Aim: Introduction Virtualization Environment configuration and Cyber Lab

setup (Kali, VM ware and Oracle VirtualBox).

Introduction to kali
• Kali Linux is an OS for Network Security, Digital Forensics, Penetration testing, or Ethical
Hacking named Kali Linux.
• Kali Linux is a Debian-derived Linux distribution that is maintained by Offensive Security.
It was developed by Mati Aharoni and Devon Kearns.
• Kali Linux is a specially designed OS for those who work under the umbrella of
cybersecurity and analysis. The official website of Kali Linux is Kali.org4/Intel64
virtualization tool.
• The guest operating system is provided with a virtual set of hardware to use.
• Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Solaris hosts and supports a
large number of guest operating systems.

Introduction to Oracle Virtual Box

• VirtualBox is open-source software for virtualizing the x86 computing architecture. It acts
as a hypervisor, creating a VM (virtual machine) where the user can run another OS
(operating system).
• The operating system where VirtualBox runs is called the "host" OS. The operating system
running in the VM is called the "guest" OS. VirtualBox supports Windows, Linux, or
macOS as its host OS. When configuring a virtual machine, the user can specify how many
CPU cores, and how much RAM and disk space should be devoted to the VM.
• When the VM is running, it can be "paused." System execution is frozen at that moment in
time, and the user can resume using it later.

Installing Virtual Box

Step 1 :- Directly download virtual box from following link or follow step 2:-
https://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/7.0.6/VirtualBox-7.0.6-155176-Win.exe

Step 2: Go to https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads to download virtual machine

Step 3:
Run the installer.

Step 4: Click on next button.

Step 5: Click on next button.

Step 6: Click yes.

Step 7: Click yes.

Step 8: Click on install and wait until the installation is finished.

Step 9: Click finish. Now the virtual box is opened.

After setup, the virtual box will look like this.

Installing Kali Linux in Virtual Machine

Step 1. Go to Kali’s official website, https://www.kali.org/ .

Step 2: Click on https://www.kali.org/get-kali/#kali-platforms (image similar to image in green

box)

Step 3: One can choose any version, 64-bit or 32-bit.

Step 4: Select any one of the three options.

Step 5: Click on download sign to download the torrent file or open below link
https://cdimage.kali.org/kali-2022.4/kali-linux-2022.4-virtualbox-amd64.7z

Step 7: A compressed file will be downloaded.

Step 8: Extract it using WinZip or WinRAR.

Step 9: Two files will be visible in extracted folder.

Step 10: Open the file with blue box icon which will open the virtual machine
file.

Step 11: Click on Start button and it will start your Linux Os.

Step 21 :- Login by Username = “ kali “ & Password = “ kali “ All in small letters
.

Setting up of Kali Linux in virtual box is completed.

Setting up of windows xp:

1. Open vm and tap on new.

2. Select windows xp professional.

3. Click on select folder.

5. Allocate file size and location and click on create.

7. Type username and organization’s name.

8. Create and confirm password.

10. Select not right now and click next.

WINDOWS WILL GET FULFILLED.
14. Right click on windows and select clone.

14. Provide name for the clone and click next.

15. Choose full clone option and click on Clone.

16. The VM box will look something like this after successfully downloading Kali
linux,windows xp and windows xp clone.
