BLOCKWORK INSPECTION & ACCEPTANCE – PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERING SUMMARY
1. Scope of Work:
Blockwork includes the supply and installation of solid or hollow concrete blocks for internal and
external walls, in accordance with approved shop drawings and specifications.
2. Materials Check:
• Block Type & Size: Verify block dimensions, density, and compressive strength as per
approved material submittals.
• Mortar Mix: Check mortar ratio (typically 1:4 cement:sand or as specified).
• Damp Proof Course (DPC): Confirm DPC is placed at plinth level before starting wall
construction.
• Curing: Ensure blocks and mortar are properly cured (minimum 7 days).
3. Execution Inspection:
• Plumb & Alignment: Use plumb bob and spirit level to ensure verticality and alignment of
walls.
• Leveling: Verify level courses at every 1 meter of height.
• Joint Thickness: Ensure horizontal and vertical joints are uniform (10 mm ± 2 mm).
• Staggering of Joints: Check proper bond pattern (stretcher bond).
• Reinforcement:
o Check for vertical and horizontal reinforcement where required (e.g., seismic areas
or high walls).
o Confirm presence of lintels over openings.
• Openings & Embedded Items:
o Verify dimensions and positions of windows, doors, MEP sleeves, and conduits.
o Ensure electrical boxes are fixed in place prior to plastering.
• Cleaning: Surfaces should be clean and free of mortar droppings.
4. Tests & Inspections:
• Compressive Strength Test (ASTM C140 or BS EN 772-1): At least 3 samples per batch.
• Density Test: For lightweight blocks.
• Dimension Tolerance Check: Measured randomly from delivered blocks.
• Absorption Test: To verify water absorption rate.
• Site Visual Inspection: Daily inspection during execution.
5. Tolerances:
• Vertical alignment: ±10 mm in 3 meters height.
• Wall thickness variation: ±5 mm.
• Opening dimensions: ±5 mm.
6. Documentation:
• Inspection Request (IR): Submitted for each wall segment.
• Material Approval: Attach supplier certificates & test results.
• Site Reports: Maintain daily progress records and QA/QC logs.
7. Final Acceptance Criteria:
• Work matches approved drawings and specifications.
• No visible cracks, loose joints, or excessive gaps.
• All embedded items in correct locations.
• Surface ready for plastering.
