever from the Space system, so it needs to have fully charged
batteries at all time.
The Handhelds have a feature that turns off the power after between 1–5 minutes when on battery power. The
battery of a HP 690 lasts for 7-8 hours of continous use. If the battery is fully charged when starting a job the
battery power should not be a problem.

Charge the battery for the Handheld PC at all times when it is not used, because if the battery is drained all
installed information is lost on the Handheld PC, and the terminal programs must be reinstalled.

Time Bug
Currently there is a bug in Windows CE that returns wrong year when asked for in the programs.

Symptom:
S3000 CE.exe will not start due to an illegal year. Wrong year in the le headers from les saved using the HIAB
terminal programs.

Solution:
Chose a city within USA when selecting Home City, this cures the time problem.

Memory Cards
HIAB will not sell memory cards for Handheld PC systems. This is because the programs come on a CD ROM.

Updating The Terminal Programs

Update of the Handheld PC terminal programs will use e-mail where possible and CD ROM otherwise for
distribution.

SPACE Win (V.1.21)

General
This is a description of the features of
the terminal program SPACE Win. This
description can also be used for the terminal
program SPACE CE, which is for Windows
CE computers.

The title of each menu is the buttons that

must be pressed to get to that menu, starting
from the Main Menu. For example “Init Type”,
the user has to rst press “Init” and then
“Type”.This can also be seen at the head of
the program. Like “Space Win – HIAB-Init
Type” seen below.

The program works with:

• SPACE (version 4.0 or higher)
• SPACE 5000

For simplicity both SPACE and SPACE 5000

will be referred to as SPACE boxes in this
description.

The program can be used on any Windows

version known to date (XP is the latest when
this is written), except Windows 95.

Login
This is the rst menu (g.2-1) seen when
starting the terminal program. If the screen
looks like the picture above, then the program
cannot communicate with the SPACE box.
The problem can be either:
• The SPACE box has no power.
• The PC-Interface is not connected to the
SPACE box.
• The COM port selected is not the COM port
that has the PC-Interface connected.

The program will remember the last COM
port setting, so it is only necessary to select
the COM port once (the rst time the program
is used). You must refer to your computers
operating system instructions for detailed
information on setting of COM ports.

When contact has been made with a Space

box, the menu will look like this (g. 2-2).

Enter the SPACE user name and password.

The password entered will give a certain
access level.
Access Levels:
• Service: For service personnel.
• Diagnostic: For installers and the service
responsible in each country.
• Factory: Factory personnel.

It is also possible to enter without any
password. To do this just press OK and leave
the user name and the password blank. The
access level will be called No Access.

Main Menu (No Access)

Fig. 2-3 shows the main menu at No Access
level. This menu will be displayed when no
user name or password is entered and the OK
button is pressed in the Login menu.

Main Menu (Diagnostic)
The main menu (g.2-4) entered with access

Description of the information in the upper
part of the display:
1. Date and time from the SPACE box.
2. The program version of the SPACE box.
3. The program serial number of the SPACE
box.
4. The system type that is set in the SPACE
box.
5. Crane serial number.

6. Crane type, parameter: crane_info.
7. A PLC program is loaded in the SPACE
box.
8. The Display level. This can be changed
when the program is running.
9. The Access level of the terminal user. This
is determined by the password entered at
Login.

prototype purposes.

Init Remote
With this window (g.2-12) you tell SPACE
which remote lever is used for each
function.
This menu automatically sets the parameter
rem_chan. Version v1.20. All levers are
counted from 1 instead of 0. “Group”
renamed to “Menu”.

Init Stop Legs
For cranes with remote controlled support
legs. Information entered in this window
(g.2-13) will stop the remote lever operation
when the inner boom pressure is above the
pressure given in “Stop Load” (In this screen
40). The main use for this function is to
prevent an operator raising the support legs
with a load on the crane.
“Positive” means positive direction of the
lever. To set the negative direction, click
“Negative”.
The parameters stop_legs_load, stop_
legs_n and stop_legs_p are set from this Fig.2-13. Init StopLegs.

Init Rem Gain
In this window (g.2-14) you tell SPACE if
the DA modules have been strapped to a
lower maximum spool stroke. For SPACE
5000 the only valid values are 80 or 100.
SPACE can use all values in the menu.
This window can be used for both SPACE
and SPACE 5000, but it is recommended
to use the parameter func_k for SPACE
5000 instead, because it has been found to
give greater accuracy with this system. The Fig.2-14. Init RemGain.
parameter rem_gain will be set.

