Current important International Events
(1) India –US Civil Nuclear Co-operation Agreement
Also known as 123 agreement, it allows India to access nuclear
fuel, technology and reactors for peaceful purposes even though
India is not a signatory to the NPT
(2) Indonesia Joined BRICS
On 9-1-2025 Indonesia has officially joined the BRICS Group as the
10th member. BRICS stands for the Original members Brazil,
Russia, India and Chine, with South Africa joining in 2010.
(3) Siang Upper Multipurpose Project
It is located in the Upper Siang District, Arunachal Pradesh near
the Siang River (a major tributary of the Brahmaputra River)
(4) 1st Asian Buddhist Summit
On 7-11-2024, the first Asian Buddhist Summit was organised by
India’s Ministry of Culture and the International Buddhist
Confederation (IBC) in New Delhi.

(5) Kartarpur Corridor Agreement Renewed
India and Pakistan have extended the Kartarpur Corridor
agreement until 2029 ensuring Visa-free movement of Indian
Pilgrims to the Kartarpur Sahib Gurudwara in Pakistan.
(6) 13TH Major Port of Galathea Bay
The Mega International Container Transhipment Port (ICTP) at
Galathea Bay, located on Great Nicobar Island in the Bay of
Bengal has been officially designated as the 13th Major Port in
India.
(7) International Workshop on Urban Land Records
On 22-10-2024, the Ministry of Rural Development organised the
International Workshop on the use of ‘Modern technologies in
Survey – Resurvey for Urban Land Records.
(8) Digitising Land Records
India is committed to digitising Land Records under the Digital
India Land Records Modernisation Programme (DILRMP)

(9) A Pilot program named NAKSHA
National Geospatial Knowledge – based Land Survey of Urban
Habitations (NAKSHA) was introduced to create Urban Land
Records in over 100 cities/towns.
(10) Presidential Visit to Malawi and Mauritania
On 21-10-2024 India’s President Visited Malawi and Mauritania.
This is the first ever visit by an Indian President.
(11) India – UAE Investment Relations
On 9-10-2024, India and UAE signed Bilateral Investment Treaty
(BIT)
(12) India and Uzbekistan signed BIT
On 3-10-2024 India and Uzbekistan signed a BIT to assure
appropriate protection for investors from both countries.
(13) Electricity Supply to Neighbouring Countries
On 29-8-2024, the Ministry of Power has modified guidelines for
the import/export (cross-border) of Electricity, 2018.
(14) China’s Major Gas field discovery in the South Chine Sea
China has announced the discovery of the Lingshui 36-1 gas field
in the South China Sea, marking it as the world’s first large Ultra-
shallow gas field in Ultra-deep Waters

(15) Fast Tracking BIMSTEC Free Trade Agreement
At the BIMSTEC Business Summit in New Delhi, Indian Minister of
Commerce & Industry called for faster negotiations of the
BIMSTEC Free Trade Agreement (FTA) (Bay of Bengal Initiative for
Multi Sectoral Technical and Economic Co-operation)
(16) India – US Cultural Property Agreement
On 1-8-2024 India and the US signed the first-ever Cultural
property Agreement (CPA) to combat the illegal trafficking of
Cultural Artefacts and ensure return of antiquarian objects to their
place of origin.
(17) India - Malaysia Agricultural Ties
On 20-7-2024 India and Malaysia have decided to deepen their
bilateral co-operation in agriculture, with a particular emphasis on
Oil Palm cultivation and the integration of digital technology.
(18) 132nd Session of IMO
132nd Session of the Council of the International Maritime
Organization (IMO) was organized in London. India is an elected
member of IMO Council attended the session.
