QUIZ 1 – ENS 02

1. A block weighing 200 N rests on a plane inclined upward to the right at a slope of 4 vertical
to 3 horizontal. The block is connected by a cable initially parallel to the plane passing through
a pulley which is connected to another block weighing 100 N moving vertically. The coefficient
of kinetic friction between the 200 N block and the inclined plane is 0.10. Find the tension on
the string and the acceleration of the system. (20 pts)

2. A wooden block slides from rest on a 30 degree inclined plane with a weight w. The
coefficient of friction between the block and the plane is 0.20. (a) find the acceleration of the
block in m/s2 (b) how far will the block travel in 3 sec. (c) time to
travel a distance of 30 m. (15 pts)

3. A 0.075-kg toy airplane is tied to the ceiling with a string. When

the airplane’s motor is started, it moves with a constant speed of
1.21 m/s in a horizontal circle of radius 0.44 m. Find the angle the
string makes and the tension in the string. (20 pts)

4. a box is pushed with a force P, upward along an inclined board

that makes an angle of 18° with the horizontal. When P=400 N, the
box is on the verge of sliding upward. The box weighs 60 kg. What is
the coefficient of friction between the box and the inclined board and the frictional force? ( 15
pts)
