STATE OF KARNATAKA VS ARJUN SHARMA

PROSECUTION

SAMEER’S DIARY IN NOVEMBER-

November 1st

So happy to get a break today from the usual routine. My parents and I went out for a family meal at lunch
and went for a movie at the mall in the evening. While it was fun, there are those work-related thoughts
that are still lingering in the background of my mind that I wish would be easy to ignore. I am beginning
to see that it is hard to find a balance between work and life, and I begin to worry about how I will be able
to cope with this kind of life in the years to come.

November 3rd

I am in a sticky situation, which is all because of a choice I made months back. This I believe has been the
source of many troubles in my life and even now I cannot help being anxious. The burden of all this
operating under such a decision, I must say, is very difficult to bear at times. I know very well that the
decision I make today will influence my future social and career life. I recognize that this issue is
complicated and that it requires attention, but the timeline for action is becoming narrower and narrower
over time.

November 6th

An ethical dilemma hit me very hard today. I agreed to help Arjun with his business a while ago. But as
the time passes, my doubts about the project have grown stronger. The idea of backing down from this
promise is petrifying, especially considering Arjun’s recent mood swings. He has become more and more
aggressive towards not only me but also towards Rahul and Moksh. It is alarming. Because of this, I am
also trying to figure out the ethics of my exit, how to salvage my reputation without ignoring the possible
consequences of that decision. I am not sure where to go from there, and I know that I have to think very
carefully about what I will do next.

November 8th

There is a tempest of thoughts in me. Am I in the wise way in thinking about walking away from this
investment? The ethics of what I might do torments me. And as if all this were not enough, I’ve started to
get a lot of messages concerning the business from Arjun and other unfamiliar names. This situation has
only made me more worried about the issue. Are these messages really some kind of subtle intimidation?
I’m not sure where the professional persistence ends and where harassment begins, and this makes it even
tougher.
November 11th

Finally, today I gathered all my guts and faced Arjun with the news that I am leaving the business. His
response was terrifying, to say the least. He assaulted me, placed his hands around my neck and
threatened me concerning our ‘secret.’ This was unprofessional but also bordered on crossing the law. Let
it be clear that I did not intend to harm anyone and disclose proprietary information; all I wanted was to
get away from a situation which no longer sat right with me. I expected a wrathful response from Arjun,
but the level of violent behaviour he exhibited was really out of the ordinary. This event has made me
unstable and made me rethink the dynamics of our working relations.

November 13th

I find myself unable to gauge the situation due to the complex series of events that have occurred within
the last two weeks. It all started on an average Tuesday afternoon and ended in what can only be termed
an exceptionally intense two hours with Arjun. This situation has indeed gone far beyond what I imagined
it would. His insistence that he be put in charge of all profits is pure greed and selfishness on a level that
truly disturbs me. And more troubling, he’s insisted that we come to his office at 7 PM tonight ‘to talk
about things.’ This request is suspiciously vague at best, and given his hostility of late, it worries me. I
cannot help but wonder what this ‘talk’ entails and what he seeks that raises my flags.