Init Crane Cong

The data entered in this window (g.2-
15) has no effect on the operation of the
crane. The data held here is for use with
the C-SPACE program, and allows better
evaluation of the cranes behaviour. Data
should be entered here by the cranes
installer. If no information has been entered
a reminder window may appear when you Fig.2.15. Init CraneCong.
try to enter the Init Main window, pressing
the OK button in this window will allow you
to continue, if you do not wish to enter data
at the time.
The parameter crane_cong will be set.
This parameter should only be set from this
menu.

Init Type
Sets parameters that are specic for the
selected crane type. The settings come
from the le crane.dat, which is a coded
le located in the terminal program. You
must make a selection in each frame in this
window (g.2-16a), If you do not the Select
button will remain greyed out and you will Fig.2.16a. Init Type
not be able to proceed.
Note that jib type can be selected too. There
is a possibility to only set parameters for the
jib.

The warning message shown (g.2-16b)

when entering Init-Type if a crane type is
already set.

Init Type Jib Only.

The dialogue box (g.2-17) is shown when jib
is selected in the Init Type menu. Select “Jib
Only” if the crane was bought without jib and
has retrotted a jib, or the jib type has been
changed.

Init Time
Sets the date and time in the SPACE box
(g.2-18). This should only be set once in the
production of the SPACE boxes. The time set
here is displayed in the SPACE Clock frame
of the main menu. If the year is incorrectly
set you will not be able enter the SPACE
system with the terminal. If this occurs enter
SPACE at a No Access level, note the year
being displayed in the Main Menu and obtain
a password for that year to enter SPACE and
set the correct time with this window. Fig.2-18. Init Time.

Init Default
This window (g.2-19) allows you to set all
parameters to their default value. All previous
parameter settings will be lost. You are
strongly advised not to use this option. If
you choose to use this option you must carry
out a full initiation of the crane.

Init Levers
This is the window (g.2-20a) used for
calibration of the levers. Correct calibration
of the levers is vital to the correct operation
of the SPACE system. The levers shown
on the screen are not levers but functions.
The functions that exist on this crane will be
shown. This window is a translation of the
variable lever. The program will use variable
anin to check how many spool sensors are
connected.

“Calibrate”.

Init Levers Calibrate
To calibrate the levers press the button
“Calibrate” in the Init Levers window and
the calibrate window (g.2-21) will open.
Follow the on screen instructions. Always
ensure that you move the levers to their
furthest point of travel when carrying out this
procedure. When the calibration is nished
the Init levers window will re-open, check
that the lever movement corresponds to the
movements shown in the window. Fig.2-21. Init Levers Calibrate.
The following parameters will be set:
Lev_ad_chan, lev_offs, lev_p_range, lev_
n_range.

Init Levers Manual Setup

This menu can be used to manually set
lev_ad_chan. To see which channel each
lever has, the right side of the menu can be
viewed. Move a lever on the crane to see
which anin value that changes. This menu
should only be used if the program fails to
select the correct crane functions to calibrate
in “Init Levers Calibrate”. Version v1.20.
Removed button “Automatic Setting”.

Use this menu in this way:
1. First try to calibrate in Init Levers by
pressing “Calibrate”. If that doesn’t work…
2. set lev_ad_chan in this menu and
3. press “Set and Calibrate”. This will set
lev_ad_chan and then the calibration starts.

Note: If the crane has:

1. Jib. Then Jib and Tool 1 should use the
same lever channel. Jib Ext and Tool 2
should use the same lever channel.
2. Winch. Winch and Tool 1 should use the
same lever channel.

Init Auto
Init Auto. (g.2-22) An easier way of setting
the following parameters: No need to try

adjustments, simply enter the data in this
window and the parameters shown below are
set accordingly.

• Win_pos, win_box_type
• Ib_p_lim_corr, ob_p_lim_corr

The menu frames displayed depend upon the

system type stored in the SPACE box.
• WIN. Show Winch position.
• JIB. Show Jib In and Jib Out.
• PFD. Show Pump ow.

Init Auto (no WIN/PFD)

The Init Auto menu window (g.2-23), when
the system type does not include either one
of WIN, JIB or PFD.

Version v1.20. Settings of jib pressure

removed. PFD setting is made easier, and
sets parameter pump_ow_sel_chan. No
channels numbers need to be given, instead
do only select the connection plinth from the
combo boxes.
Pressure settings for IB and OB are made Fig.2.23. Init Auto.
with spin buttons (just like S3000 Win). Can
only increase pressure by max 3% regardless
of Space version . “Common” pressure
channels will still show ob pressure instead
of showing the same ib pressure for both ib
and ob. Can set analogue winch.

