FOR YOU (MAIN APPLICANT - STUDENT):

You are applying for a Study Permit (student visa).

Forms to complete:

- IMM 1294 - Application for Study Permit Made Outside Canada

- Family Information Form (IMM 5645) - You list your family members.

- Document checklist form (IMM 5483)

Documents to submit:

- Passport (valid for at least the duration of your stay)

- Letter of acceptance from your Canadian school or university

- Scholarship award letter

- Proof of funds (scholarship letter + any other funds you have if needed)

- Passport-size photos (meeting Canadian specs)

- Police clearance certificate (if applicable)

- Upfront medical exam (if required - depends on your country or how long you'll stay)

- Marriage certificate (to prove relationship with your wife)

- Visa processing fee payment receipt

FOR YOUR WIFE (ACCOMPANYING SPOUSE):

She is applying as your accompanying spouse, with the option to get an Open Work Permit or Visitor Visa.

Forms to complete:

- IMM 5710 - Application to Change Conditions, Extend Stay or Remain in Canada as a Worker (if requesting

open work permit) OR

- IMM 5257 - Application for Temporary Resident Visa (Visitor visa) (if requesting only to visit)

Both options also need:

- Family Information Form (IMM 5645)

- Document checklist form (IMM 5556) (if applying as worker)


Documents to submit:

- Passport

- Marriage certificate

- Passport-size photos

- Police clearance certificate (if applicable)

- Upfront medical exam (if applicable)

- Visa processing fee payment receipt

TIPS:

- You can both apply online through the IRCC portal, in the same application package.

- Be sure your marriage certificate is clear and translated to English or French if not already.

- Write a cover letter explaining you are traveling as a family - you are the scholarship recipient and your wife

is accompanying you.
