Title: Biology Notes

Chapter 1: Introduction to Biology - Biology: The study of life and living organisms. - Characteristics of
living things: Organization, metabolism, homeostasis, growth, reproduction, response to stimuli,
adaptation. - Branches: Botany (plants), Zoology (animals), Microbiology (microorganisms).

Chapter 2: Cell - The Basic Unit of Life - Cell Theory: All living things are made of cells; the cell is the basic
unit of life; all cells come from pre-existing cells. - Types of cells: Prokaryotic (no nucleus) & Eukaryotic
(with nucleus). - Cell organelles: Nucleus, mitochondria, ribosomes, endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi
apparatus, lysosomes, chloroplasts (plant cells).

Chapter 3: Genetics - DNA: Deoxyribonucleic acid, carries genetic information. - Genes: Segments of
DNA responsible for traits. - Mendel's Laws: Law of Segregation, Law of Independent Assortment. -
Dominant and recessive traits.

Chapter 4: Human Body Systems - Digestive System: Breaks down food into nutrients. - Circulatory
System: Transports blood, oxygen, and nutrients. - Respiratory System: Exchange of gases (O2 and
CO2). - Nervous System: Controls body functions via electrical signals. - Excretory System: Removes
waste from the body.

Chapter 5: Ecology - Ecosystem: Interaction between living and non-living components. - Food chain and
food web. - Energy flow and trophic levels. - Biotic vs Abiotic components. - Biodiversity and
conservation.

Chapter 6: Evolution - Natural selection (Darwin). - Adaptation and survival. - Speciation and genetic
variation.

Chapter 7: Health and Disease - Pathogens: Bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites. - Immunity: Body's
defense mechanism. - Vaccines and antibiotics. - Communicable vs non-communicable diseases.

End of Notes.