Init Slew Sectors
Use this window (g.2-24) to enter Slew
Sector requirements. The channels are
automatically set to default values when you
make the Sector type selection. Capacity is
shown only when the Sector Type is Olp.
The menu will not show Slew sectors 2 or 3
if they have their channels set to –1.
The following parameters are set by the
terminal:
• Stab_sect_type Fig.2.24. Init SlewSector.
• Stab_d_p_chan, stab_d_n_chan
• Stab_olp.

Version v1.20. Removed radio buttons when

selecting sector type. No channels numbers
need to be given, instead do only select the
connection plinth from the combo boxes.
Version v1.21. Support slew sectors STND2
and SUPP_LR.

Init Relays
Use this window (g.2-25) to set the relay
parameters. These are the parameters that
start with “mask_” in the Digital Output
section of the parameter list. It is important
to remember that only the relay boxes
controlled by SPACE can be set from this
menu. Take care to select the box that
corresponds to the jumper position you
have set in the relay box (See components
section of this manual for jumper setting
information). Check the blink box if you Fig.2.25. Init Relays.
require, for example, a lamp to switch on/off
whilst activated.

Note.
The different production units within the Hiab
organization use different default settings
for common components, for example lamp
poles. So, when adding additional relay
boxes always check the jumper positions
in any existing relay boxes to establish their
position in a system. This means that just
because there is only one relay box on a
crane, it does not mean that it has been set
as relay box one in SPACE.

Parameters
Individual parameters can be set in this window
(g.2-26). This view shows the Diagnostic
level, note, that the PLC button is shown, this
is not displayed in the Service display. Select
parameter class rst and then the parameter.

change the system type using this parameter,
it will only change the system type until the
next power off of the system.
To change the system type permanently, you
must use this menu. You can use the check
boxes in the left of the window ,or, if you know
the new system number enter that directly
into the New System Type box at the bottom
of the window. To be able to change the
System Type a password must be obtained

PLC program with the le extension “.prc”.
The le is coded in such a way that it can

1. Winch indicators. Provides information
on the current state of the winch mounted

• l = load indicator

2. Displays the signals being sent from SPACE

to the DA modules.

Errors
Errors from the SPACE box are updated every
2 seconds and displayed in this window (g.2-
34). Most errors are automatically cleared
when the error condition no longer exists.
Some errors however need to be manually
cleared, use the button “Clear Errors” for
that purpose. If the error does not clear after
pressing this button, the reason for the error
still exists.

Errors CAN Log
This window (g.2-37) only exists in SPACE
5000 system. All the components on the
CAN bus which can store and display a log
are shown here. Note that this menu is not
automatically updated; the refresh button
must be pressed to update the log. The Clear
CAN Log button will clear all previous errors
in the CAN log. The following information is 1 2 3 4
displayed:
1.The name of the component in abbreviated Fig.2-37. Errors CAN LOg.
form.
2. The serial no. of the component.
3. Control information.
a) DA2 the group (menu) and lever that
the DA module is controlled by.
b) PDB if the dump 2 has been set to be
activated by a particular group (menu) this is

Using the File window (g.2-38) three types
of les can be saved:

• Sav-le: Only the parameters are saved

to a coded le. Use this option if you have
limited le storage SPACE, for example,
removable storage cards.

• Sat-le: Text le with parameters, counters

and error counters. This option allows you Fig.2-38. File.
view and print out the information. Use
Windows Notepad or Wordpad to view the
le after you have saved it.

• Sac-le: Everything that can be saved from

a SPACE box, saved to a coded le. Can be
viewed with the program C-SPACE. Always
try to use this option when saving a le to
install in another SPACE box.

Two type of les can be loaded from the

“Load” button: Fig.2-39. File (No Access).
• Sav-le
• Sac-le

To load Counters, Diary, Load Collectives

and PLC program from a sac-le, a special
password must be given when asked for. This
can be used if the SPACE box is replaced on
a crane, then the complete working history
of the crane can be transferred to the new
box. Using the sav-le only the parameters
will be loaded and all history is lost.

It is also possible to save les from SPACE

using the No Access window (g.2-39). Only
two types of les can be saved:
• Sat-le
• Sac-le

The sat-le saved here is not same sat-le

as seen in g.2.38, because this sat-le only
saves Counters, Diary, Diary Error Counters
and Error Counters.

Version v1.20 File Load. If a sac le is to be

loaded and all counters and load collectives
are loaded, all parameters are now loaded.
Parameters with higher access than Factory
were not loaded before.
File Save As Code. Saves the entire PLC
program, stopped at the rst STOP command
before.
