What is Flash?

• Flash is an animation and multimedia delivery


platform.
• – Developed/sold by Adobe Corporation
• – Content can be delivered via the web, played in a
Flash player or in web browser.
• – Applications include animations, presentations,
video player, interactive applications, games, …

• CS Department has licenses for Flash CS3 in the labs.
• – new version available is Flash CS5
• – 30-day free trial license available CS3, CS4, CS5 are
fundamentally similar.
• – We can set CS5’s workspace view to “Classic””
• Adobe Flash player is a multimedia platform used to
add animation , video and interactivity.
• It is a powerful authoring tool but like any tool some
things are best solved with Flash.
• It is used in advertising & online games and it is
increasingly common .
Adobe Flash Player importance

• Adobe Flash player is a browser independent , It has


no issues with cross browser compatibility , When
the Flash player plugin is installed on your computer ,
You will be able to view Flash content with no issues .
• Adobe Flash player can be used to replace text
elements on HTML Web pages with Flash equivalents ,
It supports the audio , the animation , the advanced
video handling and interactivity , It is a vector-
based but it allows incorporation of bitmaps where
needed .
• Flash applications can collect the data , the online
games , the feedback forms , the photo slide show ,
audio , the movies , the charts, the shopping carts and
different web applications that the server-side scripts
can do , Flash technology makes it possible to make
your Website more interactive and expressive .
• Flash is a vector based and hence a lightweight option
for animation with smaller file size , you can express
something to a visitor in a more efficient and
attractive way with Flash .
• Using of Adobe Flash in advertising is very popular , It
displays the text and the graphics to provide the
animations , It allows streaming of both audio and
video clips , The creative companies are turning
to Flash technology for flashier websites .
Advantages
• The program doesn’t hold back the creativity.
• It is very easy to import assets, with a large range of
file types you can use.
• It is simple to use with easy controls.
• The code snippets mean a high order of programming
skills are not needed. Someone with a very basic
understanding of coding can easy find the right
snippet for them instead of writing themselves.
Disadvantages

• Mainly only 2D animation with very limited 3D


animation capabilities.
• The layout can be confusing, making it hard to
insert a tool bar if it is accidentally closed down.
• The timeline because when you are building up a
lot of layers, its hard to see where the scenes are.

• The load up time can be very slow as it is demanding
on the computer.
• Mobile phones can’t run any flash animations except
for a few blackberry phones.
• The flash player needs to be constantly updates to the
newest version.
• Website with flash animations perform slower that
websites without them
