HOMEWORK 23
I. Writing unit 8
1. The hotter the object or air, the temperature the higher. The colder the object or
air, the temperature the lower.
2. The temperature is measured by thermometer and has unit of degree Celcius
(symbol oC). There are many thermometer like mercury thermometer, digital
thermometer, infrared thermometer,...
3. When two objects have the different temperature touch each other, heat is
transferred from the hotter object to the colder object.
4. Energy is necessary for all the activities of humans, animals, and machines.
5. Some of the common energy sources are used in the life like food, wood, coal,
oil, sun, wind, flowing water, electricity,…
6. In the electric circuit, the power source provides energy that helps the light bulb
shines, the wire connects the components of electric circuit together and gives the
electric current pass through, the switch uses to open – close the electric circuit.
7. The electrical conductor is the objects that give the electric current pass through.
8. The solar energy, wind energy, hydropower are the source of clean energy and
can replace by the source of fuel energy.
II. Listening 8.2
Part A
1. T 6. F
2. F 7. T
3. F 8. F
4. T 9. T
5. F 10. F
Part B
1. Every year, the world uses 35 billion barrels of oil. This massive scale of fossil
fuel dependence pollutes the Earth and it won’t last forever. We’ll run out of oil
and gas in 50 years and in about a century for coal.
2. The renewable energy are sun, water, and wind that we won’t use them up over
time. Renewable energy still only provides about 13% of our needs.
3. The conditions for renewable energy to cover 100% of our energy needs are
people need to build a system to capture energy more efficiently.
4. Solar plants must be located in areas with lots of sunshine year around, a line
connected electrical energy network with power lines crisscrossing the globe
would enable us to transport power from where it’s generated to where it’s needed.
5. Storing renewable energy costs a lot of money. Power lines lose about 6-8% of
the energy they carry due to resistance in the wire material. Connecting electrical
energy network is also difficult about the location and availability.
6. Because scientists would be to find efficient ways to convert solar into chemical
energy. Many governments and businesses are investing in technologies that
harness the energy all around us.
III. Science questions
Question 1.
We choose A
Because the boiling point of water is 1000C or 2120F.
Question 2.
We choose B
Because we often use high and low when we talk about the temperature. So we can
say Heat is always transferred from a high temperature to a low temperature.
Question 3.
We choose C
We base on the definite of four choices to choose the right answer.
Question 4.
We choose C
Because two objects transfer heat each other until they are balance, so we choose C
is the end result.
Question 5.
We choose B
As we learn that glass can not conduct electricity, it is an electrical insulator.
Question 6.
We choose A
Because electric lose energy due to resistance in the wire material. For example,
the fan runs in a long time, it becomes hot when we touch.
Question 7.
We choose C
As we learn, the electric in a circuit flows continuously.
Question 8.
We choose C
As you know, the battery contains electric energy that helps to light the circuit.
Question 9.
We choose D
It is easy to know that when we switch the bulb, the electric transfer to light that
makes the lamp shine.
Question 10.
We choose D
Because they are all the reasons that make a circuit fail to work.
Question 11.
We choose D
Because they are energies that produce electricity.
Question 12.
We choose A
Because the Sun provides enough energy to meet Earth’s current needs almost
10,000 times over.
Question 13.
We choose B
Because they are finite sources and non-renewable, the Earth takes millions of
years to form them.
Question 14.
We choose C
Because they are infinite sources and renewable, it is available in nature and takes
short time to renew.
Question 15.
We choose B
Because it is produced by the power of water to convert to electricity.
