Policy of BCI
A BCI (Better Cotton Initiative) SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) in SIM
Fabrics Ltd. involves implementing practices that ensure the responsible
sourcing and production of cotton, aligning with BCI's principles for
sustainable agriculture. These procedures cover various aspects of cotton
processing, from receiving and handling cotton to producing yarn, with a focus
on traceability and adherence to BCI's standards

1. Receiving and Handling yarn of BCI Cotton:

 Verification:
SIM Fabrics Ltd. must verify that the yarn received is indeed sourced as
Better Cotton yarn, often through documentation like Better Cotton Claim
Units (BCCUs) or Output Declaration Forms (ODFs).
 Segregation:
BCI cotton yarn should be segregated from non-BCI cotton yarn throughout the entire
process to ensure traceability.
 Storage:
Proper storage procedures are essential to maintain the quality of the yarn and
prevent contamination.

2. BCI Fabrics Production:

 Traceability System:
BCI utilizes a traceability system to track the flow of Better Cotton from the farm to the
final product. This system uses conversion rates to allocate the correct number of
BCCUs to different yarn types and other products made with BCI cotton.
 Chain of Custody:
Fabrics mills must adhere to BCI's Chain of Custody rules, which outline how BCI
cotton yarn can be used in production and how BCCUs should be reported.
 Output Declaration:
When BCI cotton yarn is processed into fabric, an Output Declaration is issued by the
spinner and fabrics , which is an important document for traceability and claims.

3. Quality Control and Assurance:

 Physical and Chemical Testing:
BCI SOPs often include procedures for physical and chemical testing of the Fabrics to
ensure it meets the required quality standards and specifications.
 Monitoring and Reporting:
Regular monitoring of production processes and reporting of key performance
indicators (KPIs) are crucial for maintaining quality and identifying areas for
improvement.

4. Waste Management:
 Minimizing Waste:
BCI encourages minimizing waste generation during the Fabrics process and
exploring ways to utilize or recycle waste materials.
 Proper Disposal:
If waste cannot be recycled, it should be disposed of responsibly according to local
regulations.

5. Continuous Improvement:
 Training and Awareness:
Providing training to workers on BCI principles and procedures is essential for
successful implementation.
 Regular Audits:
Regular audits by BCI or third-party auditors help ensure that the Fabrics mill is
complying with BCI standards.
By implementing these procedures, Fabrics mills can contribute to a more
sustainable and responsible cotton supply chain, meeting the growing
demand for ethically sourced textiles
